We loved Hotel Playa Negra! It is a dream location for surfers with family. The thing that made the experience the most memorable was the service from the staff. We left feeling like we were leaving behind some new family members. Pura Vida Marlon, Darwin, Mary, Sylvia, Dorian, Dustin! Love you guys!

Rooms were large and cozy, but it can get a bit challenging to manage the heat without the air conditioning (during the day - evenings were fine)

The cabins were very nice but quite hard to keep biting insects out of. Probably the place in Costa Rica I was bitten the most.

Great location for access to the beach, the pool is nice and the cocktails at happy hour were good. Check in was easy and efficient.

There are no local ATMs (45 mins away) and cannot tip on credit card for restaurant. Cash tips only and cash for extra activities too. Keep in mind. Bring more money than credit.

Location was perfectly located on beach …prime location for surfers or anyone wanting to be on the ocean. Restaurant food was delicious and service was wonderful. Authentic Costa Rican food and other classics too

Breakfast wasn't included if you'd booked with booking.com It's very rustic which is lovely but it was also pretty expensive There was no-one at checkin or checkout - just the key left for us

The location of the hotel is amazing, right on the beach. The restaurant is beautiful in a large thatched round building with open sides and dancing fairy-lights, right next to the ocean. Everything is very laid back and we saw monkeys, coatimundis and wonderful birds and bugs right on our doorstep. The waves were excellent and the on-sight surf rental place was handy - although they didn't have a great choice of boards

I have been coming here for over 20 years. A surfer's paradise and a nature lovers tranquil retreat. We stayed in the newer bungalows with a/c and large porch. The extra cost is worth it.

Cabin 10 was not clean and has mold on the walls. Everything looked old and not well tended. The bed was small and uncomfortable. The cabin has no windows so you can hear the neighbours and people walking by, plus the mosquito net as wholes. This cabin was way overpriced, 1/3 of the price an I would not have complained.

Very close to a beautiful beach. The checkin was quick and flawless, as was the checkout.

The room is not even close of what they advertise. The bed was not comfortable, they didn’t change the bedsheets ( was sand in the bed) and I found I bolt on one of the beds the next morning. The restroom was not clean and the odor of urine was really strong. I spoke with the front desk about the issue.

The hotel location was good.
