Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Very good! The guy at the front desk (so sorry I can't remember his name!) was very helpful with booking tours/activities for us! Definitely book through La Choza as they can offer a better price than booking on your own. We did the Northfields Coffee, Chocolate and Sugar Cane tour which was amazing! La Choza called them and set up pickup from the hotel with no issue at all. We also did the whitewater rafting and visited Baldi hotsprings - all SUPER easy to book and well worth it. Room was nice, aircon was super strong, wifi good, tasty breakfast. Very short walk to the main park/square and lots of restaurants. All around good place to stay,

United Statesthe water in the shower was FREEZING. It was basically impossible to take a shower. Also, the mirrors in the bathroom are way too high for someone who is 5 foot tall. please lower them.
I liked the staff, the laundry option, the tour options, the free shuttle bus, and the location

NetherlandsGreat hostel. Very cosy, social and relaxed vibe. Reception is great for helping with excursions (so many options!) and the unlimited shuttle for $20 is very good. i stayed in a private room and it was great. Good breakfast included. 100% would recommend!

United StatesCash only for everything, we almost got burned for that even though it says card accepted online. Also beds were old spring mattresses and the pillows were literally smaller than a travel pillow.
Free breakfast with pretty good Gallo pinto. There's a cat that you can pet sometimes.

United StatesIt lacked comfortable places to relax most of the seating was hard surfaces and while there was hammocks due to the constant off and on rain they were usually damp or not even up. Dorm was very small and the pillows smelled very strange.
The free breakfast and free once a day shuttle to the hot springs was my favorite. The air conditioner is always a plus though only on 10pm-6am In the female only dorm. Kitchen was decently stocked though small and could definitely use an additional fridge.

Costa RicaWe really wanted to visit the hotsprings, which was the only reason we booked the hostel. Wouldn't reccomend it. If you book, one free shuttle is included, only 1 pm and then the driver picks you up again at around 3pm. Nobody told us this before and in total you only have around 1.5h in the Hot Springs (really nice river!). The timespan was incredibly short :( The driver for our ride back to the hostel left 5min prior to departure time, so we missed our shuttle. At the tabaccon river, there is no internet connection, so we neither could call the hostel nor a taxi. We were dissapointed the driver left too early! The staff at the reception was not nice, you got the feeling they didn't want to give answers to questions (e.g about bus connections or activities) We spent two nights there, one in a 6bed room and one in a private room. The bunk beds were old and not really comfortabale, the private room was much nicer. The general problem with the hostel was: they advertised the shuttle, but we really expected more, because they did not tell how short the time there was and if you only took the shuttle oneway, you had to pay 20$ per person, which is the normal price for every shuttle available in town and then you would be much more flexible!
Accomodation to Sloth Walk Path (highly reccomended) is only a short walk . The breackfast was good. Private room was nice.

United KingdomI was in a 10 bed female dorm and there was only one toilet for us all (unless you count the extra toilets which are in a different building across the courtyard) which I though was a bit limited. Cooking area is a little cramped if more than a couple of people want to cook at once.
Good location, set back from the main areas so it was pretty quiet which was nice. There is a nice garden area and lots of places to sit and relax. The breakfast was excellent! staff are really friendly and helpful if you need any support and are able to book transfers, tours etc for you.

United StatesThe room smells heavily of musk, a common issue in Costa Rica. They attempt to cover the smell with strong chemicals while cleaning, which makes it even worse. The layout of the bathroom is awful, feeling very cramped and nearly impossible for two people to be in at once. Feels dirty, even though it is "clean" and has some mold. The air conditioning worked, but it was very annoying to deal with as it seems like it is nearly broken. The lighting in the room is awful, there are no lamps, just one main light in the bedroom and a bathroom light. We used our flashlights at night to create a nicer night time atmosphere.
The private room had a nice little spot to sit outside. There is a locker. Location is good, just outside of town where it is quiet and still very close to town center. The main staff member we interacted with was not so pleasant, and preferred sarcasm and looks of confusion instead of being helpful.

SwitzerlandOn weekends it can be a little bit noisy because in the area there are some restaurants and bars which play loud music. But for us it was ok.
The hotel staff was very polite and helpful. All the tours can be booked at the reception and for 20 $ you will get a unlimited shuttle service to five destinations around the volcano for the duration of your stay. The room was clean, the breakfast was good (classic Costa Rican breakfast) and the location of the hotel is nice as well.

United StatesRoom was really bare minimum - I was on the top bunk and there was no outlet, light, shelf, guardrail or curtain. Each dorm room shares one bathroom, which is never clean and is too many people for one bathroom / shower. Overall, it was expensive in my opinion for a very low quality hostel.
Good location, nice breakfast in the morning

ArgentinaEverything thing was great, the only small thing would be the shower in our room. It had either boiling hot water or plain cold, you weren't really able to regulate the temperature. As soon as you switched on the cold a bit, it would just go all cold. Other than that, we absolutely loved it.
The place was spotless, great location and lovely breakfast, even better than the pictures. Román was great and always ready to help with anything, so was the rest of the staff.

IrelandThe beds were uncomfortable and the showers were cold. There was also a dog running round that I saw both pee and poop inside the hostel. The common area and kitchen smelt like dog. Definitely not worth €15 a night. The female dorm has 10 beds and 1 bathroom...
