Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

CanadaThe room is a bit old looking, and the location is far from the city center without much going on around it. It worked fine for our 1 night stay.
The family running the place are very nice and attentive. We got picked up at almost 1AM without a problem.

Falkland Islands (Malvinas)It's quite simple, if you want amazing facilities and an on suite bathroom this is not the location for you. Everything is basic but you get what you pay for.
The owners were amazing! Friendly and fixed every problem. They can't be praised enough. Not only did we get to stay we were given Christmas dinner and santa visited and gave presents for or kids. Everyone was welcoming and friendly.

United KingdomI didn't have a bed (due to them being double booked) and was asked to sleep in their car as an option. Instead they managed to sort out a mattress on the floor, and offered a free nights stay plus I payed for 3 out of the four nights, so was all ok in the end.
Cecilia and her husband were wonderful hosts. I felt very at home here. The hostel had a lot of character and really loved the friendly vibe around the place. Hopefully I can return soon!

Czech RepublicBathroom and room was really dirty. And the room was without window so the air was really bad (in my country it isnt possible have room for sleeping without window). You cant go outside after 11pm because you don't have keys.

ItalyIt seems like that even if I booked through booking, they didn't expected me, I was put in an up grade room ( which it was fine), the toilet are not in the best shape. Biggest problem I had is that you don't have the key of the gate, for 2 consecutive nights I came back home "late" ( before midnight) and I had to wait more than half hour glued to the doorbell before a guest let me in, if the guest would be there I wondered how long how would have stayed out..
The owner is an amazing woman that will welcome you in her house as part of the family. The location is far from the centre, but the subway/metro is very close and you could visit Santiago without a problem

IrelandCons: the Hostal is cheap for Santiago prices however not compared to the rest of Chile. For this you get a very basic accommodation, not overly tidy or clean. The male bath room is separate to the female for some reason and is actually located outside. If you wish to use the bathroom in the night it's very chilly. We were offered to pick a time for breakfast, however recieved this an hour and a half after the agreed time. This affected our pre-arranged plans for the day. We are tourists and are exempt from IVA tax of 19%, however the host didn't understand and instead charged us her booking.com comission instead of the IVA tax once we provided our PDI showing we are exempt. This is the only accommodation in Chile we have had this issue, I think it may be lack of understanding of the local tax law on the behalf of the host rather than intentional. I think the discrepancy in rating maybe be due to the host asking if we can kindly rate the hostel above 8 on check out, or not leave a review if it is going to be be negative. This likely skews the rating dramatically. I have given it a 6 and feel that is fair, don't be fooled by the 9 plus rating as we were
I rarely give detailed or negative reviews but I feel this one is required. The rating for this hostel is not reflective of the accommodation. All previous 8 or 9 rated hostels we have stayed at have been of a certain standard, this did not meet that. This place should be in the 6 ratings in our opinion (passable for 1 night). The positives are, the host is very nice and the family are kind and accomodating. We were even able to check in early in the morning and were given metro cards to use free of charge. The shower is hot and the bed is comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped and large, however is cluttered and disorganized.

AustraliaCecilia was hard to communicate with. Very confusing communication regarding payment. Thin walls, could hear snoring and children crying throughout the night. Men’s shower did not have hot water working. Family offered to drive us to the airport in the morning, with no mention of pay. In the car they tried to overcharge us more than an Uber price.
Comfy and soft bed. Felt very safe and secure with good house security. Huge TV with Netflix in the room. The kitchen had filtered tap water and lots of supplies. Cecilia, the host, was generous when explaining the use of the facilities.

I haven’t seen such hospitality by a host ever before. They were all so kind and helpful! The location is like 5 minutes walking time from the metro so you’re in the city centre in like 15 minutes. And the neighbourhood is very calm
