((( SORRY for the Negative comments; But they need to be addressed! ))) The Smoking area is next to Tortuga bathroom window that doesn't close nor have a curtain...= people will hear you using the toilet (sometimes giggling)... cigarette smoke smell enters the room.. and hear them Talking most mornings and nights. 1 of 2 bedroom windows can close. But it gets to hot without airflow. This rooms 2 windows are along the wall of parking area... cars going in and out; loading and unloading luggage at all hours in the night some days... And... this room is also by the kitchen. = some inconsiderate people being loud cooking before 6am; or Late night after bar. The camera doorbell doesn't work. = if anyone outside Rings the bell at any time of the day or night... reception clicks button for the security gate to open; without any idea of who they're allowing inside. Billiards table is so not level, the balls all roll to one side... pool sticks are broken... Every day: Marijuana, papers, bags, cigarette ash, and/or loose tobacco was all over the common area table and seating area... Smoking weed and cigarettes in the "No smoking common area" was completely acceptable; EVEN in front of the Hostal's Owner standing there... LASTLY, UTTERLY IDIOTIC: The HOSTAL OWNER Alvaro has his Medium/ large size adult Dog Totem; unsupervised, and roams around the common guest areas. NO WARNING AT CHECK IN... just a piece of paper taped o wall; often unnoticed by guests... says TOTEM WILL BITE YOU, IF disturbed while sleeping or he is tired... The 1st day I arrived, minutes later, the dog was walking over, and NO signs of Aggressive behavior, TOTEM moved in like he was going to sniff... BUT instead, suddenly BIT MY HAND HARD! I immediately Notified the staff and was told: "Yeah he bites people sometimes, just be careful!" (Dog bit Me + 2 other guests during my stay there.)

Mostly volunteer staff, but all very friendly and willing to help. Communal social spaces need improvement but good to socialize. Gated, large parking area on-site. Hostal in a great location and very safe area. Staff were Very flexible with arrival and departure times.

I think they have a problem with little black ants (they don’t bite) but they were occasionally crawling all over my bed. I had no food in my room and they were still appearing. I didn’t mention it to the staff because my stay was short and I otherwise liked my room so didn’t want to move. The day I left there were ants crawling alllll over the toilet bowl in the shared bathroom (i have a photo of this)

I was looking for a quiet few last days before flying home and this hostel was the perfect vibe for that! Super comfy and quiet private room, great location in a safe neighborhood to walk around and explore, good food options nearby… the kitchen is also well stocked with appliances and utensils, and there’s a beautiful patio to relax / hang out.

One of the beds was very uncomfortable to sleep in (single) and one of the walls looked like it had been peed on or thrown some kind of liquid. Also, when we first opened the room it smelled like humid and I’d have liked a fan in the room.

It was chill, a space for everyone, clean, generally comfy, and the kitchen and bathroom were big!

The shower was not hot. After a long trip it was a bit disappointing but I understand it may not be an issue with the warm weather.

Hostel is next to a very loud road. Sometimes extremely loud. But the hostel is great. I would stay here again. You should consider putting an electric kettle in the kitchen.

Really nice place. Outdoor seating is good, and the billiard table is great. Wifi everywhere. Comfortable bathrooms and hot water. Kitchen is good, if you want to cook for yourself this is a good hostel. Morning coffee is a nice touch. The staff is nice.

There were roaches in the kitchen. Didn't want to use the appliances and dishes because the roaches were everywhere.

The staff is really friendly. They were available at early hours at the desk and were able to accommodate our requests. The space is warm and inviting. They have a pool table and a movie night running when we stayed there.

Showers were only with cold water.

Room was spacious compared to others we stayed in around the country. The hostel has a games area with table tennis and billiard, free to use. It was fun to use.

Mean unorganized Costa Rican manager who did her best to keep me up at night As she is the only bad thing this place had, I have quite mixed feelings about how to review this place because she didn't let me sleep when I made it clear to her I had been robbed and I ended up in a hospital. However, I decided to leave only one bad review and other ones good as I had bad experience on the day I was received by that distasteful lady.

Everything is clean, everyone but the Costa Rican manager is extremely friendly, the place is located in a good area and the German and Austrian volunteers are the best

Some staff speaks no word english but acting like he understood what I say. I nearly missed my 170 $ tour because he said car is waiting downstairs and put me in the taxi, which belonged to my roomate who had to go to the airport. Taxi driver of course 0 english too even though I showed my tour ticket he drove me off “to the bus bus terminal where he thought I have to take a bus myself to that city” Also walk to the city center is like 30 min. And my first room was on the noisy street I changed to more quite but sleeping on a bunk bed above was not that comfortable but better this than cars on the street.

Helpful and friendly staff. Pool table tennis table in the lobby very cute doggy living there too. Shower was ok warm water even though some previous reviews said it was cold.
