Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsIt was a little warm. Apparently due to the fact that it is a historical building, they’re not allowed to install AC. There were plenty of fans though.
This hotel (and its neighborhood) exceeded my expectations. Moon and Chalice is a beautifully designed hotel in a historical building. We only stayed in Kunming for one night, but we should have stayed longer. The area around the hotel is very cosy, has many small bars, shops etc. I would like to especially thank Mrs. Zhanglingling. She went the extra mile and more. Mrs. Zhanglingling helped us to get SIM cards - which is not easy in China. It took about 2 hours. Afterwards she escorted us to the train-station to help us buying tickets. Thank you so much!!

NetherlandsNothing. I didn't read the welcome message that was sent to me prior to my arrival, so it was my own fault that I couldn't find the hotel reception at first, because I was standing in front of the closed entrance door to the secondary building of the hotel in the street. But after asking around and in the restaurant I got to the reception desk in the main buiding. It was clearly explained in the welcome message though ....
The hotel is in a beautifully restored old art-deco building, right in the center of Kunming with the shops, restaurants and night market. The metro station is also withing walking distance. The green lake within walking distance as well. A special thumbs-up for Lingling, the manager, who does everything within her possibilities to assist her guests. She borrowed me a sim card the first day and went with me to the service centre of the provider to buy a sim card and stayed there in the queue with me until they actually installed the card in my phone. Thank you, Lingling, you are the best !

ThailandYou got to drag your luggage around 200 meters to the hotel by yourself as the road in front of the hotel is for the pedestrians only.
It’s like you are staying at the historical site itself. Fantastic! If you can afford, go for the suit as the room will be bigger with the iconic view of the street.

United KingdomNothing to do with the hotel at all but just a reminder to non-Chinese nationals to sort out Alipay/wechat payment to pay for everything and overseas vpn (before arriving in China) to access local internet searches as these gave me a lot of headache. Foreign credit cards linked to Alipay works intermittently for me and Google search and many websites doesn't work on local WiFi so I kept using up and paying for mobile data. Alternatively buy a Chinese sim card!
Zhang Ling Ling is the perfect concierge. She is the hotel gem. She went out of the way to help me with every little thing (and I had a lot of little annoying troubles in China being a foreigner and making a last minute unprepared trip) and she made my Kunming trip so memorable and precious. The hotel was great too. I asked for a quiet room and got one. Was upgraded to a much bigger room also. All amenities were provided and bottled water was replenished daily in multiples. I love the pretty room slippers also. Also have daily homemade Chinese sweet soup (dates wolfberry longan) in the room and fruits. Am not a fan of the tea but it is a nice touch for those that do or want to try Chinese taste.. Ling Ling feeds me homemade ginger tea every night if she sees me at night! She is also on wechat constantly helping me when I am wandering in Kunming. She needs a big payrise! Hope the owner is reading this review. Location was perfect too. Close to metro, old town, big malls, night market, street food etc.. And love the art deco style of the hotel building too. I had my morning coffees at Daily Coffee which is also located in the hotel building.

Everything! Stylish and equipped with beautiful historical furniture, attentive service from Nining and her colleague, who were extremely helpful with recommendations and being supportive when any doubts came up, and unbeatable location where everything is happening in Kunming’s old/central district. Would definitely stay again! Oh and the bathtub in our room was insane!

United KingdomIt’s just beautiful, all the amenities were first class, clean and comfortable. What makes Moon and Chalice stand out from all the other hotels is the staff. Nothing was too much trouble, you are treated like a good friend. If you’re a first timer in China this hotel is a must stay if you’re experienced travelling in China it’s a calm oasis to relax.

NorwayThe location is very in the center of Kunming old town and is an iconic building. So it is so noisy during the day and night. Only quiet after 1 am and before 8pm. Many tourists take pictures and pose in front of the hotel, so it gets very noisy. Also, it is very close to Yunnan People Monument, so it could be more noisy My room is very at the front of the main street, so at night cars also pass by. I wish they have aircon, not only fan. It could be a little warm in the afternoon, and my trip was the end of July. If you want more quite room, ask for room at the back side of the building.
I like the location, very strategic and central despite the noise. Very close to everything! In the heart of the old town, close to food area, historical places of old town, also close to shopping centers (malls if you need anything). The manager is very helpful and speaks english. She was very kind to organise me a trip with local tourists to Stone Forest at a very reasonable local price. She helped me to get local food and move around with taxi or metro. The room is lovely and clean with good facilities and equipment. They also upgraded my room, so a plus point!

Nothing.
We discovered the hotel by chance, and it turns out it was such a gem. The room was so comfortable and cozy, clean and pretty, the hotel was in such a lovely location with a local flavor and in a historical building, which is something rare. I slept on one of the most comfortable beds I slept on in all hotels. The room has floor heating in the winter, which is such comfort. The staff were warm and helpful and welcoming. I'd definitely return and would recommend it to anyone.
