Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesOur room on the second floor could use a bit of renovation and at the least a fresh coat of paint. The worst of it was that shower head looked very dirty, there were some mildew spots on the ceiling, and our room was missing a lightbulb - never replaced during our stay (though we didn't bring it to anyone's attention either). I do think the rooms on the third floor and first floor are more modern. If I came again I'd try first to get a room at La Cantarana their sister hotel -which is a bit more money - but might have slightly nicer rooms - but I'd happily stay here again even with the room's imperfections.
The path to the beach is beautiful - I loved the beach - great for surfers - so much room to spread out and lovely waves for those who like small waves (me!) and even for beginners if the swell is smaller (2-3 feet). I love to surf uncrowded breaks. The rate of the hotel is very competitive and even a bargain for the area. They clean the rooms everyday - which is quite rare these days at small hotels. The AC works well for the hot midday period. Palm Beach Estates is such a lovely place to stay - easily walkable to 4 restaurants and a short drive to the Playa Grande main strip with more restaurants - including my favorite, the incredible Casa Inti (only open for lunch!). I loved the mix of Costa Rican families, Europeans and Americans at the hotel and people watching around the pool - there was slow and pleasant feeling to place - a wonderful little hideaway.

United KingdomSome facilities could do with updating (water pressure could be stronger and there could be more utensils in the communal kitchen) but that is being really picky! it is great.
The staff (especially Andrea) were amazing - so helpful and friendly. The location was great for a longer stay - close to Tamarindo, and easy to get to it, but much quieter.

CanadaVery minor things: weird smell coming from the washroom/drains for a couple days, had to keep the bathroom door closed or else the whole room smelled, very hard/complicated to get fresh fruits and vegetables/groceries if you do not have a car, basketball court there but the balls were deflated and no pump, ping pong table available but no raquets/balls (you have to bring your own).
Everything in general was great! Staff, facilities, very clean, comfortable beds, amazing quick access to the beach. Beautiful place, would definitely go back next time in Playa Grande!

United KingdomWe were put in a family room with no storage originally but we asked to move to a double room which they changed after the first night which had much more space for us. Would have been good to have a minibar in the room or a fridge with some cold drinks for guests at reception.
Bed was comfortable, right next to the beach, nice pool area. Staff were helpful with booking taxis.

BelgiumThe check-in hours. We could not take the room before 3pm (normally 4 pm) even though the room was ready. The girl in the reception said she would text me on WhatsApp when the room would be ready but did not. The breakfast is not included in the rate. I discussed by messages with the hotel to book a nesting turtle tour. When we arrived, they said it was already complete so we could not go. After insisting to find another one. The girl at the reception called some people and find us one but we realised the evening when we met the tour guy that she took a big commission for herself (40%!). We have been really disappointed by the service.
Nice bedroom, nice location, nice facilities.

United StatesThe plumbing was a little sub standard - i.e. the inodoro was very weak so the TP had to go in a little garbage can. Also - there was construction going on right next door - which is not the fault of the hotel, but listening to saws and hammers when you are laying by the pool isn't the best. It seems like the whole country is under construction....
The staff was outstanding, especially steph at the front desk. They reserved several taxi's and a golf reservation for us and everything went smoothly. The AC unit worked very well, and the included (pre-paid) breakfast at the Cantarana was well above average.

CyprusThe room was tired and needs painting. It wasnt very clean. There was an actual ants nest in the coffee machine ! When we tried to use it big black ants poured out of it all over the kitchen . My husband spent 20 mins cleaning the machine ! Building work going on all around us. We recieved emails prior to our stay stating the pool might not be open due renovation work . We were advised of this the day after we could of cancelled. We were offered the use of a sister hotels pool 4 mins walk away ,but we didnt think this was ok. . In the end the pool was available but building work continued around us. Ceiling fan was broken in the room ,and it was just a disappointment all round.

CanadaUncomfortable bed pillows bedding…uncomfortable sitting area…bad smell in bathroom…unfiltered pool…and to make matters worse full on construction took place on day two of our stay. My daughter and I could not stay with endless jack hammering etc… water was turned off. It wasn’t easy trying to find another place to stay not to mention cost involved. In our haste to leave we left our iPad…within just a couple of hours leaving we contacted hotel El Manglar to retrieve iPad and were told that iPad was not in room and was not returned to office by cleaning staff or management. This added to our distress to say the least. Still waiting for refund…not a happy time. We had planned this trip for months and were sadly disappointed with entire experience.

United StatesIt needed more hooks to hang items…especially in the bathroom. But it would be nice to have them in the main room as well. It would really be nice to be able to turn off the lights from the bed/s. It’s not fun when you’ve been reading and you’re getting sleepy and you have to get out of bed and walk over to the light and sort of wake up again…yuk! Multiple usb boxes attached in convenient locations. (Not just an electrical socket). As on a small bedside table for example. Thanks for asking!
