Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesI had heard the food was fantastic but unfortunately the head chef and owner was away. The food was disappointing - extremely bland, no flavor or spices at all. (But, separately, the dessert I had which had been pre-made by the chef was delicious).
Fantastic service - friendly, accommodating, kind, and helpful. Chic design. Comfortable. Nice view and wonderful to wake up to the sounds of so many birds.

ChinaLocated in a small and remote village, this experience is more of a home stay with friends, than a swanky hotel. This was perfect for us while looking for comfort and peace. The guesthouse is clean, well-decorated, and warm. The food was a highlight, with the hostess being well-versed in both western and Chinese cooking, and even bringing us up afternoon tea with her homemade cakes every day. The hosts were happy to help us arrange cars and bikes for us to get around conveniently, and gave us an introduction to the area and the best places to go.

United KingdomQuiet and peaceful location with the perfect hosts. The food was exceptional and they accommodated a gluten free diet (celiac). It was mine and my husband’s first Christmas in China and Alita and her husband and their staff went above and beyond to make our stay special. We really enjoyed our holiday, exploring Yangshuo and soaking up the breathtaking countryside, and we are looking forward to returning!

United KingdomNothing. The perfect stay! :)
This was by far my favourite stay ever in China (and I've been living in China for 2.5 years). The location is away from the touristy areas, so it's very quiet and peaceful, completely surrounded by beautiful scenery. Bicycles were hired for us by our hosts, so we went off cycling direct from the accommodation into the surrounding villages, countryside and mountains. If you want to venture to the city centre (which we rarely did) you can get easily get taxis or Didi. A big part of what made this stay so wonderful for us was the friendly hosting of San Ge and Xiaoyu. They helped provide us with the bikes, local recommendations, help buying tourist site tickets and Xiaoyu is an amazing cook too! (she was professionally trained in Shanghai) We frequently walked to the local restaurants to experience the tasty local food, but we should have made more time to have dinner prepared by Xiaoyu - next time we will! Just a little advice for foreigners, if you can't speak Chinese, just be prepared for the language barrier, but with WeChat you can get over this challenge. I always like to travel to new places, but if I come back to Yangshuo in the future, I will definitely stay at the Yangshuo Serene Cove Hotel again :)

ChinaNOTHING!
The location is amazing! It is a bit far from the train station where we got off but almost every hotel in Yangshuo is going to be far from it so might as well stay in a nice, clean, quiet area while you're in Yangshuo despite the distance! And if you are worried about distance, they can also arrange a taxi for you but it will be more expensive than getting a Didi. Their included breakfast and tea time is also great as the other guests have already mentioned and the views from your rooms are awesome as well. Also they have a lovely dog and a pair of adorable cats who are super friendly. You can also rent an e-bike and they will personally guide you to an amazing scenic spot, but just be sure to use a translator if you cannot speak Chinese.

ChinaThe path outside the property is too narrow, it could cause problems for taxi drivers who are not familiar to the village.

ChinaLet me start by saying this place is way off and far as well as hard to get to but calling a Didi is fine but got lost the first time, but a little scary as the road is very small and can become costly. If you are used to the city this might be a tough stay. The rooms also miss smaller details like holes that aren’t covered and a very leaky shower, cracked walls and sockets coming out of the wall and not working properly. There is also no English so get those translators ready and they can only accept Alipay and WeChat but no card option and couldn’t use my credit card. They also couldn’t offer a fapiao if you need that. There are also no restaurants near so need to order before the time if you want lunch or dinner.
The serene cove hotel is exactly what the name says it is. If you are the traveler that don’t mind a place far off the beaten path then this place is for you. The owners definitely have put their heart and soul into the place and try to make guests feel welcome. The room style looks good and having a small pool is a big plus. Breakfast was amazing and got some cake during afternoon tea. It is a 20 minute drive to Yangshuo town and over an hour to get to Xingping ancient town (where you can take your 20RMB photo). The mountainous area is beautiful. I was lucky that my travel companion could talk to the owner to hear the back story of the place which makes it even more special.
