Very friendly staff! We arrived at 10 pm and they arranged a tour for us for the next day, including a private guide. In the morning they were so kind to make us a lunch package as we were leaving early. Pool is very good

Although I had asked for a quiet room I was given one near the reception which meant it was noisy from people who checked-in late. There were also some inconsiderate guests who banged the doors. There is a pane above the door that lets the corridor lights in and one can't sleep before they are turned off. Internet was sketchy. The first day it was fine, the second one I couldn't connect. I'm not sure if it was an automated message but I got a message from the hotel stating I had to prepay the room rate at some Colombian bank! The rate I got from booking was less than the rate the hotel had from booking. At the end the receptionist said he would sort it out with booking. But the whole thing was upsetting.

The room was very clean. The staff, Esperanza and her colleague, were very accommodating. They prepared us a nice salad for breakfast as we are vegan. They offered us ice cubes so we could drink cold water. They even apologized for the noise caused by somebody's late check-in. The swimming pool is a plus in Villavieja's hot weather. They offer good value tours (with or without guide) to the Desierto de Tatacoa. The restaurant they recommended (Sal si puedes) was very good.

The room did not have a window and no air conditioner therefore it was almost imposible to sleep.

The pool is refreshing and almost must have in the desert when the temperatures are over 30C. The location is also great, 1 minute from the main square.

Nothing in particular. Cold showers, which aren't too bad considering it's extremely hot anyways.

Good location, right next to the 'central square'. We were lucky enough, so we could entry the hostel around 5 in the morning, immediately after arriving in the little city. Unbelievably important was a good working AC in the warmth of the desert. Could book a tour to the Tatacoa right through the hostel for good value. Nice pool!

The cold shower with no temperature control, can be appreciated to cool down during the day, not so much for us when showering in the evening.

The friendly staff were super helpful despite our poor Spanish and them not speaking English. As we're vegan and there are limited options for eating out here, they even let us use their kitchen to cook our lunches and evening meals when we liked. They also provided us with affordable tours to the desert and a observatory experience, though both were in Spanish. The pool was great too, as was the air conditioning in the rooms and the room itself, even having an extra bed we could use to lay our luggage out!

There was some construction work going on which is good to be aware of. It didn't annoy us at all and didn't put us off wanting to stay again. We actually tried to book to come back and stay after our trip to the Tatacoa Desert, but were disappointed to find the hotel was fully booked.

From the moment we set foot in this hotel we felt welcomed. The woman on reception was a delight to deal with. The room was lovely - it seemed like it had been redecorated recently too. Everything felt new and fresh. The pool was excellent and most definitely needed to cool down from the heat. We were able to buy drinks and snacks on-site and the included breakfast was a nice touch. The location was just off the main square so it was very easy to find.

I didn't like the noisy partiers outside our window until 12am which is not that bad for Colombia as a whole. Colombia loves to party.

Literally everything was dirty. Hairs in the bed, hairs on the towel, etc. There was a random razor, a bar of soap, and a bottle of soap in the shower. There was no one else staying there when we spend the night here, so I didn’t really get why they put us in a dirty room. The breakfast that was included was fine, but the majority of the watermelon we got was not good anymore.

The location was nice and they had a pool, which is nice after a hot day in the desert.

After arriving after a 12 hr travel day at 8pm, we were disappointed that we were greeted with the host pushing us to book a “night tour” at an observatory for the next evening. Their tour costs 190k for 2 people, which covers transportation costs and entrance. The host was unable (or unwilling) to answer a number of questions so luckily we didn’t book, as the next day we found out you can do the same tour with a tuk tuk for 60k, tickets and transport included. You can also just walk to the observatory and just pay the ticket price of 10k pp. I am very supportive of locals benefiting from tourism, however this just feels like opportunitism. Also worth noting that the host doesn’t speak English. This isn’t usually a problem for us as we speak a little Spanish, and people have a way of finding a way to communicate if they want to, despite language barriers… however this is the first time in our 3 months in LATAM that I felt the language barrier was an issue when speaking with the host. For this reason we did not feel totally welcome.

The pool was empty, the front door was locked and front desk left us inside the hotel. Next day the plan was to go to the dessert for sunrise, and we were locked inside the facility. Can even imagine it there was a fire or an emergency. Very disappointed

No AC unit or window in our room.

For the price it's hard to complain, but we were under the impression that our room would at least have a window. It's hot here, so it was very hot at night not having an AC unit or window. Overall it's a nice place and nice staff. Just would recommend staying in a different room.

Very hot and no air conditioning. We would also have liked to have information or recommendations from the staff for a day trip + night in the Desierto de la Tatacoa...this is the main purpose of going to Villavieja.
