Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):

We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

United StatesBugs are a fact of life in the tropical jungle, but a local house like this without AC will get you even closer than you may be used to. Get comfortable with that and you'll have an amazing time here.
You are staying with Nayu to stay with a local and experience Fortuna from a less touristy perspective, not at a resort. Other rooms in the house may be occupied with short or long term travelers looking for the same thing. Nayu is a hardworking mother, hotel manager, and Fortuna local opening up her home to outsiders. There is a shared bathroom and separate shared shower, and the home is often active with Nayu's family, friends, and other guests. As a solo guest here I immediately felt welcomed into this world and was genuinely humbled by the hospitality. Nayu is passionate about her guests experiencing all Fortuna/Arenal has to offer and she can recommend and help book experiences, or even discuss local politics on the porch. My experience here was enlightening and I would highly recommend spending time here if discovering local culture is just as important to you as ziplining. You can walk downtown in less than 10 minutes, the neighborhood is safe.

Nayu is an amazing person, wonderful host and incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about all the tours and attractions in and around La Fortuna. I feel so lucky to have found this place. Staying with Nayu you feel so welcome and can ask any questions about La Fortuna - she knows everything! Nayu also knows personally many of the tours and guides in the area and can help you have the best experience. Her place is lovely, homely, clean and comfortable. You can do your washing and cook there if you like. Nayu and I sometimes shared meals together which was so lovely. We became real friends and I extended my stay. Travelling solo this was a great opportunity to spend time with a beautiful tico family. The house is in a peaceful neighbourhood called Barrio Pilo. It's close to a supermarket and about 10-15 minute walk from town. I much preferred the location out of town away from the hustle of central town. Thank you for everything, Nayu and Arrón! Love you guys! 💕

I really enjoyed my stay with Nayu, although I booked it very last minute she was incredibly accomodating and really made me feel at home in her lovely house. I slept really well - comfortable bed and very quiet. Thank you!
