Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesNothing sticks out.
The pool and garden are beautiful. Got to see many beautiful birds sitting out by the pool early in the morning including a group of Aracari. The restaurant and grounds staff were very friendly and accommodating.

GermanyNo storage space in the room. Receptionists were polite but could only recommend standard tours, many that wouldn't work for our small children
Lovely hotel grounds, with lots of plants and flowers. Staff at restaurant and garden/pool were great. Wonderful breakfast and dinner. Comfortable room with fridge and air con. Kids loved the pool.

GermanyThe breakfast consisted of only 3 dishes and the portions were pretty small. We would have wished for some vegetables on the side for sure, not just eggs and bread.
Well maintained and lush garden with hot tub. The location was close from El Salto.

NetherlandsThe prices of the dinner menu are quite high compared to the quality of the food.
A nice place to stay not too far from the center of La Fortuna. If you are looking for a hotel outside the busy city center this is the place to be. The rooms are basic but good and clean. The breakfast is okay but not very special. The staff is friendly and helpful.

IrelandOnly gripe was that the room was a little small and didn't have much storage, although there were 4 of us, (2 adults and two teenagers) in the one room.

United StatesOur bedroom #32 if I remember correctly had no closet. There were a few pegs on the wall for hanging jackets, but no facilities for hanging clothes. Perhaps a garment rack could be added! Also no phone in the room to call the front desk. Understand you can text, but in case of emergency and after hours there should be access to a local phone.
Breakfast was great as were the wait staff! Always super friendly and attentive. Location of restaurant was beautiful. Grounds of the hotel gorgeous!

United StatesWe stayed in the 2 bedroom with a full and bunk beds with a family of 6, ages ranging 2-11. Everything was great except for the full bed. Extremely hard.
Property grounds were beautiful and the pools were great for kids! Had a smaller kiddy pool with a waterfall and a deeper one plus 2 hot tubs off each one. Great location, just a 5 min drive into town.

United StatesNothing not to like. Everything was fantastic
My family just spent 5 nights at Hotel Las Orquideas and it was wonderful! We booked a 2 bedroom cottage because we like having a kitchen to keep food cool and prepare a meal on night we are too tired from adventuring to go out. The little house exceeded our expectations thanks to little touches like fresh towels made into awesome animal sculptures daily. We all loved the beautiful tropical property with amazing diversity of plant and wildlife. The collection of pools was fantastic and I really liked that there is one table in a pool where you can sit on a stool just above the waterline, with your legs dangling in the water, and read or knit. There is a good balance of shaded spots and areas for sunning yourself around the pool and even a changing room and bathroom down by the pools. The restaurant is lovely and open for meals and drinks in addition to breakfast time. The staff are helpful, and their English is way better than my faltering high school Spanish from decades ago, so there were no problems getting our needs met. We all really enjoy the traditional Costa Rican style breakfast. It is delicious and filling, my son also ordered the American style bacon, eggs, and toast which he reported was also delicious, and we saw other tables order pancakes which I am sure were wonderful as well. We liked the fact that we could easily walk down to the Salto swimming hole and enjoy the cool waters and high up rope swing action with a mix of locals and tourists. It is a short drive into the La Fortuna town center. I'm sure the places downtown are fine, but for our family, being a bit outside of the bustle was a nice balance of being able to get to some lovely spots for meals, the La Fortuna Waterfall, Arenal Volcano Park, whitewater rafting, and other adventures and then coming "home" to rest and relax in the pool.

CanadaThe appartment was big but the bathroom very small and not convenient (and sometimes smelly). Nowhere to hang shower and pool towels (which is an issue for a family of 4 with 8 towels to dry...) ; the table wasn't very stable and the chair were garden chairs (too low). We had a kitchen but couldn't get kitchen towels. The hotel should pay more attention to details to get the 'resort' status they wanna show.
Nice pools and jacuzzi, great for kids ; nice walking path to the pool and restaurant, with exotic trees and flowers ; free spatious parking ; right next to Arenal Mundo Adventure park ; OK breakfast ; fair price (approx. 150$/night for 4)

Costa RicaI did not like the flexibility in we arrived an hour before check in and the receptionist was very cold and basically did not try to make us feel welcome or acomodating, almost telling us to come back. We found something to do and finally returned at 6pm and no one at the reception.....the maid had to let us Into room after an almost a half hour wait. Receptionist never showed.
The grounds are very well kept and beautiful pool area. The restaurant is very cozy and staff very friendly.
