Beautiful property that Pilar, the owner, really cares about. We spent the last days of our Colombia trip here and we are so glad we did. Pilar gave us a room with a mesmerizing view of the scenery with Santa Marta seen from afar. We can hear birds, watch flowers and go on excursions nearby. The meals are prepared with care and beautiful ingredients. I highly recommend her place even if it’s a bit further up. Thank you Pilar 😊

Wish we had stayed longer

The view was breath taking, the food was the best we had in our two week trip to Colombia. A beautiful remote spot in paradise. Was a wonderful place to be after the craziness of Santa Marta. The sunsets were spectacular. Pilar (the owner) arranged a hike to a waterfall which was beautiful (very steep downhill and mules back). There are obviously mosquitoes or biting insects that did not bother me but loved my youngest adult daughter.

Our room was dark even in broad daylight, and we felt a little bit cold at night. We booked thinking every room had the view displayed in the pictures but we got one that didn’t. Pilar explained that they kept the original house’s architecture, hence the lack of light inside. So if the view is important to you, double check the one you actually booked.

The location is very remote which allowed for total disconnection. Also the restaurant was exceptional, the food was without a doubt the best we had in Colombia. The personnel was extremely nice, Pilar the owner is amazing and gives special attention to every guest. The cascade activity blew our minds.

Stunning location ,Pilar is an incredibly attentive host nothing is too much trouble for her . She introduced us to her guide Richard who took us on a fabulous excursion on horseback ..she also arranged our transport from Santa Marta The hotel is a real gem in the Sierra Nevada and the food was the best we had in Columbia...make the effort to visit you won't be disappointed!!

It couldn’t have been better

This place is AMAZING! Gorgeous views, comfortable cabins and beds with an incredible porch overlooking the mountains, the food was 5 stars, and the staff was incredibly kind and gracious. Pilar is an excellent host and everything about this accommodation is wonderful!

You need to spend 35€ only to get there from Minca. This was well explained by the host (Pilar). Once there, the only way you can move is to rent a motorbike, which we strongly suggest. You will not regret it

Fantastic research of detail in Pilar’s Finca. We loved our stay there. Breakfast and staff are also amazing. We’ll come back again!

I enjoyed the outdoor bathroom, but it was a bit chilly at night to use - bring enough warm clothes. Send Pilar a message if there is no hot water for the shower. I would bring more water and snacks next time since there is a fridge in the room.

Pilar is an AMAZING host and person. Her entire staff was fabulous as well! We stayed in one of the stand-alone rooms that was closest to the kitchen - you can hear people around meal times, but not too loud. The view was stunning, and we sat around just staring at the passing clouds. We ate no repeat meals – each was delicious and unique. This is one of the most peaceful places we have stayed – we only heard the rumble of an engine or a few far-off voices every now and again. The bed was so comfy, and there were plenty of blankets to keep us warm.

We have t found anywhere in Colombia where the hotel provides some written information on the facilities of the hotel and what is available to do locally. So, not a criticism of this hotel, but we have found it very helpful

Beautiful location, incredible sunsets with Santa Marta lit up below and most delicious and beautifully presented food we had in Colombia. Amazing place for a 3 night stay just be prepared for the 4x4 30 mins journey to and from Minca. Pillar is an excellent hostess.

This is a magical place surrounded by the beauty of nature! Pilar goes above & beyond to make you feel comfortable & helps you plan out adventures & “paseos” to get to know the area. Richard, a local travel guide, can lead you on amazing hikes to hidden waterfalls that will take your breath away! The staff was so kind and the meals were absolutely delicious. This location is stunning. I couldn’t recommend it more! I’m already dreaming about coming back!

The location is up a very steep hill only accessible by 4x4 for the last 700m but this made it more magical. The hotel coordinated our transport from Santa Marta. The food was exceptional, and we really enjoyed the views from our deck and the lounge area. We also had a problem with a case not arriving, and Petre went out of her way to help us coordinate the delivery. Thank you much appreciated. 🙏

Could do with a kettle in the room and tea/chocolate as well as coffee. Another lamp to make the room lighter maybe, but these are small considerations. Also be aware that there are a lot of mosquitos. This is just an outcome of where you are but make sure you have a good repellent and after bite cream!

Amazing views from a stylish and comfortable property. The food is possibly the standout with the highest level of cooking and presentation. The staff are friendly and professional and the owner Pilar does whatever she can to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The excursions to the waterfall is well worth doing.

Views from this hotel are excellent. Just plan to arrange transportation with the owner from Minca to be able to navigate the roads successfully. Food was great and the staff were very nice and accommodating to our preferences. The owner helped us arrange tours/outings which were also fantastic.

Room was dark and basic. hot tub only got truly hot by the third day but we also used the common hot tub.

The staff is what makes this place shine! everyone is so lovely. Pilar is attentive and friendly without being imposing. Kitchen staff is super nice. Meals were creative, well executed, customized to your diet, and some of the best we have had in Colombia. The hot tub in room was lovely and worth the price. beautiful views. Richard was a great tour guide who customized a tour to our needs. I recommend an outing with him.

Nothing, everything was brilliant

Absolutely amazing stay at Sierra Alta. An absolute gem of a place. Pillar, Dani and the rest of the staff are so welcoming, thoughtful and informative of the area. It was a joy to stay here. The hotel is situated high in the hills and enjoys a spectacular view as well as spectacular sunsets. We loved the scenery and relaxing in the hammocks whilst watching the huge variety of birds fly across the hills. The hot tub was a joy after a day of trekking and enjoying an excursion to the local waterfalls. The social area offers a good chance to unwind and meet other travellers. Meals were superb! Our 2 girls loved playing with the dogs. Rooms are nicely presented and benefit from mosquito nets. We would love to go back again, was a highlight of our 2 weeks in Colombia.

Pilar and her staff are amazing hosts who make you feel very welcome. The property is absolutely beautiful with amazing views of the surroundings. A feeling of luxury and seclusion. The food is the best we have had in Colombia, home cooked with a new dish every day. We also really enjoyed the waterfall tour with Richard. If you are considering staying here, just do it!!!

The location was sublime and the property was very pretty and beautifully laid out with lots of privacy. Pilar and her staff couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. Breakfasts were really tasty with something different every morning and the dinners served at the restaurant were consistently good and always beautifully presented. Everything about the place feels special and I always felt cared for. Loved the hot tub!
