Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyUnfortunately, the walls of our room were very thin. Some visitors had early (eaaaarly) flights, so every morning around 4-5am, we were woken up by rolling suitcases. If you're a light sleeper, ask for a room away from the central corridor and maybe bring earplugs.
Breakfast was great, encountered first costa rican wildlife while eating made-to-order omelette. Quirky interior was refreshing in comparison to the many sterile, IKEA decorated hotels. Attached restaurant serves great food - fancy, but not over the top. Walking distance to other nice places to eat too. Staff are all very friendly, multilingual, and helpful. Thanks!

United KingdomWe were in the rooms on the courtyard behind reception which were a little noisy at times. We had to leave at 7 on the checkout day and we were told we’d be able to grab a little breakfast before we left. The restaurant wasn’t open at 7 when it’s supposed to open. They also stopped serving certain items before 9, when breakfast ends, the morning before. When we can to pay we were told our price in dollars and then given the price in local currency. The issue was the hotel exchange rate was close to 10% higher than the current rate. This is essentially just theft, you can’t make up your own exchange rate and use the conversion to manipulate guest for more money. You can’t get hold of dollars easily to avoid this ridiculous exchange. We ended up paying through PayPal where we still paid 5% more than booking.com said the price was.
The hotel was nice, quaint. The room was really large, the bed was comfortable and it was very clean. The breakfast was good with lots of variety.

What a wonderful property, quirky, original, lovely plants, so much better than a big box store hotel…

United StatesNothing I did not like. Some people may feel that it is a bit of a walk to the main sites in San Jose, but I enjoyed seeing the neighborhood and enjoyed the walking.
The breakfast was excellent, with lots of choices and freshly prepared eggs. The breakfast sitting area was beautiful---sheltered but open to the garden. The common areas were welcoming. The room was generously sized. The bed was very comfortable.

United KingdomSan Jose has some great sites to visit (eg Gold Museum and National Museum) but is not an attractive or safe-feeling city at night. Therefore the fantastic restaurant next door called 11.47 ( listed on the hotel website and with access from inside the hotel, but actually a separate business ) is a good reason for choosing this hotel if not wanting to walk far at night. However communication between the two needs sorting out - and would benefit both clients and businesses. My dinner reservation request via booking.com messaging was confirmed by the hotel but was not passed on to the restaurant. Luckily there was space, despite the fact the hotel front desk said the restaurant was fully booked ! Therefore strongly recommend booking dinner in advance, direct with 11-47. Hotel possibly may not be great for some children due to the more gruesome and enormous papier mache statues !
Unique hotel in historic buildings walking distance to the centre of San Jose. Quirky layout with rooms making the best of architectural details. Lovely garden area for breakfast plus additional sitting areas. Definitely a fun and interesting place to stay in San Jose if you don't want corporate-style uniformity. Fantastic restaurant next door called 11-47 is listed on the hotel website but owned and managed separately - dinner reservations usually required in advance. Strongly recommend contacting 11-47 direct via whatsapp for a booking +506 8449 3167. Kam Bakery nearby also great for coffee, lunch etc.

United KingdomAs with other reviews, it is noisy. We could hear the people in the adjoining room/hallway. and our room looked onto/adjoined the restaurant and there was noise until 10ish. So it wasn't a massive deal for us for 1 night but any longer would have been a problem. But I am sure the hotel could have moved us rooms if we were staying longer.
Great location, walking distance to the key sites and nice neighbourhood with places to eat nearby. Room was a good size and the hotel was quirky and fun. Breakfast was great, eggs cooked fresh and a good range of other bits. We were able to leave our bags for the day and use the showers before our flight in the evening. Staff friendly and really helpful.

IrelandThis is not a criticism but more of a FYI. This in an eco friendly hotel and the water is heated through solar panels. This means that if there is not enough sun there may not be hot water. During our stay one day was overcast so the water did not warm but the second day was sunny and the water was very hot and shower comfortable. Overall it was not an issue for us though.
The hotel was in excellent location, quiet street yet within short walking distance from main attractions. The room was very spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was very delicious and there was something for everyone to choose from. We really enjoyed the decor of the hotel and learning about various Costa Rican myths and fables through the art work.

United StatesOur first night was a bit noisy due to a malfunctioning ceiling fan somewhere outside our room, but the second night was quiet. Honestly, we had few complaints about this friendly, quirky, hotel. Love the art everywhere too!
Our room was not large, but it was quiet and comfortable. It included a small table with two chairs, which was perfect for playing cribbage at night. The breakfast deserves its legendary status! Many appealing choices.

SwitzerlandYou can hear from your room noices from other rooms and corridor but when you count with it, it’s ok and not a big deal. For both night which I stayed here it didn’t bother me and I could sleep well😊
The reception is open 24/7, so you don’t have to worry even when you come super early or very late, there will be someone at the reception to help you. They can arrange taxi driver from the hotel to the airport, who is cool. The bed is super comfortable and the hot shower comes with a bit of patience but it comes😊

SwitzerlandThe hotel really do what they say - they make your stay stress free. Even before the trip they communicated frequently and arranged taxi driver to pick me up from the airport. The taxi driver makes your journey very comfortable and safe to the hotel. In the hotel is the personal super friendly and in the morning they even prepared amazing breakfast sandwich for my journey as i left earlier before breakfast started. I would definitely recommend this hotel, they do amazing service.
