How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The main road is extremely loud. Noise starts about 5am

I was here for a night stopover and had to leave early the following morning for a flight so they organized breakfast for me to go. The room was comfortable and the location was good. Thank you for being so accommodating.

The bathroom had no place to store toiletries and the water pressure in the shower was not very good.
I thought it was very good value for the price. I like older buildings with character and this small hotel had a lot of charm. Nice picture window overlooking the park. Beautiful tile floors. Very good breakfast was provided, much nicer than at expensive hotels. Great location for a clinic where I had appointments, and a safe upscale neighborhood.

Windows need cleaning but the inside of the building was clean. It is on a busy road but the noise wasn't too bad with the windows closed and there was very little traffic at night. A bit of a walk to bars and restaurants but there is a supermarket a few doors away and only 10 minutes walk to the airport bus stop.
We had a big room with huge windows overlooking the park. There is a kitchen with fridge and microwave on each floor although no kettle or hob so no way to make coffee in the morning but breakfast started at 7 so that was OK. The breakfast was really good with lots of choice although I was disappointed the jams/jelly were North American rather than the local ones that are so tasty. Friendly staff.

I had trouble getting into the property. This was a very basic, small room. The lighting was poor and there was no updated technology. Also there was no elevator.
Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Hairdryer had to be collected from Reception. Fridge and microwave were not in the room but a communal area outside.
Hotel location is excellent. Beautiful park opposite and walkable to Downtown San Jose. Buffet breakfast with good variety to suit everyone. Two large comfortable beds.

Some of the rooms are facing the very busy/noisy street.
The staff was really attentive and on it. Accommodations and rules were clear cut.

Bed was extremely uncomfortable and old. It’s a shame the host doesn’t invest money in something so basic and essential for a room.

It is rather unfortunate there are no definite front desk hours and no dedicated front desk or hotel workers (the building business is shared with the restaurant, which seems to be the principal business), and because the door is locked most of the day, it gives the aspect the hotel is permanently closed. We feared for a few moments we had been victims of fraud.
The location of Hotel Columbus is exceptional, the value for money is incomparable. The building is an old, cozy, quiet antique house. The ambiance is great.

The water flow is small

I had very specious room, quiet, nice stuff. Very friendly. They gave me coffe even after breakfast hours. There is a supermarket on walking distance, few rental car locations.

We room is somewhat small, not a complain as we did not need more, just to be awere. The restaurant at first floor is excelent and a bit pricey, the balance is good enough, though
The view to the Sabana park is so good! We had to take our flight very early in the morning, they set an alarm overnight (as usual) and the staff was there on time to deactivate, nice. The room we got had AC, nice touch too. Breakfast was included but we didn't use it

The rooms and furnishings are very dated. Not necessarily a big deal for us, but worth letting others know that there is no elevator here. The shower and faucet had low pressure cold water.
Appreciated the breakfast (primarily continental, with a food warmer of gallo pinto and eggs). The place has the charm of an old church. Great value.
