Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaYou had to pay for a towel dependent on which room you stayed in. No curtains for privacy in the dorms. The tours offered were very overpriced compared to other tour companies around Manuel Antonio.
I absolutely loved the layout! You feel like you are staying in a villa, each room is positioned on different levels of the stairs. 3 pools! Each with a different vibe, one for social gatherings and a volleyball net, one for a more zen pool time with the occasional monkey/iguana visit, and one that is central to the private rooms. A rooftop terrace overlooking the jungle was a unique and perfect for social spaces to get to know people. The restaurant and bar are easily accessible, delicious food and great servers! The rooms are cleaned once a day which is refreshing after long days at the beach when you are covered in sand. Selina hosted a different activity every night that was welcoming, inclusive and tons of fun for everyone who joined! The staff were very approachable and very helpful! I recommend this hostel to anyone staying in Manuel Antonio! It gives you the opportunity to branch out and meet new people every day as a solo traveller!

IrelandWiFi connection was poor in my dorm, There were no curtains on the bunk beds, Common kitchen was quite small.
It looks cool, every dorm, room is a separate building. There is a lot of greenery around. Dorms were clean, aircon was working well.

SwitzerlandThere was very loud music until 2pm so my sleep was not that good. It is a party hostel and when it rains, there is no common area exept the restaurant. The toilets were pretty gross at the end of the day. For the price I expected a bit more.
Nice property in the lush jungle.

United KingdomNo toaster in the kitchen. Could do with sharper knives. The yoga deck only has one fan now and felt too hot to do yoga and the bamboo has grown so tall which is great but no view out. The grounds are beautiful but feel the cleaning of the grounds was not as good as last year. Lots of debris in gutters and ledges were dirty. Could do with more comfortable sun beds by the second pool.
This is the second time we have stayed at Selina. Location is great. Facilities are good. Room was comfortable but our bathroom needed an overhaul. Food was tasty and fresh but quite pricey for drinks.

CanadaThe hostel location was a bit far from the park and beaches, and the walk to and from was very hilly. The staff were nice enough but seemed bothered anytime I asked for something. The pools were very warm and didn’t feel super clean. Breakfast started a bit late so I had to eat out for any tours I booked.
Private room was very comfortable, close to the pool, and away from the crowds. The food was good, just a bit overpriced. I went to El Avión across the street a lot which was open early and cheaper than the hostel food. The party was very fun and seemed to attract a lot of people. Definitely stay here if you want nightlife. ATM and supermarket are about a 10-min walk.

United Statesneeded to upgrade from a shared bathroom to a private bathroom, because I was ill and felt that I was charged an exorbitant amount of money for the upgrade due to it being last minute and I was desperate. After paying all that money, I still wasn’t given the free breakfast option. I thought that was pretty lousy.

United StatesParking was very limited and difficult to attain. Assistance from front desk staff was also very limited and difficult to attain I felt like we spent more time trying to check in then we had time to enjoy the premises. The price was outrageously high. We had a junior suite, which provided AC in the bedroom, but not in the room with the bunkbeds.
The property is beautiful. It has a Mediterranean/Caribbean vibe. The landscaping was beautiful and the natural wildlife was plentiful. I liked the location and the activities. We had a sizable front porch which was a nice bonus. And our room was clean.

United KingdomIt is on a busy road and it is a 20min walk up/down that road to get to and from the beach (you can get a regular bus for cheap however). The restaurants in the immediate area were touristy and pricy - much better variety and price down in Quepos (a 10min drive/bus ride). The mini fridge froze all our stuff but in the heat it soon defrosted!
The property was in a great location and was set into the hill / jungle so you got to see amazing wildlife right from your room. It had multiple pools, 1 with music / near the bar and 2 quieter which was nice. The wellness centre offered several classes and the trainer was great. The activities put on by the Selina were fun and social but you could also escape them if you wished. Our private room was spacious and had a decent shower.

