Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyThe room we stayed in was quite noisy due to road traffic. Other than that, all was great.
Our hosts were super friendly and helpful, there’s a nice seating area outside which we could use. Good location for exploring the city.

AustraliaThe noise from the passing tram is quite loud but you get used to it.
Patrick was really nice at the front desk and was helpful in providing some suggestions. Great location if you want to spend a day or two in San Jose, especially if you want to visit the national history museum.

United Kingdomwater and shower was a hit or miss. Nothing come out of tap when they were using washing machine. But as I went to talk to them, they fixed straight away and I was able to use the water and shower. On other occasions, water power was very weak. The shower was another thing, it ran for 30 secs, then stopped for 30 secs, then it would start and stop again. I couldn't report it once I got wet. For the fear of water stopping half way, I didn't dare wash my hair during the 2 nights stay. A fridge, even comunal would have been helpful. It was right behind the train line. The train whistled a lot. It didn't bother me, but it can to some sensitive people. The room was no sound proof. I could hear snores from other rooms.
not far from Tracopa bus station, not too far from Tuasa bus station, near China Town for meal, and 4 km each to walk to the west or east for city tours, They had luggage storage facility before I could check in and after I checked out. Friendly owner couple.

United KingdomBathroom door didn't lock but didn't really bother us 🙂
Patrick was very helpful and booked us a taxi from the airport and again to the bus station. These both went very well and made our first few days in Costa Rica a lot easier. Warm shower. Location was excellent just a block away from the national museum of Costa Rica which we could see from the bedroom window (well almost, we could see the park in front of it).

United StatesNo soap in bathroom, no place to put things in bathroom, no cup-even a paper cup would've been nice to have. It wasn't mentioned that there is a train track 50 feet from the house. No place but the bed to put suitcase.
Owner was wonderful and very helpful. It was easy to walk where we wanted to go.

United StatesThe train noise is real, and it will roll through a few times each evening and in the early morning. That said, it's not a bad trade-off given the location and proximity to attractions.
The owner, Patrick, was kind and helped us settle in. He answered questions and was able to accommodate our early morning departure. The room was clean and we the shared fridge in the hallway was a nice amenity.

United StatesThe area is a little sketchy. Right on the train tracks and the first train goes by around 4am every morning which shakes the whole house.
Patrick was very accommodating and kind to us. While it is not in the nicest area of the city, there is a front gate that locks as well as the front door.

AustriaThere is a train track along the street so from 7 am to 8 pm you may hear the trains passing by, didn't bother us though.
The location is simply perfect, it is just a few steps away from the Central walking street and city center, almost across the street from the Jade and National museums, and several eateries within 5-minute walking distance. Unfortunately, we couldn't enjoy it in full as we only stayed overnight, but I would recommend it. The rooms are very simple, but spotlessly clean and have all the facilities. Hot water in the shower. No a/c, just the ceiling fan but we didn't feel the need for the a/c to be honest. Patrik s a very nice and friendly host, and speaks German which made it very easy for us to communicate. Also, and his partner gave us good recommendation where to eat when we arrived late in the evening.
