Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomA male member of staff felt intrusive (trying to talk to me every time he saw me, even if I had my back turned to him to mind my own bussiness) and I felt uncomfortable as a solo woman. There was only 1 working basin for all-which not enough, need to fix the other one.
It has a beautiful balcony overooking green area. Is close to 2 supermarkets. Next to bus stop for going to Manuel Antonio park

CanadaWe stayed in a double room which was like a shoebox. It felt claustrophobic despite the window. The bed must be an old because it is creaky and uncomfortable due to being able to feel the springs. Solution: new mattress. Pillows are thin. Solution: giving 2/pp would help when trying sit up in bed against the wall. No bed side tables, only 1 overhead light, and 1 outlet in room. Adding hooks on the back of the door would be a cheap way to elevate the bedroom. The bathroom is very dated and has shotty repairs. No mirror and tap is loose. The shared bathroom was not cleaned for 2 days and was filthy from another guest tracking in sand and leaving behind hair. WiFi in the room works most of the time. A/C is VERY loud and medium strength.
Nice linens. Nice to have a small desk and stool in the room. Room and bathroom were clean upon check-in.

Ireland- The nights we cooked there, the kitchen was over run by big group of staff/family owner cooking a big meal for their family. Left only one hob for the other guests to share. Weird vibe with staff being in kitchen all the time, feels like youre intruding.
+ German girl on reception was friendly + Bathrooms and bedrooms were clean + View of forest from balcony, saw a sloth in a tree in the distance. + Pool table and breakfast nice. Toast with fruit. + Bus stop right outside to get to National park or to go elsewhere in Costa Rica.

United StatesAll good.
Clean. Tracopa bus let me off at hostel. Staff arranged a Manuel Antonio Park hiking tour that ended at the beach. A number of other tours to choose as well. Had a dorm room to myself! Teen group filled hostel the first night, then two nights with few guests. Grocery store with coffee machine nearby. Bus stop to Quepos across street. Bus in other direction to beach. Porches overlooking woods.

GermanyNo warm water in the shower, the beds were horrible. I stayed 3 nights and now my back hurts. The kitchen was well equipped but people didnt wash their stuff. Also the hostel should clean the fridge more often. There is no latter for at the bunk beds...we didnt have a bathroom in our room but I knew this before. No bed lights
Bus station to quepos and the national park is directly in front. The kitchen is open and if you're lucky you can see monkeys in the morning. The kitchen was big and the view also nice. Wifi was good and the size of the room was big, plus we had lockers. You can rent towels

GermanyIn the end, we extended our stay from two to four nights at the hostel and had an amazing time. All the staff members were super kind and made us feel like home. Everything important (supermarkets, beaches, the national park, Quepos etc.) is reachable by bus or walking. Next to the hostel is a small “forest” where you can observe sloths, monkeys and iguanas. We would definitly recommend to stay at this hostel for a trip to Manuel Antonio!

Costa RicaPoor Customer Service
I recently had the opportunity to stay at Hostel Manuel Antonio, a new player in the bustling tourist scene of this beautiful coastal area. As with any new establishment, there are growing pains, but the potential for a truly exceptional hostel experience is clear and present. Firstly, the location of Hostel Manuel Antonio is excellent, offering easy access to local attractions and the stunning beaches that make this area a draw for travelers. The hostel has a vibrant, youthful energy that is welcoming to guests from around the globe. However, there is one crucial area where Hostel Manuel Antonio must focus its efforts: customer service. In the hospitality industry, the personal touch can make all the difference. Currently, interactions with staff are hit-or-miss, with some employees showing genuine enthusiasm and others seeming a bit disengaged. Investing in customer service training and emphasizing the importance of every guest feeling valued would pay dividends in online ratings and word-of-mouth recommendations. Another point to consider is the payment system. As we move deeper into the digital age, the ability to process transactions quickly and securely is a must. The hostel currently does not accept credit cards, which can be a significant inconvenience for travelers who are increasingly reliant on plastic and contactless payments. Implementing a credit card system would not only be an improvement but a necessary step to cater to a broader clientele. Lastly, while the shared accommodations are a staple of hostel culture, maintaining cleanliness in these communal spaces is imperative. The shared bathrooms at Hostel Manuel Antonio require more frequent and thorough cleaning to ensure that all guests feel comfortable with the facilities. Attention to such details can greatly enhance the overall guest experience. In conclusion, Hostel Manuel Antonio is a hostel with a lot of promise.

United KingdomThe kitchen was so dirty, food and pots/pans with food inside not clean. Some of the gas burners did not work, and seemed very old and not super safe (when lighting one a huge flame came out). It just needed general maintenance and I think it would’ve been ok if the price was lower. For the same price we have stayed in fabulous places, the value for money was not there.
We had a private room and the bus stopped right outside so it was easy to get to the national park. Also super market next door. They stored our bags for us too.

SwedenIt says it has WiFi over the whole property, but it only works in the reception. It has a gate that they close at night, but whoever could walk in at any time because at the back it’s completely open. The gate isn’t locked either. I wouldn’t recommend it especially since you have to sit in the reception to use the WiFi.

JerseyIt’s a little bit run down and grubby. The fridge in the kitchen looks dirty and the kitchen itself is covered with insects and flies. The common area is also a little dated. There is a pool table but not a full set of balls and the pockets are broken. There is no pool as advertised on booking.com which was a shame as it is very warm and would have been useful to help cool down. There’s also only 2 toilets and 2 showers for the whole hostel, which wasn’t an issue when I was there as it was quite quiet, but can imagine as it gets busier it could cause some issues.
The host Alexander was really nice and helpful. He let me check in early for no extra cost and also let me leave my bags in the room after the checkout time as I wasn’t due to catch my lift until 1:45pm. The location is good as well, the beach is walkable and there’s a bus stop right outside the entrance to take you either to the beach, or on to quepos to connect to other nearby towns. There were also 2 very good sports bars nearby - one directly above and one a very short walk below the hostel. I also had an entire dorm room to myself for 3 of my 4 nights which was a nice bonus!

United KingdomThere is nothing to say other than it is an absolute dump and a disgrace to the hospitality business. Do Not Stay Here under any circumstances. The manager is intimidating to women and there is no security in place at all.
Do Not Stay Here! It is the most awful accommodation that I have ever stayed in anywhere and the management really don’t care about the customers at all. Once they have your payment they couldn’t care less. There was no hot water - and never has been. The bathrooms are filthy, there are dead cockroaches everywhere, the WiFi only works in the reception area. The rooms are like prison cells - actually a prison cell would probably be better. They any accept cash as they know that you cannot be refunded by cancelling the transaction yet they charge additional credit card fees to pay by cash! The room booking was cancelled by the management once the cash payment has been made so that they don’t have to pay booking.com commission. This business and their parent company VAL hotels are an absolute disgrace and should be suspended from advertising on Booking.com or any other platform.
