Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

BelgiumYou’ll have to use the electrical outlets in the morning to charge your phone at the kitchen counter. The water bought separately is overpriced.
The staff is very nice and the facilities were good enough and a decisive improvement if compared to camping in the desert.

ColombiaThe location is a little bit expensive to get to since it is near the end of the desert. There was no designated common space other than the one belonging to the house of the host family, which meant we spent tge evenings in the room
The hosts were friendly, breakfast was very generous and yummy, very beautiful location with great views, good mosquito nets in the bedroom, solar power

GermanyThere were a couple of things that can be not too comfortable, but mostly they are like this due to the fact that you're in an area that is hard to access and far from the comfort of bigger cities. Mobile phone coverage was not so good, which made communication a bit tricky sometimes. The huts that the hotel has are powered by solar cells. This made it so that the light would get dimmer and dimmer during the night, having at most 30 minutes of normal light and then having barely usable light. Also about the electricity method, the fan would only store enough energy during the day to work around 5 to 10 minutes. So, we had to be very careful about the usage of both the fan and the lights. In the end the small discomfort added up to the authenticity of being in the middle of nowhere.
Our stay at Mirador Valle de la Tatacoa was excellent! The place is far from the noisy more touristic area which makes it the perfect place to disconnect and have a peaceful time. Although at the same time it's right in front of one of the landmarks, the "Valle de los xilopalos". The hotel will give you the contact of some locals who can guide you around in case you don't have your own car. They also offer some rental options of bikes (2 of them available) or even some guests got a motorcycle (not sure if it was a special case). I would recommend that for your stay you spend at least 2 full days (from early in the morning and including the 2 nights) to explore the area. One full day to do the typical touristic things (valle de los xilopalos, red and grey parts of the tropical dry forest, and astronomy workshop) and a second day to do a tour on the further side of the desert. In our case Jose (the owner) helped us coordinate a tour to a chocolate farm, which was really good. Then we had a ride through a long desert road where we could make spontaneous stops to see the landscape or to watch some birds. We also had time to got to two museums (natural history and a small palaeontological one). And we also had a relaxing break at a mud + natural pool venue. All in all the service was excellent and Jose (the owner) and his collaborators were super kind and helpful.

ItalyMaybe it is pretty far from Villavieja and the observatory but if you are looking for peace and silence this is the right place. Mind the mosquitos, very aggressive!
Bungalow in the middle of the desert, very simple but in line with the expectations considering the location. Beautiful view on the desert. Meals for few euros

GermanyThe staff only speaks Spanish, so if you don’t know basic Spanish you will struggle a lot more. Also the tour we did with Jose was only Spanish. It’s nothing bad - just something you need to be aware of! Also it will be a 45 minute ride by tuk tuk or car from Villavieja do get there. It’s easily available for 80.000 COP per trip.
You’re in the middle of the desert with perfect views for stargazing. Right at the entrance to the longer grey desert track. The staff is very nice and helpful!

NetherlandsNothing, everything was great.
The owner, the family, the view, the tiny houses, the meals, the service - everything was perfect… The owners were very helpful during our stay, helping us to navigate to all places we liked to visit. The atmosphere at the accomodation is very welcoming, relaxed and the view is absolutely amazing… also a perfect veranda to watch the stars at night. We enjoyed every single bit during our stay!

GermanyA little far from Desierto Rojo but nothing a mototaxi can’t handle :)
People here are so friendly! The shared bathrooms were clean and the little hut we slept in was really lovely. Feels really relaxed here. If you look for a quiet place in the nature, this is perfect. Only 2kms from Desierto Gris.

AustriaWe had such a lovely and laidback time. If you want the full desert experience with nothing but nature around you, you are at the right place. José was a really friendly, funny and generous host. The place is beautiful, the cabaña was comfortable and clean, the food delicious and we couldn't have wished for anything more. My recommendation would be: stay more than one night ;) it's worth it ¡Muchisimas gracias!

GermanyThe place has a very nice view and is surrounded by nature. The owner is a very good cook and offers vegetarian options, too. There are two Bikes you can rent for 20.000 a day. Its near the Pool, which is pretty nice for the hot days. The Ranch has everything you need (water, Snacks....) and the owners are very kind. Overall we enjoyed our stay, even though it was more expencive than we anticipated. (- buying water, food, transportation...But maybe that's just the way it is in the desert)

AMAZING PLACE! We cannot fault our stay one bit - the owners of this place are so friendly and hospitable and Juan (I think that is his name - sorry!) had a real great sense of humour! Both owners are welcoming, nothing was too much, amazing food and a bargain for where we were! This place is right within the grey desert - we stayed in a cabin that overlooked the whole of the desert, the views were epic. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner and enjoyed every meal! The portions were huge and very tasty. Comfortable bed and pillows, clean rooms, clean toilets and showers. We forgot to get enough cash out in Villvieja but the lady let us go back and get the cash before we left, and put everything on a tab for us. The location is a bit further than the red desert but that's what makes it so peaceful. It isn't hard to get around as you can grab a ride easily. We also hired bikes from here which were great. We highly recommend this place - it's so peaceful and accommodating. Gracias amigos!!

Czech RepublicA remote, peaceful place. Felt a bit deserted when we got in but in the end, it turned out to be a great choice. Very helpful staff and tasty breakfasts. If you have a car, this would be top pick in Tatacoa. But do not expect a hotel.

AustraliaLiked everything - have absolutley nothing bad to say!!
Stayed for two nights alone, utterly beautiful location and cabin. Super clean, showers and toilets were great also. Best of all is the friendly and helpful hosts. They were welcoming, warm, and very helpful - my spanish is quite terrible but they never made me feel unwelcome. Can borrow a bike to ride to the red desert (about 40 min, otherwise a 2h walk) and the farm is directly opposite the entrance to the xilopalos trail - download the all-trails app first if you do this as it is easy to get lost, but i found the trail again using the gps locator. Food was great 😄

United KingdomHuts are very small and basic, no WiFi and no electricity, just solar power so the fan works off a battery which doesn't last more than 2 hours at night. Room gets stuffy and unbearable. You need to eat the meals at the place as there is nothing else nearby. I wouldn't stay longer than 2-3 nights. 200,000cop to get a lift from Neiva to the accommodation which I think is too expensive when a local taxi offered 120,000.
The huts are in the grey desert and you can walk to the mineral pool a d other key sites here. But you will need a car or a taxi to get here, it's super remote. Food is quite cheap around 15,000cop per meal.
