The dinner menu was really subpar. It was incredibly expensive and sadly not tasty :( the breakfast buffet however add up for it. I would 100% recommend this place without a doubt- just skip dinner and go to a local restaurant nearby.

I absolutely LOVED this property. The property felt super spacious and big and the hot springs were nicely spread out and had more of a nature vibe then a "pool" vibe if that makes sense. The rooms are nicely spread out and there is parking right in front of your room so maneuvering luggage was super easy. I loved the back porch with a view to the volcano. Taking meetings was much more enjoyable then in your typical home office.

The hotel is enormous and clearly geared up as something of a “tour factory” which contributes to somewhat of a soulless atmosphere. However, the main issue was the condition of the room which was in dire need of refurbishment; it clearly had not been touched since being built. Everything needs replacing/updating: the furniture, the mattresses, the bathroom etc etc. There are multiple design flaws that allowed bugs to freely enter the room. Also, the walls were paper thin: you could hear conversations from the neighbours as if they were in the same room. Sad that the management continue to run the hotel without basic investment- as it could be something quite special- but as long as the tours keep rolling in I guess they simply don’t care.

This place is getting absolutely panned on Trip Advisor. Some of the criticism is harsh and some is spot on. We ended up feeling sorry for the staff who are clearly trying to make amends for the poor reviews and were unfailingly friendly and helpful; unfortunately there is little they can do about the condition of the accommodation (see below). The hotel grounds are beautiful with stunning views of the volcano. The hot pools are also lovely and it is ridiculous that people are complaining about the colour of the water; it’s normal for the water to be discoloured in natural pools. I’ve given an overall rating of 7 as the grounds and staff somewhat compensated for the room and we were only there for 3 nights…

We arrived to check in 15 minutes early. Our room wasn’t ready so we didn’t mind wait til 3- when they said it was done. It must’ve been shift change because a little after 3, the gentleman said it would be 5-10 minutes longer and his coworker knew we were waiting. 315. Perfect. The gentleman was checking in a family that just arrived. It was 3:40 and he was finished with them. I approach to ask about our room (being it was supposed to be done at 315) and he informed me it would be about an hour longer. That’s annoying we wouldn’t of cared if told that in the beginning, communication in the beginning would’ve been fine. Luckily we could go wait at the bar/restaurant while it was getting finished. The lock to our safe didn’t work well. We had to get maintenance to come out 3 times to fix it. The staff, isn’t the best or the friendliest anymore. That’s the only reason we kept coming back. We were served cold food at the bar twice, after waiting an hour. So did the patrons next to us with a pizza. No one smiles and when you can finally get a drink- you want to order 2 because it takes so long to get their attention. Morning Buffet is yummy but you have to wait for coffee. I was done with my meal before I could get someone’s attention. So, I’d get two cups because there was no way they were coming back to give you a second. Not sure if we will be back for next year, if we are, hopefully the staff is better.

We love La Fortuna and this was our third trip to this resort. The food was great in the morning breakfast buffet. It’s clean. It’s quiet. The Springs were nice. We had hot water, WiFi and AC.

Electricity and outlets were not working when we checked into our room. But within a few minutes after notifying front fest, someone arrived and started working on it. Fixed within 20 or 30 minutes. We would have enjoyed a couple of chairs in the room, but I guess there was not room. Those instead of the second bed would have been welcome. We did really enjoy the two rocking chairs on our front porch!

We loved the view of Volcan Arenal from our front porch of our room, and many other places on the property! We liked the thermal pools, the expansive gardens and green space, the helpful staff, the breakfast buffet, the beautifully presented meals in the main restaurant and the beautiful relaxing music played in the main restaurant!

The natural springs were nice, but we assumed they would have been much warmer. Still very nice to sit out under the stars and enjoy.

The location of the resort was perfect! Close to the town of Arenal and central for other activities. The grounds of the resort were absolutely beautiful with tropical plants. The staff was very friendly and helpful! Breakfast was awesome with lots of choices for everyone.
