Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FranceThis is a bed and breakfast hotel. We happened to be there over the Easter weekend when many places were closed or had limited opening hours. A bar or facilities in the hotel for a drink would have been nice. This is NOT a criticism, water was provided in the room and we knew when we booked.
The location was perfect with lovely views over the port. Valparaiso is very hilly and the hotel is on top of one of the many hills which can be challenging, although there is a funicular nearby. Our room was very nice and breakfast was very good. The staff were extremely helpful with advice on where to eat, what to see, booking a transfer to the airport and so on. We were able to check out late as we had a very late flight at no extra cost. In addition there are lovely public rooms for reading and a beautiful garden for relaxing in.

Quirky old house converted to hotel. Staff went to great lengths to make our stay brilliant. Great location- a bit hilly to navigate but no issues. Lots of nice bars and restaurants nearby. We left before breakfast on our final day but they provided a wonderful packed goody bag so we didn’t miss out. Free afternoon tea and coffee on terrace- lovely touch

United StatesThough there are three floors of rooms, the property has more of an intimate bed and breakfast feel while still highly attentive to all guests needs. They had beautiful breakfast spreads laid out, were extremely helpful in restaurant and activity recommendation - especially over the holidays with a lot of closures. The spa area was also a great feature. It's a great location at the top of uptown Valpo.

SwitzerlandOne of the best hotels we have stayed at in Chile! The location is unbeatable, the building and rooms are wonderful, the breakfast is amazing and they were able to cater to my gluten-free diet. Spa could probably use a renovation in the near future but it‘s nice to have one in the first place.

United KingdomIt was all perfect. Unfortunately the restaurant wasn’t operating during our stay, but Marcelo recommend a couple of restaurants around the area, which turned out to be excellent
Beautiful old colonial building in a great location. Inside the attention to detail was second to none and so stylish. The room was beautiful with a great view and private balcony. There was central heating which was needed as it was a little chilly at night. The bed was very comfortable and shower good. We loved the fact they provided bottles of water, which we needed. The breakfast was amazing, all freshly prepared and plentiful and the hotel reception were very helpful, friendly and attentive We used the pool and incredible wooden hot tub the evening we arrived…absolutely amazing!

United StatesThe hotel staff went above and beyond for us. We arranged airport pickup and drop-off which worked perfectly. We also took their recommendations for a restaurant nearby since the hotel restaurant was closed. They arranged the reservation and the meal was superb. We also received a complementary upgrade for a room with fantastic view, which we appreciated. Recommend that you reach out directly to the hotel if you need "extras."

United StatesTerrace bar service was slow. We went there on our first day planning to have evening tea and snacks, but left when no one even approached us for an order in 30-40 min. We were overcharged in one of the restaurants recommended by the hotel. However, the difference was refunded when I asked that restaurant’s front desk why our total cost for dinner was much higher than expected based on the prices shown in their menu online. (Details in my Valparaiso review) Spiral staircase to the breakfast buffet area was fun, but could be challenging for folks with disability. I am assuming elevator going down to the basement may allow a connection to this area.
I made an exception doing a long review for this hotel as, despite its much higher daily rate, the price we paid was well worth the money. Located in 100-yr old building in a quiet part of Valparaiso, it was renovated around 2010-12. So there is an elevator to access upper floors -- convenient for our large suitcases for 3-wk trip to Chile. Our room, on top (3rd floor) included a desk, sitting area, coat closet and a refrigerator. With windows on two sides, we had a nice view of the Baburrazi Palace (Fine Arts Museum) as well as the ocean. We could hear gulls sitting in the room and enjoy street concerts in the plaza nearby. This room with the view was a no-cost upgrade. However, terrace bar of the hotel had similar view and we spent most days sightseeing. So, except for this para, my review won’t have changed much in another room. Breakfast buffet was amazing on the weekends. There was meringue, almond flour cake with lemon filling, other desserts, a choice of breads, 8-10 different fruits, variety of fresh juices, cheeses, coffee, tea, milk, eggs and sliced meats. The choices were less during the weekdays when there were fewer guests. Room had heating, no air-conditioning. But the hotel provided a floor fan upon request. In mid-Feb (summer peak in Chile), cross ventilation was adequate in our room. We only used the fan when going to bed early while there were a lot of people in the plaza outside the hotel. Room was quiet with windows closed. Hotel arranged the shuttle (private transfer) from Santiago airport and return at reasonable price. We were met with a sign and an English speaking person. Catalina, at the front desk, provided the location of the closest funicular (walking distance), nearest ATMs/cambios, restaurant recommendations and even suggested tours for Atacama where we were going later. Sam (breakfast, front desk), gave us a tour of the hotel including the wine cellar area. We used the library and the music room. Spa looked inviting.
