Exceptional location, right at the junction between the sea and the river. Our room was incredible... literally above the waves crashing with an open concept and a Mosquito net around the bed. By far, the best accommodation we had in Colombia! Lovely staff, nice pool, excellent restaurant and breakfast. Very special place. Do not miss it!

Not the best place for swimming in the Caribbean sea, the waves are strong and the currents are dangerous. Great spot for surfing, however.

What a great eco-lodging experience! Unique cabanas open on the sea with incredible views! Excellent food at the restaurant. The terrace of the dining room has a spectacular view on the rio (you can see caimans) and on the sea. Staff very helpful, and bilingual (not so frequent in Colombia). Great massages at the spa on site. The pool is super pleasant. Perfect location for visiting the Tayrona National Park, only a 5 min drive away.

Everything was fabulous - loads of birds - but if you are above the beach so bring ear plugs- my Bose noice cancelling ones saved my sleep!

This is a truly spectacular place with a large river running into the Caribbean Sea. The variety of rooms is much larger than I thought and it was much more upmarket than I realized as we had booked 2 open rooms perched right above the beach. These were an incredible experience , but you do have to be mobile to get up the open steps to the rooms and need good earplugs as the surf is really loud. If you want something luxurious there are many other options. The restaurant and staff were incredible- excellent food and drinks. The ocean is probably too rough to swim in ( although there was a couple of local surfers out there) but there is a nice, small and quiet swimming pool. I took a taxi to the entrance of the Tayrona park, then took the bus to the start of the jungle walk to the beaches. I didn't realize there would be so many vendors and restaurants in the park. Bought fresh squeezed orange juice from an indigenous woman half way to Piscina beach, which is as far as I walked. Had a good swim and decided to take a horse ride back to the bus, which was a great choice as it took a different route back to the bus which was interesting. But in all honesty the view and beach at Barvolento was better than anything in the park!

Since the room was literally over the ocean and entirely exposed to the elements without glass in the windows, all our belongings had sea spray on them at the end of our stay. However, that's a given based on the epic location of the room, not a complaint.

Amazing property in a beautiful location with beautiful panoramic views. We could feel the ocean underneath us. Literally, our favorite property we stayed at in Colombia. Great food and excellent service.

The bed was too small, in our particular room, but I don’t think all were like this. The stairs down the the private bathroom were tricky at night!

We were staying in the Cabaña which was quite different being completely open on the sea. I didn’t realise from the pictures online that the bathroom (even if private for the room) was outside and quite difficult to reach during the night with all the steps. The weather wasn’t that great either so being en plein air was a bit tricky.

The property is curated, the reception + restaurant area really beautiful with good food. The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful.

Some of the facilities are a little run down, but other than that we loved every moment!

We loved our short stay at Cabana Barlovento, we wished to stay more but they were fully booked (for a reason). The view from our room has been amazing, we were literally above the beach. The food was very good and reasonably priced. The staff did everything to make our stay comfortable, many thanks for that!

no walls means you hear everything from your surroundings and dust, moisture or insects can enter your "room". don't come here if you expect a traditional or super tidy enclosed hotel room.

Adding fans to the restaurant / lobby area would be a good idea!

We stayed in one of the "cabanas" rooms that are open to the sea and it was truly a one-of-a-kind experience, falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the waves. The mosquito net worked fine and there was a fan, plus with the breeze and good quality mattress it was actually quite comfortable. The staff of the hotel and restaurant / bar are fantastic, special shout out to Juan! The food at the restaurant was some of the best we've had in Colombia, including a very generous breakfast. The pool area was great to relax too. The beach by the hotel is probably one of the cleanest and nicest in the region. Viewing the sunset both on the river where you can observe caymans, and on the oceans where you can watch surfers, was a great experience.

The restaurant has a limited selection and the food, although good, was not as good as the sister property next door. I can eat at the other property for lunch or dinner if you make a reservation. The bar was okay but it seems like you have to pay for your alcoholic drinks separately. (in the bar) This is a bit inconvenient. In my experience, one can give their room number and just have it charged to the room.

The location was perfect. Right on the beach and next to the river. The staff were helpful and friendly the property is kept clean and in good order.
