Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesWe had a wonderful stay at Hostal Solor! Our room was very comfortable and had everything we needed. The breakfast was delicious! The location was on a quiet dead end street which was great for us parking our rental car (never had any issues finding a spot), but still easily walkable into the main part of town.

GermanyThe WiFi in the rooms was a bit spotty sometimes, but that is to be expected in the middle of the desert.
The rooms are very clean and hospitable, the bed was incredibly comfortable. The best thing however is the personnel, they are incredibly helpful and friendly.

United StatesI enjoyed my stay at Hostal Solar and would certainly recommend them if you have reasonable expectations (it is not and does not pretend to be (or charge like) a 5* hotel). They offer clean, comfortable rooms with good wifi and the staff is very helpful. They even fixed my broken eye glasses! The bathroom and shower were fine and the breakfast solid- more or less typical of Chile. The neighborhood and rooms are quiet which I do not believe is always the case nearer the centre. They are a very good value in San Pedro where rooms can be expensive. The Hostal is about a 15 minute walk to the centre. I rented a bike for much of my time in San Pedro and that made the journey to the centre pretty quick, though I also walked on a number of occasions. Most tours pick you up at your hotel anyway. If you want a good 2-3* Hotel/Hostal in a quiet location which is a good value with a helpful staff and don't mind a 15 walk to restaurants, etc., then you will be happy at Solar.

United KingdomNot necessarily about the property itself but we did book a taxi through them to the airport and it didn’t show up for two hours (or at all!?) so we had to pay around double what we initially were offered to get there with half an hour until take off!! I would recommend booking a shuttle or verified taxi way in advance.
The room was clean and comfortable. It had a fan as it got very warm. There was a concert in the town the night we stayed but it was quiet for the most part!

IrelandAbsolutely nothing to complain, the stay was perfect!
I cannot recommend this place enough! The owners are two sweethearts and do everything to make you comfortable, including a splendid breakfast with everything fresh made specially for you. They’re always available to give you information and for a chat. Location is super nice, only a few minutes away from the main street - also cool because all the tours would pick you up in the property and drop you off after. The room have marvellous bed sheets and all. Also the room have enough space for two and the bathroom is super clean, towels and everything else are provided. On top of everything the place is quiet and nice for you to chill at night after a day of activities.

SpainIt’s a bit far from the center, but this is also good as it was very peaceful and quiet at night.
Everything! We arrived late at night and there was nothing open, and the host offered us to make some sandwiches where they offered breakfast. They also leave stuff for breakfast out the night before in case you have a tour starting early so you can help yourself. The room was great and warm, the second night was a bit hot and the next day the host had left a fan for us in the room, without us requesting it. They also offered filtered water for free so you can fill in your bottle. I really recommend this place, for all the facilities and for their amazing and thoughtful hosts :)

GermanyThere is nothing I can complain about.
This Hostal is just amazing. Liz and Javier are excellent hosts. The place is located around 10min walk from the main street. You can park the car in the yard, but it's on a earliest guests first basis. So, you might need to wait a few days for the spot. The rooms are simple, but clean. There is no air condition, but a fan in every room. The breakfast ist very basic and it's self service, meaning you need to get the things you like to eat from the fridge yourself. Some cheese and ham is provided. Between 8:00 and 10:00 you can also get scrambled eggs (from their own chickens) and excellent coffee made by Liz or Javier. There is also a fridge where you can store your own things. And, don't miss to try one off Javier's own beers. They're amazing and Javier grows almost all of the ingredients himself. Javier speaks very good English. Liz only Spanish. I totally recommend this place.

United KingdomA comfortable, clean and quiet accommodation run by friendly and attentive hosts (Javier and Liz). It’s got a comfortable bed and a good shower. The breakfast is very good, and even on days when you have to leave really early on tours, there’s some breakfast still available to help yourself and the hosts would always make sure there’s hot water for tea/coffee ready. We did our laundry with Liz’s help (at an additional charge) which was quite helpful. Javier brews his own beer and will be potentially selling it commercially in the near future, he offered us a taster on a couple of occasions which was really nice of him, and the beer was excellent. The accommodation is a little away from the town centre but that didn’t bother us - makes it a quiet place, also has a few grocery stores nearby and a few small local restaurants too which can be useful if you don’t want to head into the centre for dinner after a long day on tours.

BelgiumThe presence of the reception was a bit spotty. They helped us do some laundry, but if you don't grab them at breakfast time, you sometimes wouldn't see them for the rest of the day. It took 2 days to track them down.
We were coming to San Pedro from Uyuni and due to a change in travel plans we arrived one day later. The hostal was incredibly flexible and changed our dates for no extra charge. The hotel has ample parking on the street as well which was very convenient as we rented a car (not via the hotel) during our stay. The hotel is also close to the bus station which is great if you are arriving via coach.

BulgariaThe hostel is 15 min walk from city centre and drop off point for most tours but fully safe to walk at night so no issue, just be prepped. Bonus is you are usually the first to be picked up.
Quiet and very clean, no noise and dust which you might get if you stay in the city centre. Perfect to relax and rest. Area is residential for local people so you can feel the real local atmosphere.

Hostal Solor is clean, cozy, comfortable, affordable and in a great location. Lis makes a superb breakfast and the best cafe con Leche in Chile. Javier the owner was wonderfully friendly. He invited us to his home for a tour of his farm and to hit golf balls at his "driving range" in the desert. He also connected us with Pablo a local guide to take us around the Atacama. (Pablo was outstanding) We can't say enough good things about our stay here and would encourage others to give Hostal Solor a try.

And the location was also perfect. My luggage was lost by the airline. The owner of the hostel was going to help me and he did everything to get it back. I’m very grateful for his help.

United KingdomThe lady who runs it is nice enough when doing her usual things but if you ask her for anything else she flat out says no. We asked her to help us book a taxi and she just said no. We would translate things to ask her on my phone as we only speak little Spanish and she would just orally respond talking rapid Spanish, making no effort to work with us to communicate. Also bear in mind if you pay by card there is an extra 3% charge which we were not made aware of. Also I had a message from the hotel saying we could pay via the wise app and when I asked the lady about it she had no idea what I was saying, even after showing her the message, so that’s also a no.
The room was spotless and comfortable, the bed was very nice and the shower was nice and hot. Breakfast was ok, same thing every day and quite salty.
