Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyThe rooms are small, but very clean and everything was there. I did not expect more because it is not very expensive! So, all you need for a night or two :)

BelgiumWalls give you the privacy to yawn but not to sneeze. Intimacy is recommended only for the true exhibitionists. Pray that your next-for neighbour snores not. Ours didn’t and we woke up rested with more cash in our pockets to spend on fun stuff than if we’d chosen a needlessly fancier place.
Not entirely unpleasant as friendly staff and near-by snacks and breakfast places make you feel at home in this budget stay. It was not dirty, but hardly clean either. Lack of air-con was ok, as the room was quite fresh, and the rain on the roof of the upstairs room reverberates and gives a cosy tent-feeling. Electrocution from the shower is highly unlikely but not impossible. Security feels good behind entry gate even though the rooms' doors are less than robust. Our review is a couple's cute vacation review - and we happily got through this as our worst stay of the trip (some place has got to be it) still without having had a bad experience, nor did we regret staying here. Our motives were budget and location. If we had been solo back-packers, though, any negative aspects would have mattered even less.

Costa RicaThe hotel is not in the best neighborhood, but the place is very secure in itself, and there are restaurants very close, so there is no need to walk far at night to eat. I went to a place right across the street, and all was good :)
The people are very nice and helpful. The room is simple and comfortable.

United StatesSomething kept shaking the room, like a small earthquake. There was also a lot of noise from the room next to me and it sounded like there was construction going on. However, it was still pretty good.
The hotel was very nice considering how little I paid. I did not expect it to come with a TV or for the room to be as clean as it was. I also slept very well and there was plenty of storage space. El Descanso is a wonderful hotel for solo travelers or couples in San José.

CanadaThis is a perfect clean, no frills, dorm type room which we wanted for several nights on arrival and eparture to Costa Rica. It is perfect location, a street off main st and a 20 minute walk to Avenida centrale where the famous mercado centrale is. Bank and grocery store 10 minute walk. Kind staff. They arranged our drive to the airport which was very fair price compared to airport “taxis”. This is family owned and it’s nice to support that.

CanadaAll good!! A hint about the Bank of Costa Rica. We stood in a long line outside, but a security guard asked our need. In changing currency he walked us 4 minutes to another bank area that did solely that. So don’t wait on a teller in the main bank. find a nice security guard.
there was no breakfast. This was a little dorm type room with a gem of a staff, and in the best location. It was immaculate. comfortable bed. allowed us to get our feet under us after long flight day from Canada. It has a very safe neighbourhood and easy walking distance to bank for money exchange and to Main Street with kind crowds, restaurants, fun tourist shops. VERY safe. Watch your bag, but no more than any big city. The owners of this hotel were very attentive and helped my husband book bus tickets to Tamarindo as well as instructions on where and when to book tickets. we will come again before our flight home. Many thanks to these kind hosts.

United KingdomThe only bad thing about this hotel is that at night you can hear a lot of noise from the street. It would not be bad if they renewed the sheets and towels, they seem to be many years old. Otherwise, all good
The room was clean, cheap, and for one or two nights it’s ok. The receptionists were friendly and if you asked them something they help you. Under the hotel there is a Soda that is cheap and the girl is very nice.

United StatesI didn’t like the plastic covered mattress makes it slippery when sleeping.
It was clean, quiet and inexpensive. The staff was friendly and helpful. I especially enjoyed watching CNN which is the first time in a month and a half I’ve had a TV show that English version channel. there are several inexpensive eating places, and a small market nearby that opened early 6:30 AM, probably for the nearby hospital crowd.
