The reserve itself is a very enjoyable twenty minute walk through the jungle from the village of Santa Sofia. My guide Angel was super knowledgable and helped me with whatever I wished to do or see. You can see the the amount of thought and care that has gone into the construction of the accommodation. You can watch the "babaleches" hop from tree to tree as you relax in the communal area and enjoy a home cooked meal. You really feel at peace with nature in Tucuchira.

This is a very basic hostel with super friendly and nice people. We are senior citizens. We could have used more railings, especially on the steps to the bathroom which was located quite a bit from the rooms. (The staff was very nice though and cut me a walking stick.) Also, as with any place, asking the price before you commit is a good idea. Some of the activities were much cheaper than we thought they would be, but some more expensive and we didn't plan enough money. Since most places on the Amazon only take cash, and we were in the beginning of our trip, this caused us some worries. They took some US dollars though so it worked out. It's not really "what I didn't like", but my advice for any traveler and a reminder to me too!

If you are looking to get into the jungle and experience the nature of the Amazon up close and personal, look no further. We liked everything about it - from the guides who met our ferry and led us to the hostel, to the really delicious food (the best in the Amazon, in my opinion), to the activities, to the troop of monkeys who visited for bananas, and, of course, the hammocks. We took a great hike to one of the oldest trees in the area and heard stories about the spirit who live in these trees. We also took a trip to visit a nearby village and learned how to paint with all natural dyes as well as watched a pretty exciting soccer match. The staff was friendly, helpful, engaging sharing stories, meals and a killer game of pachisi with us. James, the owner, developed the hostel to highlight the indigenous people of the area and it is entirely staffed by local people (a lot of his family!). His love of the Amazon shines here.

When we decided to go to the Amazonas region in Colombia we were hoping for a real jungle experience, to be surrounded by nature and to see animals. But we didn't expect the amazing and unforgettable time we would have at Reserva Tucuchira. To get there by boat and then later walk to the lodge from the river takes a while, but is already an experience in itself as you walk directly into the jungle. We were welcomed very warmly and instantly felt very safe and comfortable. The accomodation is basic (no electricity, shower with saved rain water outside) but that's part of what makes it great and authentic: we had a nice double room with a big bed + mosquito net and waking up with a direct view into the jungle so we could see monkeys from our bed :-). The food is nice and they really tried to make us enjoy our stay (they even made extra veggie options although being a vegetarian is not common in Colombia). We also felt very welcome in the community of Santa Sofia that is the village close to the lodge and the people there told us a lot about their culture as indigenous and how they try to preserve their language and rituals. They even invited us to celebrate new years eve with them in the community. We could really feel how much they love their home and the nature and we fell in love with it too! There are a lot of different tours offered and the guides always take care to give you the best possible experience. Our highlight was camping in the jungle in hammocks where they cooked over the open fire for us as well as going kayaking on the Amazon river to see pink dolphins. If you want to disconnect and really feel what its like to live in the Amazonas this is exactly the right place for you!

Really an extraordinary experience. In the middle of the rain forest 30 to 40 mins away from Santa Sofía by foot The stuff is very friendly. The food is very good. You can do a lot of different activities. But be aware that the guides only speak spanish. My best experience in Colombia so far. Ten out of ten :)

Amazing place in the middle of Amazon jungle. A very authentic experience. Anna and the team of guides are very helpful, welcoming, and respectful. I enjoyed every thing from the moment I arrived. Even getting there is an experience to remember. I think Reserva Natural Tucuchira is not just a place to stay but an experience which every nature loving traveller should at least have once. Great thanks to Anna and my guide Ismael for this wonderful experience.

Maybe one little criticism is the price of some activities, but of cource you can make it as expensive as you want yourself. I dont think this place is more expensive than others, everywhere they have these package prices.

This was a very nice and personal amazon experience. Everything was clean, very good taken care of and every day you day is ajusted to your personal wishes. Lovely staff, genuinely friendly and they care about your experience. Mosquito nets are provided and showering in the jungle is a very cool experience too! Loved the activities provided, just chilling in the big hammock between the green nature. Meals are excellent, even for vegetarians. Overall a great way to discover the amazon and be in the center of where it all happens. Much quieter and more authentic than puerto narino or Leticia!

The lodge itself is a bit ramshackle, but generally clean. Beware of the very steep steps up to the 2nd floor rooms and down to the toilets. In wet season you have to take a short boat ride from the Amazon River bank to the lodge (instead of sending one of their larger boats to meet our party of 5, they sent a boy in a small wooden boat). Otherwise, a modest investment in mosquito netting, toilet seats, shower heads, napkins, and cutlery would make for a much more comfortable stay.

We enjoyed the forest setting, far enough from town to have a jungle feel, with lots of birds, frogs, and butterflies. The food was good, if simple, and portions were generous. The guided tours of the surrounding forest and rivers were magical, and we saw lots of river dolphins.

I had a horrible experience at this place. I am amazed at the dishonesty and lack of communication from the owner of this property! I booked a bed in a dormitory expecting to book tours while I was there or have access to activities in the Amazon. On my way to the reserve, I met some lovely people on the boat who were staying with the host's brother. I asked the host to join them for the night hike and he said no, because I could only book tours through him. I booked his night tour which was advertised as a 3 hr tour. I confirmed with 2 other guests and the guide l. The guide said the tour started at 7pm. The owner was nowhere to be found during this exchange... I patiently waited while dinner was delayed. At 8pm after the delayed dinner, I asked when the tour would start. The host said that there was no tour! Then the guide pretended that I hadn't confirmed the tour with him... The guide also never told me to talk to the owner to confirm the tour. After a confusing 5 minutes, the guide took us on a 1.5 hour hike and did not look for animals the way other guides did on other tours. We only walked 2 minutes into the primary forest and spent the rest of the time in the secondary forest. It was the worst tour of my 7 day trip. When we returned at 9:30pm, the host was again nowhere to be found and we were told that he was asleep. I thought to confirm the advertised canoe tour in the morning and not wake him up. In the morning, the host is again missing!! I asked the three guides about the canoe tour or a hiking tour or anything. They said that they do not provide tours in the rain... I said ok, then I would like to leave. They said that there was no way for me to leave and i needed to wait for the host to return. Nobody knew when he would be back ! I was stuck at the reserve, no electricity and helpless waiting for the only boat to come at 2pm. The only reason there was a boat was for the other guest!
