Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Switzerland-
Fantastic. The bungalow was super cosy. We had imagined it would be much simpler. There are enough blankets for the night when it gets cold. The bathroom was also super neat and clean. The garden is beautiful, with lots of flowers that attract the hummingbirds. The food in the restaurant is fantastic. There are huge portions that are fresh and delicious. The staff are incredibly nice and helpful. One of the best accommodations we have stayed in Costa Rica. There are various hiking trails from the accommodation into the cloud forest and to waterfalls.

Great little Tico family run place. David is super friendly and helpful, and catches trout from their lake for the restaurant. We had dinner here and it was well priced and tasty. Lots of hummingbirds!

GermanyOnce you're no longer under the blankets, it's quite cold in the morning since the little fan heater doesn't do much
Lovely place with a very friendly and helpful host. The cabin was very clean and spacious and the bed was far more comfortable than I expected. I was not too cold at night, the extra blankets were very helpful. The location is great, not only do lots of hummingbirds buzz around the property, but it's also very close to Miriam's Quetzals, a great spot for birdwatching.

United KingdomDavid is the most pure human on Earth. All of us should strive to be more like him, and channel his purity through our actions, values, and thoughts. We should capture David in a net (nicely) so that scientists can clone him. If the world becomes populated only by David clones, then the world will become a true paradise. He brings a cosmic balance to the universe, the actions of all bad people is offset by his existence and his radiating good nature. Also, nice place

CanadaNothing could have been improved!
There is something just magical about Las Cataratas Lodge. The five guest cabins are cozy, private and have wonderful views of the mountains. It is a family-owned business and David (son) and Bernard (father) were welcoming hosts as well as our chefs. Their food is made to order and absolutely delicious! The property has its own hiking trails with a river and two lovely waterfalls. The property is a bit above the village of San Gerado de Dota and we did drive down into the village one day, where most of the other accomodation is - we found we much prefered the location of Las Cataratas Lodge as it is high on the mountain instead of down in the valley so it has much better views.

SwitzerlandCute little place with beautiful gardens that allow you to see the hummingbirds. David and his family are super nice and very helpful. There’s a filter coffee machine in the room which can be used to boil water for tea, and the rooms are comfortable with plenty of blankets because at 3000m above sea level the area gets cold at night. We ate dinner at the lodge once and it was reasonably priced. Good walking distance to the other places around for bird watching and food. The road is steep and a normal vehicle is fine. No need for 4x4 in December.

United StatesIt is quite far to walk 3.5km to get to the lodge. Also add another 1.5hours of drive from Puerto Jimenez. Having more signs would help the guests to find the lodge along the way.
It’s the most remote lodge from the road so you would be getting privacy and pristine environment.

United StatesI have been traveling Costa Rica for nearly two weeks now, staying at Bed and Breakfasts and cabins across the country. This location has been my absolute favorite, by far. The cabins are basic, but they bring a close comfort to you. I felt incredibly relaxed and was fully able to enjoy their quiet. Surrounding the cabin are a couple of hiking trails and a few small gazebos. You could hike to a couple of waterfalls or settle into and watch the constant comings-and-goings of the hummingbirds. The breakfasts were the best I've had in my travels so far. The dinner was also delicious. I found this spot a wonderful quiet oasis to connect with the wonderful flora and fauna surrounding me. I can't recommend it enough.

SwitzerlandI stayed in the cozy hut for 1 night and I loved it. Its surrounded by nature and a lovely place. David is very friendly and helpful. You can eat breakfast and dinner there. This village is a great place to spot Quetzals. I havent seen one in the Nat.park Quetzal but I saw one in the village, at the end next to the school. The money for a tour is worth it, otherwise its very hard to spot Quetzals. And definitely stay at this accomodation. Great value for the money!

United StatesNot that there was anything wrong with the stay or the property, but just wanted to warn other guests to come prepared for the cold! It's easy to think Costa Rica is always warm, but this microclimate requires dressing for cold weather. As long as you're prepared, you will love your stay. Treat yourself to this little gem in the cloud forest!
David, the proprietor, was fantastic! He made us feel very welcome and always had such a friendly, warm presence. The location is great as well.
