Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaYou very much get what you pay for, 'bare bones' doesn't even begin to cover it. Despite being close to nice parts of Toronto, the place itself is on a pretty rough block and the interior is not nice either - smelled vaguely of heavy-duty cleaner layered on top of urine.
Price is very good - significantly cheaper than other hotels in the area. I'll also note a bunch of reviews mentioned scams, which was not my experience: they put a $200 deposit on my card, but it was refunded within a day of checking out. Given that it's a very cheap hostel, they charge for things nicer places would not (e.g., leaving towels in the shared bathroom), but I was very careful to leave the room in exactly the state I got it, and got my full deposit back.

CanadaDidn't like the area or how tiny and I stress tiny the room was. I felt unsafe once outside building. My husband went for a cigarette and was chased by a prostitute and we had homeless harrasing us for money. I felt safe inside the building and again staff were great. TV didn't work and wifi was hit and miss.
Staff were friendly and helpful.

FranceThe studios. if I ever was to go back, best take a room with shared facilites on 2nd floor. More conviviale and nearer to roof top terrace. Our room was in the basement, at night a spotlight from the next door shelter for homeless people shine directly into our window which gave us the impression to be in broad daylight, even with the curtains drawn. No possibility of opening the window. By the way, the "hôtel " rents out rooms for "25$ for 25 minutes" as advertised outside the hotel in an electric sign. 😮😉😎 🤣

MexicoWe didn’t feel comfortable with the person at the front desk, we were all woman and he was always asking where we’re going and if he could come. Also the accommodation used my credit card without my permission until I saw my bank’s statement a day after checking out, I called them to ask why they charged me and they said that the people I went with didn’t have money to pay $25 per hour to look after their luggage (total was 4 hours) so they thought it was cool if they charged it to my card. Won’t go back again.

SpainThe room was outdated with appliances not working and a faucet that half disassemble when using it and had to try many times to manage to close it. It was in the middle of the summer and the prices in general in the zone were expensive, but for the room we got we believe it was too expensive.
It's near the centre of Toronto, and the personal was friendly. We took a room with a double bed that had proper size. It was a good place to stay.

It was just a place to sleep and shower and it was walking distance to where I needed to go but nothing that special I felt

CanadaI believe it will be better and better if guests can take a shower easily here. I would suggest to update the bathroom if it's possible.
This is a convenient option if you choose to stay in Troronto Downtown. There is cooking stuff in the kitchen, and you can also take a short walk to the nearby restaurant. I think it's a nice place to enjoy Tronto Downtown with a lower cost.

CanadaI think the ad should better set expectations on what to anticipate. It was a shared bathroom with an entire floor of rooms. There was no hairdryer, shampoo or toiletries - it should be more clear that you need to bring everything. You can’t call to venue to ask questions after booking, email was the only option. I tried to call to enquire another storing my bags and if there was parking but the response time was too slow to plan for. When you call you can only speak to an operator if it’s a new booking. Eventually I got someone on the phone and they gave me a phone number to try the specific location but they gave too many digits and couldn’t figure out the right number. I would have been less disappointed if I knew in advance that I needed to bring more things with me to be properly prepared for my stay.
Front desk staff was nice. It was quiet and the other guests I ran into were friendly. Cameras everywhere so that adds a safety factor/feeling despite being in a shared spared. For the price, Accommodations reflected it
