The rooms are located far from the parking area, there golf carts that are staffed to bring you back and forth if needed, or you can walk. This is not a complaint, just pointing out that if you dont take the staffed golf carts you will be walking a little bit to get to your rooms which I enjoyed.

The grounds were excellent, the room is very spacious with good AC. We also had a private hot tub on the deck which was nice. Breakfast was awesome and the entire staff was excellent. When booking I read complaints in the reviews about the difficulty of finding the hotel and getting through the gate initially. If you have google maps and have the brain capacity to figure out how to push an intercom button at the fount gate with a sign pointing "PUSH FOR ASSISTANCE" you will be fine.

The only thing I did not anticipate was the volume of the nearby river. It added to the experience of being in a rainforest type setting, but it is something to note if you are a light sleeper. The only other fault I could find was the quality of the steak I ate from the on-site restaurant. It had an unusual flavour that did not resemble any steak I’ve had before, and I eat a lot of steak!

The seclusion of our little bungalow was fantastic for privacy, and the size of the bungalow made for a very comfortable stay. I was impressed with the amount of facilities in the bungalow and the layout made it easy to spread our belongings out to re-organize. The hotel grounds were lush, beautiful, diverse plants and trees. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The on-site restaurant has a magnificent view of the Arenal volcano. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to any of my friends or family!

There was nothing I did not like about the hotel. If I had to comment on an inconvenience, it was that walk up to the reception or restaurant. After the first day, we called ahead and met at the room with a ride in the golf cart.

I work in the tourism industry in Guanacaste. Everything from our arrival to check-out was five-star service. My son and I traveled for a soccer tournament. The staff, rooms and food were incredible.

the gate was broken when we stayed and it took us about 10 minutes to get let into the property. this was not an issue but was nerve-wracking while we were waiting!

absolutely loved my stay here. the staff was so wonderful, the breakfast was outstanding (as was dinner at the restaurant/room service) and the rooms were stunning. the pools were really nice as well. we appreciated how easy it was to contact the staff.

The. Virtual property management will try to charge you standard rate if you ask to extend your stay, even though the comparable suite is available for 30% lower on booking.com. So book the entire trip on line instead of on site -you will want to stay longer than planned.

What did I like? Everything. Such lush, beautiful landscaping, resort property with parking near your suite. Clean well designed modern rooms, microwave, fridge, coffee station, rainfall showers, lots of closeting, secluded patio with private Jacuzzi. Not to mention the open air restaurant with an incredible view of the volcano, a varied Menue with great options at competitive prices. Amazing breakfast included. A tranquil open air spa by a pond for massage or facial, and exercise, basketball and soccer equipment in the sport area & 2 lovely salt water pools Best of all was the phenomenal staff. Charming front desk manager Haywar attended to all our needs. The maitre'd and restaurant staff were so welcoming and attentive. Surprisingly fabulous.

This place was so nice, I decided to extend my stay by contacting the virtual management. They offered the extension only at the standard rate, which was 40% higher than booking.com for the same exact room with jacuzzi. I reminded them of the slight maintenance issue that kept this up all night, and still, they still insisted they would downgrade our room. So of course the internet price sold out during the discussion, so we booked a regular room on booking.com to avoid the massive increase. They came into a room while we were on an all day tour and moved us to the downrated room. BUT Even the downloaded room was lovely, so I couldn't get myself to give a bad review.

What did I like? Everything (except for 1 glitch) The place was far more beautiful than I expected. It was extremely secure, had beautiful landscaping all around, a wonderful restaurant area overlooking the volcano, the rooms were comfortable, modern, clean and very well designed. And all of the in-person the staff was phenomenal. Haywar the front desk manager was charming and accommodating, relaxing open air setting with fabulous views of the volcano at the restaurant was complimented by an extremely attentive maitra d and wait staff. Dinner choices were well thought out, beautifully presented, and very reasonably priced. An exercise room for my son with sports facilities, and a serene open air spa for massage and facial for me. My only recommendation would be to book this through booking.com. for the entire stay, because you will want to stay longer.

