Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

BelgiumNohelia (host/owner) is very friendly and helpful. Wonderful (typical local) breakfast and diner. Beautiful garden, full of animals and with a nice viewpoint. Guided night walk is certainly something you should do. A bit remote (from the tourist hotspots), but definitely worth the detour!

The breakfast was very good, freshly made every morning! Location is in the jungle, away from crowded places. The host, Nohelia, was extremely helpful and accommodating The night walk in the jungle was the highlight of the stay

United StatesI guess the only thing was no window screens or AC in our room.
In 8 places we stayed all over Costa Rica this was perhaps the best overall experience. The host/owner was probably the greatest component of that but the food was delicious, location beautiful, trails and wildlife were abundant and it felt safe. Our host was so knowledgeable and helpful. We learned so much. Definitely buy the optional dinner. The road is a bit bumpy but we made in a cheap econobox rental with zero ground clearance.

NetherlandsWe planned a roadtrip in Costa Rica, which means we only stayed for 1 night, which we deeply regret. The stuff, the location, food were amazing! We arrived just in time for the night tour at 6pm. After the 2 hours tour, we had delicious dinner and had a good night rest in our room (HUGE bed - says a European :D) We really loved what they made out of the space, it is pure paradise and you can connect with nature - I'd recommend at least 2 nights or leaving later in the day on the next day, so you can enjoy the trails on the farm. You need a 4x4 to get to the location.

FranceOur 3-nights stay at Cecropia Ecolodge was absolutely lovely. We wouldn't have dreamed of a better place. It's a little paradise, where we could relax and disconnect. The garden and forest are beautiful. The night tour is worth it. Being able to watch the lovely birds of Costa Rica (toucans, motmots, woodpecker...) while eating breakfast has no price ! Jay attended us in every way possible, he's really kind. Thank you for everything Jay, pura vida !

United StatesBeautiful little place in the rainforest filled with love. Amazing trails to walk. Even though this is a rainforest, it is warm as the trees are the canopies protecting you. We were welcomed with coffee and fresh juice. Nohelia’s breakfasts and dinners are amazing, very creative, and absolutely delicious. We enjoyed the birds at breakfast including the toucans. Nohelia gave us excellent advice for where to go for hot bathes and also the hanging bridges. We enjoyed the night tour although missed Jay as he was away. Nohelia pours her love into this place and spends lots of time with her guests.

United StatesNot spending more time there!
The owner J was welcoming from the get go. He is very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna on the land. He and his wife (who was away when we were there) steward the land in such a beautiful way. Breakfast is served in a covered outside area where they put out fruits for the birds on branches. What a sight it is to watch their beauty so close to us. The room was quiet and spacious.

We loved everything about our time here, such a special place, run by a very special couple who are passionate about the environment. Clearly they have worked hard for 10 years to restore the habitat and in doing so they've attracted mary species of birds and animals. This is a very special place. To add to our enjoyment their home cooked food was delicious. Highly recommend staying here if you enjoy the local environment , they have guided walks and this very much adds to the experience

United KingdomSoundproofing between adjoining lodges could be improved as our neighbour snored very loudly. Also on our last day, just as we were leaving the lady in the head scarf smacked the brown dog really hard which was distressing for the dog and for us. Not acceptable.
Gorgeous location and gorgeous owners. We enjoyed the pretty touches, the tasty breakfasts and the nature trails. We saw loads of beautiful birds. Overall its a credit to the owners and we would recommend.

Really liked the hospitality, the nature around it and the food. We felt very welcomed. The nightwalk was incredible and we saw as much in that night as we saw in all the other costa rican nightwalks combined. Also very nice to watch the birds right from the breakfast table. SwitzerlandNothing, truly nothing
It is by far the best place I've been to in Costa Rica. My advice is, if you want to explore the volcano area, don't stay in La Fortuna town but go to Cecropia lodge. Contrary to La Fortuna town, this place is just a true oasis, so quiet, peaceful and authentic. You immediately feel like home thanks to great hosts. The bungalows are very pretty and not in the artificial Instagram sense, but truly nicely blended into the green surroundings 💚 Big thanks to Jay for the incredible night tour when we learnt so much about different animals and we even got to see couple of snakes. So don't hesitate, do the night tour! The food was also very delicious and healthy. When I was leaving I felt sad that our time in Cecropia Ecolodge has ended. Last 3km is a dirt road, but it's totally doable. And true to be told, whenever you want to stay somewhere not in the town in Costa Rica, you have to get on a dirt road. So it's nothing unusual. Don't get discouraged :) Thanks Jay 🙏🏻 Marlena & Martin

AustriaWas a bit tough getting around without my own car but even there, Jay and Nohelia were super helpful and even organised my taxi/ shuttle for me!
I absolutely loved the time at Cecropia lodge. Jay and Nohelia have built such a beautiful get away in the middle of the jungle and they are making you feel like a part of the family immediately. I did a full-day tour with Jay where he explained every single animal in the National Park to me, would also recommend doing the night tour with him where you see snakes, frogs and other reptiles at night, planted a tree in their huge areal and really enjoyed Nohalias cooking and warmth as well! The room was really cosy, loved the hammock in front of it and also the "mirador", the viewing point a bit higher up overlooking the entire area. 10/10 recommendation for everyone looking for a hide away in the jungle and doesn't mind having to drive a bit into the next town or to the national parks/ hot springs.
