Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Hong KongNot next to subway station (well aware of it before booking); As taxi is not expensive in Beijing, it is not a problem if you could call a taxi via DiDi or other apps. As DiDi was not working (maybe coz of overseas credit card), we asked hotel staff to call a taxi to go out every morning.
The staff are all very friendly and helpful. All speak very good English. The breakfast and coffee are exceptional where the dining area (2/f) makes you infused in the ambience of Hu Tong. Their Bake Shop sells very good cookies and bakery products (found out late; just right before heading to airport).

ChinaAs it is to be expected in a Hutong, there is not a lot of light in the rooms. So I would recommend it for 1-2 nights but not for a longer stay. The modification/cancellation policy is too strict, with some unclarities in the messages showing in the booking platform.
Charming hotel in a traditional Hutong with courtyard and terraces. Breakfast in the veranda on the roof was great.

United Kingdomour first room didn’t have a window , only a skylight which I normally wouldn’t mind but the heating was still running which made it too warm for me to sleep in. my husband was fine with it ! personal preference to have more fresh air which is what I’m used to they facilitated a change of room with no bother even though they were fully booked
an oasis within a houtong, calm and serene , away from the constant traffic and dusty streets very comfortable beds , fluffy towels , robes and little touches like a bottomless fruit bowl and fresh drinking water in the room

United StatesUnfortunately, my room was positioned right under the kitchen of the restaurant upstairs and there was a lot of noise for a very long time, until about 2:00 am. I complained a couple of times and the staff were wonderful with trying to get the noise down but because of the location and the necessity of cooking and cleaning the kitchen it just wasn't possible to get it quiet enough to get to sleep. The manager approached me the next morning and offered me a free night's stay as compensation for my sleepless night. I was very grateful and accepted this gesture happily as my friends had stayed in other rooms and had no problem with noise so I will return another day and stay in a different room. I'm more than sure it will be an outstanding experience.
The hotel is gorgeous and right in the middle of the lovely old hutong in downtown Beijing. Two friendly hotel cats and a beautiful room with a skylight. Loved it! Staff is wonderful, beautiful breakfast included in the rate. Really lovely.

The bed was the best bed I have ever slept in to include my own. The breakfast at Toast was delicious, and the staff was extremely helpful. I also loved the neighborhood. The setting was very authentic .

ChinaEverything! We arrived and we got us the warmest welcome. We were there to do research for our book and it couldn't be more perfect when one of the hotel managers handed us out 'the almost walkable Beijing map' (which they btw update each year for their customers with the funniest comments and explanations). My friend just gave birth, so she had to make some special requests and the hotel personnel couldn't be more considerate. The garden room that we had was so in character, with a small fruit bowl that is being refilled every day. Breakfast at 'Toast by Orchid' is just superb! And so many verified this as the hotspot to have lunch and dinner in Beijing (their hummus is no joke! Nothing but love). On top of that, 'The Bake Shop' is also theirs, just right next to their 'Toast by Orchid' and it happened to be so (we were also told by many) that it is the best sourdough bread in Beijing. We definitely fell in love with their cake and cookies too. You won't regret staying there. It is not possible not to fall in love with this little boutique hotel.

NetherlandsRoom 67 was great but for the bed. Sorry to say, the mattress was truly abominable, a slab of dented foam smack on the floor, terrible. Mattresses must be able to ventilate, but if the mattress is lying flat on the floor, body heat and moisture have nowhere to go. Extremely unhygienic.
The staff of this hotel is among the friendliest I have met on my trips abroad. Li Fan (aka John), Jack, Gaby, Kate, thank you for what you are. As for the hotel: wonderful location, in the middle of the hutongs, couldn't have wished for more.

ChinaThe staff were excellent. Gabby was always friendly and helpful and Chris made sure our stay was a good one. Anything we needed was provided very quickly. The room was great. It made us feel like we were a part of the life and culture in the hutongs while having modern amenities. The hotel's connection to The Bake Shop and Toast is great because you get a discount when you buy there during your stay. There are also quite a few good coffee shops in the area. The location is excellent which allowed us to explore the hutongs. It was a great stay.

The Orchid is one of the few remaining charming hutong hotels in Beijing. The rooms are designed and decorated with a lot of thoughts and heart, very clean too. The management pays a lot of attention to details. The rooftop restaurant is delicious and with a wonderful view towards the bell tower. They have a nice reception area, a hutong on the ground floor and even one room with a personal terrace. Staying there makes you feel like in the old time of Beijing. You do not feel the noise and stress of the city and there are so many nice bars and restaurants around. Most of the staff speaks very well English, in particular at the reception. They all are extremely caring and friendly, all very good hosts- at the forefront is Gaby to be mentioned-

New ZealandThe air con was poor and so we switched rooms after our first night as it was far too warm in the room. Staff were happy to oblige though. Bring insect spray/repellent as there are a lot of mosquitoes in the summer. Our rooms were nicely decorated but a mixed bag. One was musty and smelt damp, one was too hot. Were moved to another room which was great. Plenty to choose from though I think and overall they were pleasant and well priced.
Excellent location and great restaurants on site/nearby. Staff were excellent - very attentive and helpful (excellent English speakers too). We would go back.

Hong KongThis was not the fault of the property of course, but many of the things I enjoyed about the neighborhood were all shut down. Didn’t leave me with much to do.
I have always enjoyed this rather special property. It’s my last day at the orchid before going home I’m leaving China. I wanted one last visit before I left. I’ve been there many times before and truly enjoyed the hotel and special hutong area
