Service was friendly but could be improved by training staff to know the difference between making sure customers are seen to and being pushy. A few times, we felt like we were being pressured into spending more money. The spa was shut for maintenance. Treatments were offered in the room at a reduced price, but it was still disappointing not to be able to use the spa and I think the hotel should do something a bit more creative in the meantime, such as treatments on its private beach (we had this at a similar hotel in Costa Rica). The room was lovely overall, but a few small touches were missing for such a luxurious place at this price. First, we were surprised that there wasn't a bath in such an enormous bathroom. We're from Europe, where baths are standard even in most non-luxury hotels: perhaps there's a cultural difference and baths aren't as common in Costa Rican hotels? Second, the wall mounted TV didn't rotate/tilt so that we could watch it from our bed. Felt like an obvious oversight. Third, why was there an enormous Hi-Fi from the 1990s in the room which didn't work?!! It didn't ruin our stay but was kind of weird! Fourth, we had to call reception for bathrobes. Again, in a luxurious hotel at this price, they should come as standard. Fifth, some of the "hidden" areas in our room hadn't been cleaned fully (e.g. behind the desk/dressing table).

Makanda is a very special and luxurious hotel. Both pool areas are a 10 out of 10: incredible views, loungers, bar area and so on. The rooms are generously sized with incredible views, giant and very comfortable beds and some other nice touches like swinging chairs on the huge balcony! The food was expensive but not offensively expensive, and it was the best we had in Costa Rica. Especially the sushi and other seafood. Staff were also friendly and helpful. The abundance of wildlife is amazing too.

Nothing to complain about. We didn't have Wi-Fi for a day or two in the villa but management made every effort to restore it and even replaced the router and ran new cables to our villa. The villa is very secluded and private so I can see why when the internet goes out it's complicated. We appreciated all their efforts. They even sent a brand new Bose speaker system for us while they fixed the internet issues.

Pictures don't do it justice. Book this resort you won't regret it. Views are amazing. Staff was incredible. Anything you needed they made happen. They are on time with everything and there to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The resort was really breathtaking. We had breakfast with monkeys and sloths would hang out in the trees in the afternoon while we took a dip in the pool. The villa itself was a smart house and extremely clean. Even staying in the rainforest you would think there would be a fair amount of bugs. Maybe one or two outside but never saw one inside the villa. That tells you how thorough their cleaning team is. Between Management (Leo & Jenner) and the crew/waitstaff (Andreas!) this resort is top notch. No complaints whatsoever, just wish we got to stay longer. Would 100% visit Makanda again.

Be prepared for walking in very steep paths, when not using the golf carts. A lot of geckos around the rooms at night.

Breakfast was delicious. Whole property is gorgeous with amazing views.

The inclines to get around the property are very steep. Not a big deal because you just call reception and they will have a golf cart to your room quickly!

Everyone at the hotel was extremely nice and helpful. Jonathan especially! He helped us out when we had a little issue with our room and got it taken care of for us. Christopher and Andreas [sorry if I spelled it wrong] were great bartenders! These guys helped with taxi's and recommendations for restaurants. Just ask. They're there to make sure you have a good stay.

Very steep and slippery after the rains… take good walking shoes for that purpose only… but that’s not enough to detract from all that is great!

Located on the outskirts of the town it was a $10 taxi ride anywhere you needed to go. Beautiful facilities with much thought put into the design and building of the hotel. Our room did not have a great view, I wonder if that’s because we booked via Booking.com?? But the staff were incredible, the food was delicious, the couples massage was amazing, the cocktails very more-ish!!! Of course, the resident sloth at the salt water pool was an absolute treat too. We were able to thoroughly and totally relax and enjoy the spoil that is this place by the sea. PS it’s not really by the sea; there is a rocky beach with a delightful stream flowing into the ocean that can be enjoyed… but “by the sea” is more about the view.

The private beach was very rocky, made it difficult to get into the water, you need to bring water shoes. Only one restaurant, it took over 1 hour to get our food. I recommend the staff letting people know when ordering what the wait time will be so your not irritated with the long wait.

The shuttle service setup through the resort from the hotel to resort was really expensive. Literally double the price of any other shuttle service. Would recommend finding another shuttle service to get to and from the hotel.

Roads were slick and on incline when it rained. A few guests slipped and fell. Only thing I would like to see, since it gets dark early there maybe a way to have more tv channels other than just Netflix

The description has a bathtub in the room and I had my mindset of the bathtub, but there's only a shower in the room. My overall stay was great. I was just a little disappointed that I didn't get the tub that I had originally expected, but overall, I love the place.

Everything was perfect. We did not want to leave the place. The room was very nice. The bathroom was huge. The views absolutely breathtaking. Staff was incredibly nice and friendly. Food was awesome. A semi private beach made you feel like being on your own beach. I wouldn’t change anything.

Makanda is the most amazing place I've stayed in my life. We celebrated there our honeymoon and it was beyond every expectation the staff is highly professional and welcoming. The food is fantastic, the pools are gorgeous and the rooms and the views are spectacular! Thank you Makanda!

There wasn’t as much ocean view was we were expecting. Our room was a little musty even though the air conditioning worked well. The outdoor patio had fake grass and it was wet/soaked and has some wildlife poop on it. There seemed to be a drainage problem that made everything feel very wet. We stayed at 3 different hotels in 3 days in Manuel Antonio and this felt the wettest / most jungle rain soaked. Golf cart transportation = steep walkways so it was better to ride since walkways were pretty wet even when not raining. Everything shuts down at 9 or 10, so it’s an early party, early to bed type of vibe. The DJ pool party and sensual vibe made up for it.

The pool and lounge area was very cool and unique. The decor was full of cool textures and great style, or at least a very different style than most of Costa Rica. Bathrooms were gorgeous and huge. Beds were very comfortable. Restaurant food was great and our waiter was so nice. In general, the Staff was very good.

Unique style of hotel with scattered rooms in a big area full of gardens. Great views from the room and the room itself was amazing, really big and beautifully decorated! It certainly exceeded our expectations