Quite a long walk into the town centre, 15-20 mins. Can get a taxi which is cheap. We were there 4 nights and it would have been nice to have fresh towels and the bin emptied during this time.

Incredible facilities, like a 5* hotel vibe! Pools waterslide, jacuzzi. There is a spa on site and the ladies do wonderful massages for very reasonable prices next to a lake by candlelight in a very idyllic setting - highly recommend. The place feels deserted even when there are other guests. We saw monkeys and toucans within the grounds. Breakfast is fantastic, there's a good local restaurant a few minutes walk away. Enormous comfy bed, sofa, balcony. Did feel like we should be paying double what we did!

New expanding hotel with teething problems. The area is behind the fence (which is good as it gives you privacy and safety) but it was difficult for us to get in upon the arrival as nobody was responding to the bell. Also we were waiting for 30 min to someone to come and pick up the keys upon our departure (reception was still under construction), we missed our tour because of it. Stayed for 3 nights and did not have cleaning even once. No changing wet towels in such humidity is not an option. While people working in the hotel are very nice and responsive, you still need to improve the service - cleaning, check-in and check-out.

A very beautiful place in the forest, very private. Nice rooms with own outdoor hot bathtub. A pool you can enjoy without crowd. There is a shared kitchen you can cook, if needed.

Since it is a fairly new hotel, there are still a few kinks they need to iron out but overall I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. And look forward to going back.

This hotel was absolutely gorgeous and amazing. The grounds are spectacular and the rooms are incredibly beautiful. The staff are super nice and accomodating. The pool area is like a resort. And the breakfast was pretty yummy. We especially enjoyed the live music at breakfast, that was such a treat. I cannot wait to go back

There seems to be no real area to go for check in or service. We did have some difficulty getting someone to let us in initially (it is fully gated)

The grounds were spectacular. Beautiful. More to do there than we had time for. Everyone we encountered were so very friendly and helpful. The sounds of the river lulled us to sleep. The breakfast was deli and the coffee… soooo good. Our kids loved the salt water pool and the water slide was very fun! Very safe, gated and right across from police station (but we never felt unsafe in this area.)

The property feels somewhat in a transition as they expand. Wifi occasionally didn’t work and the only way to communicate with staff is via WhatsApp. No front desk or reception to go to. There is no restaurant or bar, although they serve delicious complimentary breakfast with eggs from the chickens that live on property.

Very exclusive and private, yet you are a short drive or walk to downtown. Each unit is hidden among tropical plants with the sounds of the river which border one side of the property.

While I wish I could write an overwhelmingly positive review of Casa Del Rio, I cannot. We paid a lot of money to stay here for two nights. It was supposed to be us splurging to treat ourselves to two nights of luxury, but we were disappointed. We felt somewhat dismissed by the employees when we had issues in our room. There was also no information in the room, so we were confused about several things, such as how to order food to be delivered (it was pouring rain outside and the hotel is not near any restaurants) and where facilities on the property were located (they really need to provide people with a map). We had an issue with our AC where it would randomly stop functioning for awhile, and then it would eventually start again. The machine would literally just freeze and go blank for anywhere from one to ten or more minutes, with no response at all to the remote control. This was really uncomfortable in the middle of the day when the temperature and humidity was very high. Two of the employees kept brushing us off as if we had simply pushed the wrong buttons on the AC remote (this wasn't the case; I've had AC units like this in my apartments for years, and at no point have I ever dealt with issues like this). Also, there were high windows on the bathroom and shower room which were far too high for us to reach and close. There was also no way to latch the windows shut. An employee pushed the windows shut for us when we first arrived, but the air pressure just re-opened them. I asked for someone to please wedge something in the windows to keep them shut (the rooms weren't sealed off from the rest of the unit, so that meant that warm, humid air kept flowing in around the door gaps). Both of the employees said they would do that, but no one ever came to take care of it.

We enjoyed using the main pools as well as the personal jacuzzi on our room's patio. Our room had nice decor. The breakfast had many food and drink options.
