How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Water happened to be out all night and some of the morning, not the hotels fault. Water outages happen sometimes in Costa Rica

This place is more like an apartment than a hotel. There are no rules or regulations. People were playing loud music and talking loudly during our stay until 2 in the morning. The walls are thin, so you can hear the noises. The comments from others complaining about a lady who worked there are very accurate. She was not good at answering important questions. Overall, my experience was decent.
I'd recommend anyone to stay for a day since the place is affordable, but be careful of the surroundings in this area. The locals and Uber drivers suggested not going out at night due to homelessness and individuals engaged in drug use.

We stayed 2 nights, and we really missed some daylight in the room. If it was just for one night, we wouldn't have minded that much.

Electrical recepticle near bed did not work. Had to plug into wall near shelves and clothing rack. Bed mattress too firm; should be more plush and not as stiff. Need to get rid of elongated toilet bowl. Too difficult and tight to get through to the shower.
The staff that checked me in was top notch. The room was actually very nice, sizewise, bed (maybe a bit too firm) and pillows nice and hypoallergenic. Ample clothes storage space throughout. Bathroom good but like many San Jose places I've noticed, elongated toilet bowl cramps space and too close to wall. Intermittent water issues, on then off majority of day. But could have been the public utilities working on maintenance. Big drawback with this hotel is the busy street noise. However, like many other reviewers stated, use good ear-plugs and you can sleep through the night. Was only out in the neighborhood in the daytime hours. I would advise NOT going outside the hotel past dark however; undesirables run amok. But price paid security inside very good.

Location was a bit sketch walking at night, but we weren't spending a lot of time here so wasn't a problem.

A bit noisy during the night because of the busy street next to the hotel. If you bring earplugs with you it's not a problem though.
Good value for the money. Convenient location and very friendly staff. We arrived earlier and we could leave our luggage in another room (our room wasn't ready yet) and go sightseeing in the city.

For female solo travelers: this hotel is great however the zone is not the best. There is not an ATM close by and there is a market, homeless and drug addicts. Not recommendable to walk alone at night or early morning. If you take an Uber, you can go anywhere and is cheap.
Very nice staff, friendly and helpful. It has good WiFi. Spacious room and hot water.

Super busy area of San Jose to be in
Good location. The host was super friendly and helpful; after a party went on next door she let us move to sleep in a room above and it was such a relief as we had to be up at 5:30am for a tour. The TV also worked and was able to get English audio which was cool when chilling in evening.