United KingdomCompared to the Selina in La fortuna the suite although clean and spacious lacked character and doesnt IMO reflect the hotel price point.
Solo Traveller. Private Suite. Largest room I stayed in. Lovely and spacious. Double bed kitchenette, good sized bathroom, and a spare single bed. Perfect location - quiet yet busy enough area with plenty of food options (may need a taxi for some as hilly area and in the heat its hard work). The hostel has a restaurant opposite with great food and cocktails - also a fun aeroplane themed bar (slightly expensive but amazing for the sunset views). Easy walk down to the public beach (16-20mins approx - harder on the way up!) 3 pools so you can choose your vibe and there is always space (lots of gorgeous birds, monkeys and wild life around too). Probably the most social Selina I stayed at in CR and met some lovely people. All ages- families, solo travellers, couples. Completely safe and easy to navigate. Felt more like a hotel than a hostel! Would highly recommend.

AustriaI think my room was located in a bad way. The windows were towards a "hallway" so it was extremely dark in the room and the light does not make it very cosy at night. Furthermore, there was a room above it and apparently there was no soundproof system applied when building it, since I heard every step as someone would jump like crazy and I could hear also every word they were saying above. But since my neighbors were very sparely in the room an slept at a normal hour it was totally okay for me, but I can imagine that it could be much worse with the sound.
I booked a double room with a shared bathroom and got upgraded to a double room with a privat bathroom. The staff was really nice and helpful. I LOVED the whole hostel area, it was so beautiful and has a lot to offer - 3 pools, which I enjoyed since I love chilling at different places and a yoga deck (which I actually used every night to do a workout since no one else was using it). They also offer free sports classes and other activities. The restaurant has many options (and what I ate was super delicious) and the hostel is well located. I only takes a few min by bus and you are at the main beach and there are many restaurants around.

DenmarkI do think the price is a little bit too high for what you're getting but it definitely is an issue with Manuel Antonio in general and other hotels are way pricier, so it's really not that bad. Our room wasn't exactly the cleanest, there were multiple dead mosquitos on the walls (as somebody probably smashed them prior to us) and they're just still there.. the staff were moody and did not really have any use or purpose unfortunately. When checking in we got 0 introduction into how included breakfast works and had no idea we needed to get the tickets from the reception before going to the restaurant, so there was a little bit of a confusion when we came for that very breakfast the next day. You can just see the staff didn't want to be there/didn't enjoy their job which is a pity! One of the night we came up to the rooftop bar and none of the people working behind the bar said hello or smiled which I found unwelcoming. I'm afraid if you have an issue or need help with anything you're really on your own. But these things are still minor and didn't ruin our stay.
Loved our stay here! Perfect location close to everything including shops, restaurants, bus stop (that takes you to the beach in less than 5 minutes) etc. We stayed in their suite room and it was spacious, bright and had everything we needed. There was also a great outside terrace with chairs and a table and it feels like you're staying in your own house somewhere in the middle of the jungle. It was a bit outdated like other reviews mentioned too, but I thought it was just charming and appropriate. I also enjoyed the amount of stairs that other guests can be possibly unhappy about (you have to get your daily steps right), you don't need more than a very basic fitness level to tackle them really. Our room rate had breakfast included which was quite decent and filling enough. Not sure if it's because we stayed during the week or it's just a quiet season, but it wasn't noisy at all and we weren't bothered by anything. The wildlife is magical, we kept running into different animals and it was just so cool. The room is being cleaned every day and we were satisfied with the way it was done.

United KingdomThere are a lot of stairs. Our room was supposed to have a sitting / sofa area. In the photos this had cushions but in reality it was just a concrete slab which wasn't comfortable. We asked at reception for cushions and were told that the images are for 'illustrative purposes only' and they were unable to provide any. The first hotplate in our kitchenette broke, and the replacement didn't work well either - so if you're expecting to cook in your room you might have better luck in the shared kitchen.
We saw more wildlife while sitting in the pool than we did anywhere else in Costa Rica - including national parks! If you want to sunbathe and dip in the pool while watching monkeys and large lizards run past, this place is perfect. There is great wifi throughout the property - even out near the pools and in the rooms. The workspace was great, lots of desk space and was very quiet while we were there. The free yoga and evening events were also great. The room had fans and aircon.

United KingdomThe shared kitchen let the experience down a little, it seems that guests paying a little extra did not want to clean up after themselves!
This place is not cheap but it’s a step up in terms of hostels. Definitely more of a classy hotel. Perfect if you want some relaxed space to take a few days out of your travelling. Liked the atmosphere, pools, attention to detail with free yoga and welcome drinks. The quality of beds (2 pillows!), shower and toiletries provided.
