Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyThe stuff was super friendly and prepared the best casado we had during our trip to costa rica (have to try the homemade chilie sauce). Also unexpectedly good was the included free frog spotting tour. Even though the chalets were rather tiny they felt spacious and were indeed very private. This is definitely no 5-Star Hotel but as best as eco-friendly individual tourism could get.

United KingdomThe chalets can get warm in the evening, and may be a bit small for some people.
The chalets are in a beautiful natural environment with lots of wildlife - more than in some wildlife walks. Staff is fantastic, especially the chefs. Really great and affordable.

United StatesI somehow missed that the bathroom/shower was outside and we would have to share it with our neighbors (and sometimes the frogs 😂). It turned out fine, though. Just not what I am used to. Be sure to bring your own shampoo!
It was so fun staying out in the middle of the rain forest. The frog tour and the breakfast were amazing. The hosts were very kind.

United StatesWe had a lovely 3-night stay at the Chalets. It's a great quiet spot tucked away in the jungle, but an easy drive to La Fortuna. The family that runs the Chalets is wonderfully warm, welcoming, and helpful. Their home-style breakfasts (included) are delicious. We liked them so much that we decided to eat all of our dinners there, too - they were the best price/value we found in Costa Rica. The A-frame chalets are pretty basic, but we were expecting that. Again considering price/value, we were quite content. And we enjoyed the simple nighttime frog tour (included) and got some amazing photos.

AustriaA mirror in the room would be great.
Eduardo and his Family were very kind and helped out with anything I needed. The place is very peaceful and in the middle of nature. It’s a little bit outside of the village - I recommend a car to get around. I recommend the typical breakfast, which was delicious and also dinner was a delight.

FranceNothing. I guess there's bugs but it's to be expected.
Eduardo and Cires (the owners) were absolutely amazing. They were super nice, helped us with advice for our stay whenever we needed it and just overall made the stay a great experience. The included breakfast (made by them) also super tasty and they served a generous portion. Also it's possible to get your clothes washed (they even folded it) and they provide towels. Great value overall. The chalet is simple but very nice, you go to sleep and wake up with the sounds of nature. The free frog tour in the propriety is a nice extra touch, you can see how much they care about they're land and love nature. It is more than just a frog tour, it's an experience to learn about a different way to look at the world (at least it was for us).

United KingdomNot a complaint, more a suggestion. More/some hooks, or even some nails, on the wall. Our clothes were soaked from the rain and was hard trying to dry things.
Really cosy, emerged in nature. Even the 24hrs of rain was made more enjoyable by listening to it from the room. Super friendly staff and the night tour was amazing, saw lots of different frogs and a snake. Breakfast was really good, 2options and was fantastic watching the wild birds whilst sitting eating it. Need a car to travel to&from the accomodation

United KingdomThis is a family-run business who cannot do more for their guests! All of the staff were so lovely, helpful, and informative about nature including giving us fruit picked from the trees! The breakfast every morning was delicious (defo go for the typical Costa Rican breakfast) cooked by the owners. We also ate from their restaurant which was YUMMY! Thanks to Chalets Silencio , we had a perfect stay with you! The nature here is breathtaking, the flowers, trees, fruits and so many animals!!! Note that the location of the lodge is outside of downtown La Fortuna but it was perfect for us as that's exactly what we wanted for two nights before moving to a downtown location :)

United StatesThere wasn’t anything I didn’t like.
How exclusive it was and what was included in the price. As you ate a delicious breakfast, you not only had a very warm and welcoming atmosphere that included seeing so many types of birds (including a toucan) feasting on bananas. In the evening, a frog tour that entailed a leisure walk around the beautiful property. So many birds and so many frogs!

United KingdomA snall thing but the cabin could use some mosquito screens which would enable guests to sleep with the windows open.
A unique and special place away from the busyness of la fortuna, right on the border with the rainforest. Lovely owners who give a night tour of the gardens where you can see lots of frogs and the occasional (harmless) tree snake! Absolutely loads of wildlife and birds!! Nice breakfast. I would highly recommend a stay here for something a little out of the ordinary.

CanadaI liked staying here :). You might find it nice to bring a flashlight or headlamp for your stay here, but definitely not essential. (I had one with me and used it getting in and out of my cabin after dark, but you'd also be ok without)
Edwardo was excellent. He happened to be available and took a little bit of time after dark to explore around with me with flashlights looking at frogs and bugs. I loved it. If you put more effort into your Spanish speaking skills than I did, I bet you'd tap into an absolute wealth of knowledge chatting with him. Breakfast in the morning was super good with great birdwatching right there! I'd definitely return, and I'd definitely recommend to a friend.
