Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe were there for a few days so living out of a suitcase- maybe a fold out rack to put a suitcase would be useful.
We had a lovely stay ! It is a family run business.. You can tell how the owners are so proud of their business and work hard to enhance and expand on what they have… When we first arrived we were assigned a little cabin with a balcony that overlooked this natural jungle area , it was great but just too small for us. When we told Juvenal he upgraded us to a much bigger villa for no extra charge. He also recommended tours in the area.. I highly recommend the La Fortuna Waterfall, North Fields Coffee tour and the most amazing Caribbean Winds safari float along the river .. We felt very welcome and comfortable, and loved the beautiful grounds. There is a lovely walk you can do and feel immersed in nature. It is also very close to La Fortuna and all the activities. Highly recommended!

CanadaI like good coffee in the morning. I was expecting good coffee in Costa Rica. I haven't had one yet. The room needs a bedside table light.
It's a little gem in the jungle. It was rustic, but it had the basics. Away from the town but still close enough to access the stores and services. The owner changed our room to a bigger one with AC without additional cost. Very nice and friendly people. Tried their best to accommodate our needs.

CanadaNeeded more places to put our luggage and hang things up.
The bungalows were well maintained and clean. Surrounded by foliage so it felt like we had privacy and beauty off our balcony. A nice little trail around the property where they do night walks. Breakfast was lovely and the staff were helpful. They booked us a great coffee/chocolate tour (Northfields). We also saw toucans on the property. Not too far from fortuna. We had a car so easy to get around.

Nestled on the edge of the rain forest, very quiet, very welcoming and gracious hosts. Could take night nature walks from the front door of the cabin. Delicious Tico breakfasts.

United StatesGorgeous rooms. We enjoyed the surrounding jungle with birds all around. The tico typical breakfast was great and all of the people at Arenal Rustic Lodge were accommodating, kind and warm. Coffee to make in the room was a special treat to drink on the beautiful balcony. Location was an easy drive to all of the places we wanted to go, while feeling remote as well.

United StatesBooking.com shows the cabins within short walking distance of the La Fortuna Waterfall at the base of Arenal volcano, when in fact, the cabins are several miles east of the waterfall on the south side of La Fortuna. However, the cabins are in a quiet, calm, pretty tropical forest setting above a creek, and we as able-bodied walkers could walk to swim at the swinging rope swimming hole up the road about a mile. Fix the Booking.com map, convince Interbus to reliably deliver and pick up clients, and everything would be good. If you travel by your own car, there's parking at the lodging.
Many features of this lodging are very nice if you are looking for quiet tropical forest surroundings. The cabins are situated just into the edge of tropical forest just above a creek, so the tree canopy view off the deck from our cabin bedroom was very nice (our particular cabin was elevated into the canopy up a flight of stairs, while other cabins' doors are at ground level). We saw a number of birds, some agoutis and a monkey in the surrounding forest or garden areas of the property. The owners tried to help us by picking us up where Interbus dropped us off in town, and then made sure that the next Interbus picked us up at our lodging when we departed a few days later. The included breakfast was good and was served on a patio where we could watch birds on the flowering plants and banana feeder. Internet worked, to keep up on our communications for work and others elsewhere. The owners arranged a couple tours for us with other businesses, so we got to see the waterfall, hike Arenal to see birds and a sloth, soak in a thermal spring river, and do a night walk to see various frogs and other animals. The owners were friendly to chat with about their local area, and their little white dog Blanquita was the affectionate mascot. We could walk from our lodging to a couple small markets down the road to buy food for the fridge when we didn't want to eat at a cafe in town. We walked to the swinging rope swimming hole about a mile up the road and went swimming. While the forest surrounds the cabins making it feel like your own private sanctuary, the Arenal volcano can still be seen to the west while walking on the road near the lodging when it's not cloudy. The owners were responsive to our needs and tried to make our stay a good one.

United StatesA few more hooks in the room would be appreciated for coats near the entrance or in the bathrooms for towels. We enjoyed the deck and wish there was a screen or mosquito net to keep the door open for some fresh air.
This property is run by a Costa Rican family that works hard to keep their visitors happy. They are warm and welcoming and built these adorable cottages. I loved the deck off our room that looked over the lush green ravine, we enjoyed a glass a wine while it rained and coffee every morning there. The rooms are basic but clean and we appreciated the fans offered to keep us cool. The greenery and beautiful tropical flowers on the property were very enjoyable. Traditional breakfast always got our day off to a good start!

Wonderful location and extremely friendly staff. The owners are super friendly, even though we struggled in our communication a tiny bit since we don’t speak Spanish and they don’t speak much English. 10/10 would stay here again!

United StatesA little gem close to the center of La Fortuna, but not too close. We had a superb, authentic experience in the rainforest in a new and very comfortable little cabin. We slept so well with the birdsong at night, and discovered some big turrico birds in the morning. The host Jubinal is incredibly kind, and he and his wife served us an excellent breakfast with fresh fruit, corn tortillas, and toast, and eggs. I would recommend this place to friends. The small bungalow has a lovely balcony & very comfortable bed. The place is super clean and there is excellent water and coffee available in the room, too.

United StatesIt's a little tricky to find, the cabins and main house/office is set back from the main road, like a little narrow alley that leads maybe 25 meters to the facilities. But well Wirth the effort.
This was a very nice place. The cabins were wonderful, quiet, and overlooked the garden/wooded area, a great view. The patio was excellent, view was very peaceful and beautiful, and even had rocking chairs. Our host, Juvenal, was terrific, very helpful, and gave us a person tour of the extensive garden and path area through his property. The breakfast were delicious and plentiful, they will even cook dinner for you if you don't want to venture in town.
