How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Overall, our stay at the hotel was good, but not great. The lack of a TV in the room was a bit disappointing, and the noise from the busy street outside made it difficult to relax at times. However, the host went above and beyond to ensure our comfort, and their courteousness was greatly appreciated. However, the absence of a safe in the room for storing valuables was a downside.
One positive aspect was the sense of security provided by the gated entrance, which contributed to a feeling of safety throughout our stay. The shared kitchen facilities were clean and well-equipped, allowing us to prepare coffee and cook meals as needed. The room itself was spacious, with three beds meant for more people than just my wife and me. Despite this, the sheets were clean and the bed was comfortable. Check-in was a breeze, and the manager patiently waited for our late arrival until 11 pm, which we were grateful for. Additionally, the check-out process was simple - all we had to do was leave the keys.

Maybe a little fridge in the room would be helpful..but is just a little thing..all the rest was really fine!
It was very good for my two nights in la fortuna! Right in the centre of the town, clean and comfy bed! The lady at the reception (can t remember the name) was super nice, friendly and helpful!

Nothing negative to say. It was good value for the money. We enjoyed the guesthouse atmosphere
No breakfast the location was central so one could expect some noise. The owners were helpful . Kitchen facilities were adequate. Air conditioning was a bonus.

Room #2 next to the main road is really noisy. Road traffic noise is unbearable.
Walking distance to everything. Good WiFi, reasonable good kitchen.

The pillows need to be replaced. They are super flat and lumpy
Marvin is the best!! I caught a cold at the beginning of my trip and he made a tonic to relieve my cough. He also made good recommendations for where to eat. The place is in a great location, has ample common space and is very clean

On very noisy road. No bedside lights - only single bright room light.
Air conditioning. Very light with lots of windows. Excellent location, near restaurateurs and supermarkets. Use of kitchen with fridge and microwave. Alvin let us check in early. Well furnished. Fans included. Lots of tourist information provided. Lots of electrical sockets, including some near bed.

Our room had a window, which was very close to the kitchen of a restaurant, which means that till midnight it was very noisy. Almost no hangers in the room

Air conditioning didn't work and it was quite noisy during the night. Couldn't get any hot water even though we are well versed in the shower systems in Costa Rica

There is a serious noise problem in room 3 as it is adjacent to a restaurant kitchen where they play music until late at night so no sleep until then.

Kitchen only had one plate to cook on.
The location was very central, you could easily walk to the center to go to a restaurant. Marvin was very friendly and helped us with getting a bus-boat-bus to Monteverde. Our room was cleaned everyday.

Was a little noisy as our room was directly above a restaurant kitchen so take earplugs.
Perfect location, good kitchen facilities. Owner lent us his binoculars.
