The bathroom need a little help. A lot of little flies on the road. I understand that it is in the middle of the forest, but they should look for natural fumigation options.

Steep roads to get there

Beautiful setting and big glass windows everywhere made for great wildlife viewing. Loved the early morning quetzal tour.

The bungalow we stayed in was easily accessed, well equipped and had great views. Food was excellent and the dinning room has feeders close by attracting a range of birds and squirrels during the day and racoons at night. Guided tours were very good with a wide range of birdlife including some great quetzal sightings. Local restaurants also good.

Very steep, uneven path to our bungalow, not suitable for people with mobility problems - but you are in the Cloud Forest!

Excellent breakfast, we also had dinner, the presentation was excellent and the food was cooked to perfection, the best meal we had in Costa Rica

There wasn't ever anyone around in reception. We had to ring a bell and then wait for someone to come. The service in the restaurant is extremely slow. We waited one hour for our food to arrive having booked for 6pm and our food arrived at 7. Not all the rooms are as nice as the ones we had initially. We stayed on an extra night and had to move rooms. The second room was old and tired and was a bit disappointing.

The woodland setting is superb. The hotel consists of a number of small bungalows spread out within the woods. Each bungalow has full floor to ceiling windows looking out over the steep woodland valley. Our bungalow was very new with underfloor heating, a rolltop jacuzzi bath and a rain shower. The toilet was separate. There was good wardrobe space as well as a fridge and kettle. You are free to walk in the steep woodland grounds of the hotel. These lead down to the river which is approximately 200m below the bungalows. There are some bird feeders outside the restaurant which also as full floor to ceiling windows all round. The breakfast was very good. We did both the quetzal tour and the long (4 hour) bird watching tour. There were 14 of us with one guide on the quetzal tour and hundreds of others with their guides trying to see the same quetzal. The next day on the bird watching tour there was just the 2 of us with the guide and we saw 35 birds including the quetzal. If you only have time for one tour go on the bird watching tour.

Bathroom and bathtub could’ve been cleaner. They both had a bit of dirt and hairs which is not nice to look at. Pillow cases also smelled a bit funky. Nothing that can’t be fixed by chatting with reception! They provide excellent service

We stayed at the “Superior Bungalow 2 person Forest”, view is amazing, the balcony is perfect to sit down and chill. It’s a nice walk from the reception, nothing too complicated and has a bit of lighting to make it better at night.

Beautiful view from our windows, you can’t beat waking up to that! A very peaceful setting, good for relaxing and getting away from it all. There was great food in the restaurant. There were nice trails around the hotel to explore. Staff were really helpful and kind all the time. The hotel is in a great location to spot many beautiful birds. We had some amazing food and coffee in the village of San Gerardo de Dota also. It got chilly in the evenings and we enjoyed using the ethanol fire to make our room nice and cosy!

The food wasn't that good at breakfast time. Room 3 was hot and AC wasn't working properly. Missed AC in our sleeping areas in room 11 Also, a bit more light in the trails during the night around outside decks would've been great but beyond this, we can't complain at all.

The hotel was more than we expected. We were in awe of the scenery. Magistic views that connect your inner with the world. We were a family group of 10. Out of the three rooms we rented, the best was the #14 with an amazing deck and lovely mountain sight (and a great bathroom). The staff was really nice and helpful. Driving through the Panamerican Highway and going down San Gerardo de Dota is one of the best trips you can take in Costa Rica. But overall, Rio Saavegre is a true star. It's a must.

The room was not very well insulated and it felt very cold during the night. At the same time, the blanket was too thick & too hot

great trails for hiking, including some very difficult ones. As a birder, not the best in the area to actually see birds, but the open areas around the hotel provide very good viewing.

unique, boutique like atmosphere. fantastic jacuzzi in room. staff and service excellent. food was unbelievably good for such a small place; probably the best we’ve had anywhere in CR, including much larger, more expensive properties.
