How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

I honestly dont know!
This hostel has everything you need! The dorms are spacious, the bed I found very comfi, they offer all kinds of services and the kitchen is amazing!

When we arrived at check in we were asked to pay the agreed fee plus tax. However, because we wanted to pay by card we were informed that we had to use an online payment system. No problem with that until the online system charged us 4.5 US dollars. I queried this with the staff and informed them that we had been informed by our car hire company that it was illegal to charge for using your credit card. The member of staff said they would look into it and come back to me. Having spoken to someone higher up the chain they came to our room and gave us a 5 dollar refund of that charge and apologies. I thought fellow travellers needed to know this as this may be this establishments way of trying to not pay credit card companies. Beds could do with headboards and showers were only tepid.
The location, staff, comfort of bed, and amenities were all great.

Not a complain but a recommendation, the place has enough room to host events and social activities that can help to make this place even more attractive :) but nothing bad to say about this place.
Very nice place with enough place to host a lot of people, big kitchen, big common areas, the lockers are a dream, they’re so big, each bed has its own fan which I found so good, each guest gets a box to keep our food which I’ve never seen before and really amazed me. At the reception you can get all the information you need and even a map of all La Fortuna which is great. Very good place, highly recommended.

Very friendly staff, good explanation and advices on what to do around. Never an issue to ask some random questions. Sport area there (basketball,yoga, fitness)

Bokeed one of the private rooms. It was big, the beds were comfy, there was a private toilet, small “kitchen” and air con we could dontrol ourselves (and a tv for some chill evenings). So much value for money. the shared kitchen was well equipped and there was free coffee in the morning. The staff was extremely helpful and kind.

Sometimes could smell smoke in the room from outside but maybe because it was the closest one to the entrance. Longer waiting time for bathrooms could happen.
Very friendly staff and volunteers as well as great vibe at the hostel, which I loved. Areas for working out, yoga and relaxing right next to the river. Clean, well equipped kitchen with free coffee and tea for breakfast. Quiet location within walkable distance from the city. Overall, I loved and enjoyed my stay and it was great value for money!

I wish they provided a few more of the basics in the kitchen. There is also too little room in the dorm for the bags, so it gets messy.
The staff were really nice. The hostel is located on the edge of town, in a really nice, green and quiet area. I recommend the shuttle to the hot springs.

A 5ish mins from town, nothing too bad. The bathrooms could be cleaner (although they were like a 8/10 cleanliness) and hot water would be nice, I’d say the water was neutral, a bit hard to get in but not super cold.
great staff and nice area. The staff was really nice and helpful. The overall hostel is great and would definitely stay again. Also has hammocks set up near a stream of water which was really cool.

2000s chart music playing on repeat. The scent freshener in the room was a bit strong. Both points are a matter of preference though. The gym is missing a bench.
One of the cleanest hostels I stayed at. Staff was welcoming and always willing to help. Big kitchen with all kinds of tools and private food boxes. Maybe it could use one or two additional pots. A big plus was the small gym. Great value for money.

the vibe at rio danta was great. lots of communal space and a good place to chill or to use as your takeoff point in la Fortuna. all of the staff were very friendly and helpful!

Lots of great facilities, including a large well stocked shared kitchen, a gym and yoga area. Room was comfortable and staff were very friendly and helpful.

Alex and his staff are very nice and always helpful! The rooms are basic, but offering everything you´d expect from a hostel. Staying there also ensures meeting other tourists and getting the possibility for nice talks. My only complaint: I don´t like dogs and a big one is always around...

Natalia was a super friendly host and welcomed us with a lot of tips. The room and common areas were nice and clean and the balcony on the river was a super nice spot where to chill while reading a book. Free coffee in the morning!

Some of the equipment in the kitchen could do with an upgrade
Located ten mins walk from town centre - I liked this as it's nice and quiet. Really nice social area where you can meet people easily. Rooms are spacious and there's even a nice little gym and yoga area

bathroom was a bit rusty, there was a whole on the door knob and insects were coming through

We stayed 3 nights in a private room and they didn't clean the room. Toilet paper was over.
They have a ping pong table and lots of hammocks, as well as board games. The kitchen is well refurbished.
