- The cylinders are really small and impractical. Very difficult to store things in and out. Good for one night only, then I suggest changing to a proper room - no working lights in the showers and toilets - cleaning could improve

- Big nice pool with good temperature and beautiful gardens - Cylinders are a cool concept with good working AC - Good WiFi - Warm showers - Quiet and peaceful at night and throughout the day - Great location! No loud music from other establishments as in the center. Yet it is walking distance to the center area - Breakfast available

We booked online and chose an oval sleeping area where a bed filled up the whole area , no AC for 2 nights. When arrivng and evaluating that we asked if there were netter alternatives. So we slept in a room with 8 beds which was not occupied I guess for the price of an oval. The last night we had to upgrade to a fullsize 2 King room with AC which did not work well, and had to pay for the upgrade an additional $ 88.00 since it was not sold out they could have let it go for say $ 50 extra. Room WAS good!

The location is good, the swimming pool very good and general area ok.

The cylinder was quite small. There wasn’t space to store your luggage (only under the bed).

We stayed in a cylinder room. In the room could only fit the bed. But the facilities for showers and toilets were big and clean. Perfect location for your stay in La Fortuna. A lot of nice bars and restaurants were walking distance. Really nice pool were you could relax.

The hostel plays music from 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM in the public/pool/lobby area, and it also reaches all the rooms. It can be hard to read or sleep on a rainy day (of which there were several during our six night stay)

We stayed in a spacious private room with two double beds. It was clean and comfortable. We opened the windows wide when we were there during the day and used the quiet AC unit at night. The pool area was very inviting, and the hostel is right next door to Bogarin Trails, a fabulous place to see sloths, birds, and other wildlife. The hostel is also within easy walking distance to Downtown La Fortuna with its many restaurants and appealing public square.

They only take cash for the tours. It's not so much a negative, but just an FYI: We booked a cylinder room for 2 nights and as the photos show, it is very tight for space. We had two suitcases and they did fit under the bed, but you had to keep pulling them outside to get to things. As it was rainy when we were there, we took out what we needed for the two days. The doors didn't close properly leaving gaps (more so about space for bugs to get in) and as there's no natural air circulating, your clothes feel damp all the time. The tents are bigger, but have gaps in the wooden slats they sit on so I would guess bugs can get in. Depends if that bothers you or not.

The pool area was a good size with lots of sun loungers. The cylinders are in a lovely garden at the back. The tents are in a covered separate area and the showers were hot - although not all the lights worked.

It would have been nice to have a communal cooking area to help save on money eating out all the time. You can buy breakfast and dinner for $7 a day, which is a little expensive but you did get a decent sized portion.

The location was good, the rooms were clean and you could have a hot shower which is not a given in most of Costa Rica. The staff were helpful in organising tours and transfers as needed. I had seen the hostel listed as a “party hostel” on some blogs but was pleasantly surprised at how calm it was. There was no music or noise after 11pm so sleep was not affected.

There could be more of a vibe like evening activities/events so that guests can mingle. We weren’t given enough info when booking a tour to mistico hanging bridges park that we would spend most our afternoon onboard a bus picking up people from various activities before we head to our activity, and we weren’t told the bus would bring us to the geothermal river so we didn’t have our swimming costumes with us. Finally the breakfast options were very limited, they ask you if you want to pay a discounted rate when you check in, on condition that you pay for breakfast for every morning you’re there, but then there was only half the menu available (no jam for the toast and jam option, no granola).

Great concept with the barrel rooms, great pool and the hostel provides help with booking tours.

Disgusting musty smell of all the sheets and towels which stunk up the entire room and almost made me throw up. Think if someone left all their laundry soggy and damp for days. This is a very easy fix to just properly wash and dry linens and otherwise was perfect

Beautiful and central to everything in La Fortuna. Sleeping in cylinders were so cool and made for a highly unique experience! They also had parking which was super helpful in a secure parking lot. A nice pool, cafe bar, and a really nice and well maintained compound. Also had good wifi. Staff were friendly. Overall very unique stay.

It was confusing to get into the stay when we first arrived.

Shared places not used much for unknown reason - expected some social interactions but it was calm place at the end. Dormitory rooms quite dark and not cosy.

Location is fine, common shared places are nice but not much used by other travellers (not sure why). Breakfast was nice.

Lacked some basic amenities like glasses/cups in the room, working drawers (the dresser drawers were non functional), bathroom lighting (one bulb over the shower, no lights near the sink) and a true struggle to get more than one towel per person from the front desk. They had a great setup for a poolside swim up bar, but it appears it hasn’t been used for years.
