Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe hotel courtyard is very pretty and the rooms surrounding it comfortable with good air conditioning. Food was good. The hotel staff were exceptional, very helpful about everything. We had a guide, Juan Lopez, organised by the hotel for a tuk tuk tour of the desert, who I would recommend. Thank you Hotel Colonial for a lovely stay.

United KingdomFrom the moment I checked-in Andreas was super welcome and helpful. All the staff on the property were. It's very close to the central square of Villavieja so shops and restaurants are nearby. The food was great - I ate breakfast, lunch and dinner there. Pretty reasonably priced for the food and a few drinks. The rooms were clean, comfortable and had good air-conditioning. Andreas helped organise tuk tuks and tours to the desert.

United KingdomWe had some very short power cuts one evening due to the storm, but this affected a wide area and is by no means a reflection on the hotel.
The staff were all very friendly and made sure I had a great experience from booking a Tatacoa tour to generally making me feel welcome. Andres was particularly helpful, letting me check in early and keep my room a little later when I checked out. The location for the Tatacoa Desert is perfect and I was surprised how good the food was (particularly the grilled chicken and limonada, the chef was very friendly too). The value for money is incredible.

SwitzerlandThe service helped me a lot as I arrived at 4am in the morning (there were only certain busconnections available). The service is very nice and flexible, they have a lot of understanding for specific situations and will always help you out. The room is great. It has everything you need, its clean, quiet and has a good and quiet aircon. For the price unbelievably good! The pool is also nice.

AustraliaIt’s super cute and social - it’s all wrapped around a communal eating area in the middle which is wonderful as a solo traveller to be able to meet others. It’s just lovely.

South AfricaThere was nothing wrong with the hotel. Definitely one of the best, if not the best in Villavieja.
This hotel has rooms all around a central court yard. The restaurant is in the court yard and there are beautiful plants which attract birds and give an overall look of freshness. The restaurant has powerful fans which help with the heat. Our room had an aircon, which is rare for Villavieja and Tatacoa. The beds were comfortable and although there is only cold water, it was no problem because of the heat in this area. The breakfast consisted of fruit juice, toast and eggs made to order, and coffee. It was nice and more than enough. We had lunch once and dinner twice at the hotel's restaurant and the food was delicious. We also had very good cocktails. The restaurant is open all day till 10 pm. They also have an ice cream fridge where you can buy different delicious ice creams any time of day. The staff were very friendly and helpful and some of them do speak English. We asked them to arrange our transport from Neiva airport to the hotel and to arrange a tuk tuk and guide to take us to the Grey dessert and Red dessert the day after our arrival (our only full day in Villavieja). Yeison Medina waited for us at the airport when we arrived late on a Sunday night and transported us to the hotel. He also happened to be our guide for the dessert trips. He is a professional guide at the observatory as well and he was very knowledgeable about the geology, the history and the fauna and flora of the dessert. He spoke English well enough, he was very funny and full of jokes and we had a wonderful day with him. He was also a magician with a cell phone and took very creative photos of us in the dessert. We will remember him every time we look at our holiday photos. Hotel Villavieja is definitely the obvious choice if you plan to visit the Tatacoa dessert. Don't bother to find a tuk tuk on the square or anywhere else for dessert tours, just ask the hotel to arrange it for you and hope that Yeison Medina is your guide.

SloveniaWould prefer if we were told about the guide not speaking english. Breakfast was a bit smaller than elsewhere we have been.
The location is great, less than 5 minutes walk from the main square - the bus station. The rooms are basic, but comfortable, they have AC. The host (Andres) was really kind, positive and helped with all our questions. He can help with organising tours to the desert (just be careful, our guide Juan only spoke spanish). Overall the whole family is very friendly and welcoming. Would defenitly recommend staying here.

SwitzerlandNothing!
Staying at this hidden gem in Villavieja was a game-changer for my Colombian adventure! The location is spot-on, right next to the Tatacoa Desert, making it super convenient. The family running the hotel? Pure magic! From spontaneously inviting me to local hangouts, introducing me to the vibrant Placa scene, I felt like a part of them! The room was comfy, the pool perfect for post-desert relaxation, and the overall atmosphere made every moment unforgettable. Can't wait to come back and create more stories with this amazing crew!

United KingdomThe room didn't have a chair and I needed to do some work. The hotel suggested taking one from the breakfast area which I did but there was also a covered terrace on the second floor whcih had no furniture on it either, a bit strange. I had a taxi booked for very early for a flight but the night man didn't seem to know about it. He had to ring around to find me someone who could take me and it all worked out fine in the end. It's not the best place to do video calls. The room I was in (201) the wifi didn't work most days/wasn't strong enough to do video calls, the reception WiFi was good but there was a lot of background noise so I'd skip video meetings as WhatsApp calls and working at a laptop was all fine
Nice setting around a courtyard type garden and pool at the back. The room was quiet and spacious and breakfast is included. The staff were helpful in telling me what tours were avaialble or how I could get to the desert on my own. It's the first place I've stayed on this trip were the rooms were cleaned every day without asking
