Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesGetting there by car involved some anxiety as usually you have to cross three rivers along with drive for a number of miles on a long dirt road that is rough in parts. Luckily, they told us the day of our arrival that they would pick us up before the rivers as they were too high to cross and it appears that they would do the same for others so that you and your car can get there safely.
We loved being in a remote place in nature with other liked minded folks. The guide who offered the natural history hike was also great and his enthusiasm was contagious! We saw all sorts of wildlife that we did not see elsewhere. This is a unique place that has a special air to it.

United KingdomThe chairs in our room were not comfortable
The ride along 6 miles of forest track is not for the faint hearted or anyone in a hurry. However, it is well worth while as it leads to the unique experience that is Selva Bananito. The staff were helpful, friendly and always available. The organised tours were excellent. The food was very good with a splendid dining room set in the heart of the forest. Our room (cabin) had two beds with nets, superb views and a good bathroom

United StatesLoved everything! From the exceedingly comfortable stay in the middle of the forest! Thoughtfully designed and served community style meals with candle light during the dark forest evenings to the efforts to raise awareness of environmental stewardship! Frequent check ins to make sure we are happy, complementary upgrades, sweet and knowledgeable guides to pura vida nature! Loved every moment of our stay and look forward to many more!

United StatesA beautiful location with a lot of options for activities and great staff. I recommend the all-inclusive package, that comes with three meals a day (all excellent, home-cooked meals) and a number of prepaid activities like horseback riding, bird watching, and tree climbing (the three we did). We also got to meet and know several others staying during the meals, and even bumped into a few of them later on our travels in Costa Rica. And Selva Bananito shouldn't be mentioned without their strides in the conservation and regeneration of nature. They're worth supporting just for their continuing efforts to protect and preserve the richness of Costa Rica's ecology into the future. The fantastic stay was a bonus.

GermanyIf you want to feel nature and generate a real jungle experience, Selva Bananito Lodge is an impressive place to stay.. You learn how the protection of wilderness and wildlife works and it creates an unbelievable feeling that there are substantial positive and successful projects that embrace ecotourism and nature protection. The Bananito Lodge Team is super smart, very helpful in explaining the wilderness, great people. You are very close to nature.

AustriaTruly a special place and an experience to remember. The way to the lodge was no problem with our car at all. Fernando our guide for the next two days was extremely friendly (and funny), the food which was served together with the other guests was very good and our 4 hour hiking tour through the primary forest also something we will remember for always. Perfect for our last two days in Costa Rica, ending our vacation in a quiet environment surrounded by nature. The owner Jürgen explained us a lot about the land and we can just congratulate the family on what they have accomplished and their mission to care for the area and its animals.

SwitzerlandTours quiet expensive for what you get
All in all a very special lodge in a special location with friendly and motivated staff trying to explain and show the alternative way of leading a lodge in the rainforest. Very comfortable rooms (with partially open windows-you will be in the midth of the nature and wake up by the sound of the birds and animals in the morning), good food (with limited choice) and even warm water !

GermanyThe concept of the lodge and reserve combining tourism, education, sustainability, nature conservation and regeneration on a finca that was once destinated to deforestation is very promissing. It is a great place to stay for a couple of days of more and experience the jungle and sustainable farming. Very comfortable cabins and delicous meals are provided and there are plenty of things to do and see. The whole team is very friendly and helpful. We will put this lodge on our schedule for a longer stay for our next visit to CR.

CanadaThe staff was exceptional. Jurgen is a real eco enthusiast and loved to tell us all about the objectives and achievements of the lodge. He introduced his family for a chat and they joined us for meals. When he heard that it was my birthday (75) he insisted on taking me on a flight in his auto gyro over the jungle and supplying a cake for the occasion. The bed and room were very comfortable and clean.

GermanyDue to staff shortages, we had some problems during our stay, so these might have been resolved already: - noone at the reception when we arrived - no information about tours and prices - quite pricey dinner with no alternative (one starter+main+dessert per night, no other restaurants around) - until the very end we did not 100% understand which activities are supported by our room rates which are a little pricey but are supposed to be used for the project
- beautiful remote lodge, far away from civilization in the middle of the jungle (therefore very basic accomodations) - really nice hike around the lodge with our guide Allan (highlight of our stay!) - honorable project for maintaining the rainforest
