We went to get a coffee in the morning before we left for our 6 hour trek to our airbnb and there were like 10 empty dirty cups on the table. Not a single clean one.

- One of the showers was just a dribble and the other one was a single, strong stream. - Cash only on check in

+ Prívate room was nice and big. Fan to keep cool but was not really needed when we stayed. + Bathrooms were clean + Able to use facilities in partner hostel. Kitchen was good and nice pool. + Quiet and felt safe

There’s not much around the area - a 10-15’ walk to Barrio Escalante which is more lively (and seemed safer).

The guesthouse is supposed to be a quieter place than the backpackers but there was a large group of students staying in the dorms of the gh this time: they made lots of noise late at night leaving and coming back. One of them threw up in the trash of the dorm when coming back ...

Windows had no net to prevent the insects coming in and no fan in the rooms when it gets hot

You may use the kitchen located at the backpacker's section of the hostel. However, the kitchen is much smaller than needed in view of the amount of guests. Furthermore, little investment has been made in the kitchen equipment. If you get a room at the guesthouse, make sure it does not face the main street. At night it can get very loud if somebody decides to throw a party at the street. Apparently that is allowed as long as no alcohol is involved. In Costa Rica, the right to party prevails over the right to get a sleep.

The rooms are spacious and the beds comfortable. Good light and ventilation.

March 2024 - mixed dormitory and shared bathrooms are simple (that’s a good thing!) spacious and clean. Comfy bunk beds and spacious lockers next to each bed without rumbling when using it in the middle of the night. Functional outlet and a lamp at each bed. Thick curtains assure your privacy. Breakfast at the dining area is conveniently available for 6 bucks and provides all you need for a good start. You have access to free coffee or tea throughout your stay. Outdoor areas provide some space in shade/sun & a hammock. Great place if you need to start your next trip from San Jose. Desk people are very friendly and will help with whatever you need. Thumbs up!

Train passes right by the hostel multiple times throughout the night. I’m a deep sleeper but it woke me several times. Toilet paper frequently missing from bathrooms.

Towels provided for free. Free coffee. Large lockers in the room. Safe location. Pool area is nice.

When I arrived for check-in they were not able to accept credit cards because their payment terminal was not functioning. I wanted to pay with card but this was not an option and they refused to let me check in to my room until I paid. This was extremely frustrating because I was low on cash and they did not know when their terminal would be fixed. I waited for sometime and then finally gave in and reluctantly paid with cash. Again, this was frustrating.

The bed was very springy and uncomfortable. We were on the ground floor and there were a lot inconsiderate people staying above that stomped around constantly. People were also being really loud in the corridor and shouting until late. Someone's child was screaming and crying in the hall late at night for a long time whilst the parent just sat on their phone. It was very noisy in our room unfortunately.

The service and attention at the front desk in all 3, the co working, the guesthouse and the backpackers...they all seem either annoyed of doing their job, when one asks a question is just ignored, a joke or with a tone of voice which is not the best. Personally it seemed they just didn't want to explain things and were always running around. Especially 2 young Girls who were at the co working space didn't care at all what was happening they always responded they don't know, there's nothing to do and to a poor gentleman who had an issue in his rooms they didn't want to help at all and joked around about it. One should hire kindness and helpfulness but they do otherwise. I had paid a shared room with 6, ended up with 8... The noise is way too much you barely sleep as the trains passes by, location is not the best if you arrive too tired or traveling solo

It is not a soundproof accommodation as mentioned in other reviews but with earplugs it was no issue. The location is about 500m from downtown and this walk at night felt a little exposed although i was told there are no reports of hassle or worse in the area and all was fine indeed. The local drinks at the backpacker bar are surpisingly expensive but I believe they allow outside drinks should you be on a budget.

Competitive rates. Helpful staff. Knowledable Tour desk. Several Nice lounge areas. Free coffee. Spacious room and good bathroom.

Only problem is the train nearby, that starts early early in the morning and blasts its siren at every crossing. Impossible to sleep through, but obviously not their fault!

Wonderfully friendly and helpful staff- thank you! Helped me download Uber, learn how to use it and even booked an Uber to the bus station for me. Fantastic to be able to use the backpackers next door to swim, chill in the garden and even use their kitchen and fridge. Well situated within easy walking distance of Avenida Centrale and many of the places tourists want to visit.

Didn't get the temperature in the shower to work... my partner did though so it must just be me :) maybe include clear instructions in the shower how to regulate the temperature?
