All of the 4 members of staff we dealt with were noticeably unfriendly compared with those at all 6 other hotels we stayed at whilst in Costa Rica. Whilst the room and facilities were adequate, we'd stayed in much cheaper places elsewhere that were much nicer. The breakfast choice was also poor.

The front desk staff was extremely helpful with answering questions, booking tours and providing general information. All staff spoke perfect English, and went beyond their regular duties to help us out.

It seemed like the hotel was stringing out the maintenance budget as tightly as possible, while still allowing the facility to run. The pool was downright gross, and I am generally a camping/roughing-it traveler. There were general maintenance issues, like the toilet seat pivoting and the like, but I expected minor issues like that for the price. The breakfast was nice to have but the food was mediocre at best. The restaurant, beyond breakfast, was really not so good and overpriced. The staff seemed to be doing their best, but when we arrived I was told we had no reservation (I had a confirmation number) and that we were at the wrong hotel. It took a bit but we sorted it out. They then said they gave us an upgrade, which once we got in the room, turned out to be the room in the pictures which I had reserved to begin with. It all worked out, but it seemed a bit disorganized and was a bit unsettling since we were traveling with our kids.

The location was outstanding. It is very close to Manuel Antonio Park, close to the beach, and really in the heart of the tourist area. The room was very clean and nice looking, with a contemporary aesthetic. We were in what looked to be the newly built portion of the motel. The AC worked well. The balcony was a great place to hang out! There were tons of animals around and on the property, which was wonderful. The staff was helpful when asked. Sitting in the open restaurant watching the monsoon come down was magical!

There was a constant smell of sewer outside of our room and on a very rainy night the septic tank overflowed and sewage nearly came into our room.

But what I rate as very bad is that right after our arrival we discovered probably the biggest cockroach we have ever seen in our life in the bathroom. The receptionist did help us, but he responded by saying that we are in the tropics and that is normal. The waiter who served at breakfast was really very, very unpleasant and he showed it to everyone. For the fact that it was one of the most expensive accommodations we had in Costa Rica and for the price-quality ratio it was a disaster. You could only choose from 3 types of breakfast and if you don't eat eggs like me, no one is talking to you. This has not happened to me elsewhere in Costa Rica. For that price, the accommodation should be better. benefits from that location.

The receptionist was absolutely brilliant and I would have given him a 10. We arrived to find it fully booked for the next day to Manuel Antonio National Park. But the receptionist got us a guide and entrance, so we got into the park. Otherwise we would have been unlucky, we were only here for 3 days and the following days the park was closed. So a big thank you to him for that. At the same time, he helped us kill a cockroach in the bathroom. Another plus is the location.
