Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaThe hostel was unattended when we arrived at check-in time due to a miscommunication with the owner. However, we eventually established contact with him and he made a special effort to welcome us a short time later. The beds and bedding were comfortable; shared kitchen and bathroom facilities were good; location very convenient. Would be happy to return.

SwitzerlandNo breakfast, we had to bring our own. Shared kitchen, not sure how much we could use it for.
Nice room, with enough space around the beds. It was very quiet. The bathroom was shared, but we were the only ones at that time. The kitchen was also shared with restaurant staff, wich made me not so sure about using it. The hotel is on a main street so very easy to find and to go from.

United KingdomNitpicking: furniture is a bit dated. The only light in the room was a bedside lamp.
Great location, very friendly owner and staff in the restaurant. Room + bathroom was clean. Good facilities including kitchen. Convenient restaurant above hostel and perfect for visiting Algonquin on a budget!

CanadaThe lighting in our room was not really good enough for reading, and the extremely poor lighting in the TV/lounging room makes it pretty much unusable for anything other than TV, which leaves the kitchen as the only place light enough to read. A fellow lodger was noisy in the wee hours of one night, but quieted down when we asked him to.
Superb jump-off location for visiting Algonquin Park; very friendly and helpful owner, Steve, whose amazing wildlife photos adorn the walls of both the hostel and the restaurant; congenial fellow guests; good value for money; comfortable beds and well-stocked kitchen.

CanadaI liked the location close to Algonquin park and the convenience of having a shared kitchen, but it looks like the cleaning of the shared areas, bathroom and kitchen, was not done every day as I was expecting. There is room for improvement.
The location is perfect for visiting Algonquin Park.

CanadaThe restaurant was only open for one day during our stay. It's unfortunate that the effects of COVID are still so apparent. Looking for a place to eat supper was difficult at times but the simplicity of the area was refreshing and a full kitchen made it easy to make your own meals.
Steve is such a great host! He was very accommodating and friendly. He made sure we were comfortable and made our stay truly enjoyable.

United KingdomThe room didn't have any windows and we misunderstood the bathroom was shared, so it could be made clearer on the listing. The kitchen is a bit old but functional and you have to wash and dry anything you use. Drinking is not allowed outside of the restaurant (Canadian laws) as the restaurant does not have a permit, so you can't have a drink by the river. The restaurant closes very early (perhaps because of not many visitors) so pack up some food if you're planning to arrive there late.
We rented one of the rooms below the restaurant for 2 nights and I am very pleased with the owner, since our flight was cancelled we could only stay one night and he didn't make us pay for the night we did not use, he is friendly and respectful and takes stunning photos and beautiful art (you an buy his pictures upstairs). The room was warm, comfortable and clean with a shared fully equipped kitchen if you want to cook yourself. The bathroom is also shared but was clean and very well kept. The outside view is gorgeous. with tables and barbecue area, right next to the river. Very close to the park so a great location for day hiking and exploring. Plenty of parking and the owner offers free passes to the park which was very appreciated since it's 17 CA$ per day.

CanadaTo have a drop box for the keys in case the restaurant above is closed, and nobody is around to check you out. :D
As it was cool and damp from the weather, the room came equipped with an electric space heater, that kept the room very comfortable. It came with a fully functioning shared kitchen and a reading room with a TV, chair and sofa. Also, the view was good with the running beside the property. Outside was a picnic table and a BBQ. It is not the Holiday Inn, but for the price it was excellent to bring the family and friends.

United StatesThere were just a few minor things that could have made our amazing stay just a little bit better even. In the evening, the room can be a little noisy. With the restaurant upstairs, there are a lot of people walking and moving around, and much of it can be heard in the room. In addition, the walls are a little thin, and we could quite clearly hear our neighbor in the room next door talking on the phone one evening. However, most of this was resolved by the fact that the restaurant closes at eight, so by the time we were really settling in and trying to fall asleep, everything was perfectly quiet! The one other small thing was the bathroom. We were fully aware coming into the weekend that it was a shared bathroom, and it was by no means dirty. It is just something to consider if you are a clean person and want your own space. We were fortunate that the other guest staying at the hostel was very clean, so we personally had no issues.
Our stay at The Mad Musher was amazing! I cannot recommend it enough. My wife and I are amateur nature photographers, and upon arrival, we found out that Steve, the owner, was also a nature photographer. We had so much to talk about, and Steve gave us some great tips on where to find wildlife in the park. He even paid for our park pass one of the days we were there! The entire staff at The Mad Musher was great, and the room was even better than hoped. There was more than enough space, it was very warm and cozy, and it was clean. The location of The Mad Musher is amazing. It is just a few minutes outside of the Algonquin Park East Gate entrance, and it is very close to many of the winter wildlife hotspots. In addition, the upstairs restaurant was wonderful! We had dinner there on Saturday night, and it was a delicious, all-you-can-eat taco bar. The price was great, and as long as it is available when we are looking to book, I can confidently say we will always be staying at The Mad Musher! Thank you for an amazing stay!

CanadaDespite making the booking more than 8 weeks ahead of time and even messaging the property on booking.com and confirming that they had our booking, the property gave our room to someone else and claimed they didn't have a room available when we showed up. We had to find last minute rooms on a busy long weekend and ended up getting single night reservations at a higher price in two different hotels
