Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandI think the bathrooms really need to be renovated, the warm water took ages to arrive, we had to call to get warm water. I had two different rooms and the second room was really so-so, beds were not very stable and all equipments were a bit outdated.
It was very convenient, location is good and the manager was really helpful (even though my Chinese is not very good) but he helped me book quite a few activities. The rooms are simple but bed were confortable.

MexicoIt could be a little bit cleaner. But besides that it was really good.
The place is located in a very central spot. Is easy to walk to the night market and go to the different attractions like the cave or the desert temple by bus or taxi. The owner is very nice, even though there is the language barrier he was always there to help. The place has a nice resting/ common area that you can enjoy ether inside or in the outside with a lot of seats to choose from.

United KingdomWhilst the room looked clean at first glance, under the beds hadn't be swept for months or longer! The dust was thick and there were various objects which had been left by previous occupants over a period of time!
Quirky room. Excellent location close to the night market. Helpful staff. Easy to organise day trips.

IsraelThere is a strong smell of smoke in the public area on the floor we stayed, which was a bit unpleasant. And the corners of the floor in the room are quite dusty, seems like no one cleaned it ever.
The location is pretty great, 5 mins walk to the night market, where you'll find loads of amazing local dishes! The room is spacious, and lovely, decorated in Dunhuang style. The owner is a pretty nice guy, offered us lots of information for travel, food etc.

EgyptThe hostel was comfortable, clean and in a good location. The host was very accommodating and helped us book desert treks, showed us where the covid testing spot that accepted foreigners was, and gave us tips on where to find good food.

United StatesInitially we asked for a large, queen bed and twin bed room and also a two twin bed room. The large room would not cool with the air conditioner. Thankfully, the manager found a second twin bed room which did cool.
The same manager was always on duty and he was very helpful in helping us plan our trip and tours. The hostel was relaxed and was designed to look like the grottos. The design of the hallways and rooms were attractive. The hostel was next to a canal and a couple blocks from the night market and the main shopping street. We had access to a roof top area for washing clothing and for drying clothes.

ChinaThe floors need to be moped, particularly in the rooms, and particularly with pandemic worries like they are. My feet got dirty just walking around barefoot. Of course, Dunhuang is surrounded by sand so it is not an easy task...
Great location, nice decorations but probably the strongest thing to recommend this hostel is the owner. He does not speak English, but he communicates through WeChat and really, really does his best to be helpful and answer any questions you might have. And I asked a lot and he patiently answered them all.

United StatesWe lost power in the evening, so my room was unbearably hot in the morning. There was a lot of dust in the room, so my allergies started to act up a bit. Also, the address can be a bit tricky for a Dunhuang newbie. Check with the hostel manager if you have questions.
The location of the hostel was excellent. The hostel owner was super friendly and had various tours and events conveniently available for purchase at the front desk. Coffee and beer is also provided for an extra charge. The night market is only a ten minute walk and there are several supermarkets and shops nearby for any need someone might have. The lounge was super cozy and I was able to meet up with other travelers who were staying in the hostel.

The owner was helpful beyond all expectations. He arranged a day-long trip for me when I came down to ask for help around midnight... when everything on baidu was already sold out. You need to have cash or alipay/wechat pay working.

SpainHowever, we did not sleep well there. We had to ask to clean the floor because it was quite dirty. The mattress was made of stone. The pillows were too flat. The shower was a crazy fountain in the toilet, spreading water to every direction, located in an old balcony. Our room faced to a busy and noisy street. Even the billiards at the entrance of the hostel had the mat up.
Very well located. The place has a cool hostel vibe. The guy at the front desk, although he spoke no English, he was helpful and kind.

United KingdomVery good hotel for the price. Room is nice and clean and has everything you need. The staff there are super helpful with all questions from directions to tours and getting taxis. I went on a tour organised by the hotel to key places outside of Dunhuang like yumen pass and ghost city. The tour is good value and a must do. I would recommend to everyone for a trip to Dunhuang
