Excellent garden. Lots of poison dart frogs - blue jeans and green and black. owner very friendly and helpful. Lots of trips can be made from there to see sloths or green/red eyed tree frogs. Rooms have lots of space. Too much, maybe, for one person but everything you might need was there.

The room was spacious with 3 king size beds, very clean, and the manager paid attention to our every need. He also gave us precious advice on what activities to do in the area. The night tour to see frogs was excellent, and there were even animals to see during daytime.

Great place from where you can discover la Fortuna. There was a baby cot available and Leo was really kind. He was the manager, tour guide During the night frog tour, preparing delicious breakfast and even played a bit of Xylophone! There is a food delivery option from the restaurant of his parents in Town.

Everything about the place was great. Definitely the best place we stayed at during our entire trip in Costa Rica. The rooms were very big, kitchen was well stocked and the beds were comfortable. WiFi covered the entire location, both indoor and out had fast stable internet. Breakfast was also the best included breakfast we had we among all the hotels we stayed in during the trip. They try and give a slightly different variety everyday so that's really nice. It was lovely to have breakfast with a view of birds even though bird migration/nesting season were already somewhat over there still quite a lot of birds. Location was very nice as well, just a few driving minutes from the center of town but far enough to be peaceful and quiet which is exactly what we wanted. The thing that made this place special is Leo and his team. They really try to everything they can to make the stay a memorable experience. Make sure to talk to them and get their recommendations. All their recommendations were spot on. The free night tour was a great touch as well. We wholeheartedly highly recommended staying in Cabañas del Rio.

Away from downtown so was quiet but close enough to enjoy Fortuna. Leo was incredibly helpful and tuned into what we wanted from our stay, we followed his suggestions to see how Costa Ricans live as well as see some of the Arena sites. Has a pool to relax in after being out and the garden was home to many birds and frogs - Leo’s night tour was great.

It was all in all perfect. If we would recommend something, we would change the design of the pool and integrate it more in the natural atmosphere of the whole concept.

Of all the properties in this area and at similar price points, we chose this one because of their frog garden, and we were delighted. Our first night, the manager walked us through the garden with flashlights, pointing out the nocturnal ones, and then during the day, we'd pop out to spot the others on our own -- no special equipment or extra bookings required. The property staff were all kind, friendly and professional, grateful and excited to share their country with us, and demonstrated a great respect for the frogs and environment. The room was comfortable and well-equipped, and the location was convenient.

Wish there was a sidewalk the entire way into La Fortuna. However taxis were readily available and inexpensive.

I stayed here twice. The two rooms were very different but each was comfortable, cute and well stocked. I especially appreciated the spaciousness and air conditioning. Breakfast was good and the pool was a nice oasis at the end of the day. The front desk team always went out of their way to be helpful.

We absolutely loved our stay here. The apartment was perfect for our family. The pool was a lovely area to relax after a day out. Breakfast was great, with lots of extras. The garden was the most special part of our stay. We loved spitting the wildlife there and love that it was specially created to attract and give a home to wildlife. The free nightour was very enjoyable and informative. We wouldn't hesitate to return.

Fantastic stay in Cabañas del Rio! The apartment was spacious, comfortable & clean. We appreciated the night tour and saw many frog species. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The manager and staff were very friendly and welcoming and will steer you right for the best local tours. It is about 5 minute drive from centre of La fortuna but if you don't have a car you can get a cheap uber!

I didn't appreciate that the location is really not that close to restaurants and shops. It would be nice to have at least a minibar available at the hotel or some snacks to purchase on premise.

The staff were exceptional, very friendly and helpful. The room itself was well equipped, including kitchen. We enjoyed the outdoor area, garden and pool as well and were happy to be able to use it after checkout (and before leaving for our next destination). Breakfasts were tasty too.

It is located about 20-25 minutes on foot from La Fortuna. Especially when it is dark I wouldn't recommend to go on foot, because you have to walk next to the main street and it could be dangerous. Taxi is a better option and doesn't cost that much.

We really enjoyed our stay there. Especially because of the staff. They helped us immediately every time we needed something (and there were a couple of such incidents). The breakfast is a highlight as you can watch a lot of birds eating fruits. The night tour at the garden is also very interesting, as you can see a lot of night creatures. The apartments are really huge (at least for two people) and they are also equipped with air condition. The swimming pool looks really nice but we didn't have the time to use it. Very quiet place and looks like a small village.

The room wasn’t ready at check in time. The young boy that is in reception until 6pm (before the owner arrives) is not very knowledgeable and wasn’t able to give good recommendations about the area.

Our stay was very comfortable. The cabin is nice and clean, with aircon; bathroom is clean and shower is big and pleasant. The breakfast is very tasty, best rice and beans we had in Costa Rica. The owner is a very nice person, he gave us the night tour around the gardens and shared insights about the area.
