The bathroom design is really awkward. The shower has frosted walls one of which faces the bedroom, so basically you are showering in full view of the other guests. That was awkward for us as a family of 4 with two teenager daughters, and we ended up having to take turns in the room. Also, there is no door to access the bathroom and another frosted door to the toilet.

Excellent location, perfect to spend a few hours in San Jose. The hotel is just across from the national theatre and just around the corner from Plaza de la Cultura. The breakfast was excellent with a wide selection and served on the top floor with a view of the city.

a rather chic hotel, well kept, with perfect facilities; the suite we occupied was really very comfortable, very spacious and very pleasant to live in: an ideal establishment to recuperate from a sublime but exhausting trip, just before taking the plane back to France!

We had dinner at the restaurant but were disappointed in the food - very salty, steaks were overcooked and the drinks (old fashioned’s ) were very sweet.

Property was very nice, good location, staff were very helpful - bed was very comfortable.

Price of food. Breakfast is WAY over priced! We ordered room service for dinner and it was good and not as overly priced as breakfast.

Everything but the price of breakfast! We were standing there the two of us and asked the price. The waiter said $37 and we said okay and ate. It was delicious! We he brought our ticket it said $74! We were shocked! It was $37 each! Ridiculous! I literally paid $37 for a bowl of cereal, fruit, plantains, and some eggs! My fiancé paid $37 for French toast sticks, coffee, and some plantains! What a ripoff!!!! I probably will not stay again just for this reason.

The best location in San Jose. Centrally located-- very walkable. Have stayed in three hotels in San Jose. This was by far the best. The room was beautiful. The staff was very helpful. When I return to Costa Rica, I will be staying at the Gran Hotel.

5-star hotel, but one pet peeve is the powdered/gross eggs in the buffet. Likely saves $ but gives a 3-star feeling. Mattresses are quite hard, but that's personal preference. Shower unfortunately is 'rain head' above but that makes it difficult to wash, needs a wand.

Perfect location, safe and very walkable. Hotel has a great mix of old world and modern convenience. Staff were lovely and breakfast buffet was very good (assuming you have time to order eggs)

Tiny window in room doesn't open for fresh air or afford much of a view. Furniture crowds the space. Bathroom doesn't offer adequate privacy unless one doesn't mind sharing visual space when showering or using toilet. Frosted glass isn't enough - there should be a bathroom with a door and a wall that blocks view from the room.

Comfortable beds, friendly staff, great breakfast, excellent central location. Quiet.

Surprising lack of vegetarian food in the hotel restaurant. Only mushroom soup and mushroom risotto. We ate out every evening because of this.

Location. Bed excellent - slept like logs. Shower fabulous. Room itself was perfect. No noise from adjoining room. Breakfast was also excellent, food for everyone.

Eating dinner at the hotel was outrageously expensive - over $100 for a couple of mediocre entrees and one glass of wine. Lots of more affordable options with delicious food nearby.

Location, location, location! Convenient for walking to museums and downtown restaurants, shops, etc. Hotel nicely remodeled with modern decor and amenities. The free breakfast was outstanding - wide selection of food and beverages.
