Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyThe kitchen you use is the one of the owners family. So you cook literally in their living room.
We stayed in tents but with real beds so quite comfortable. The view over the lake and vulcano is beautiful but the road to the location is very steep and rocky. Maybe not manageble at rain with 2WD. Walking is then 5min by foot.

Costa RicaI liked the hosts. I liked the tent with the bed inside. I loved the view.
It is the most beautiful location. The breakfast is great; very tasty. The accommodations are exactly as described; well appointed camping style.

United StatesThe driveway to the house was steep, dirt and long which was difficult on a motorcycle fully loaded and 2 up. The host sent pictures of where to park if your vehicle isn't a 4x4. Unfortunately, I read the informationa after we rode to the top. The next day we parked below and walked up.
The tent and bed were comfortable with a canopy structure over the top to create shade and keep the tent dry. The view was amazing with a fresh breeze and sunlight both days, which was unusual for the area. The breakfast was simple and delicious with rice and beans, scrambled eggs, grilled plantain/banana, fresh orange juice and coffeee. The host didn't speak English but spoke slowly enough for us to understand, and he was very kind. There was a restaurant at the crossroads Mesa de Mama that was a 20 minute walk, and a pizza place that had delicious pizza a 10 minute walk, which was next to a small convenient store where we bought beer and snacks. This was our favorite place to stay for the week.

United KingdomIf you don’t have 4x4 (which we didn’t), you have to leave your car under the hill. The hill is pretty steep and it takes around 7 mins to walk up there. If you have trouble with walking, be mindful of that.
The view was absolutely amazing and the host was super nice and chatty (we don’t really speak Spanish but still). We stayed there for breakfast, and if you are staying there you MUST try the breakfast. It was outstanding. The bathroom was clean and kitchen well equipped. It’s a small camp so it feels very private.

United KingdomThis is an amazing way to see el castillo and have one of the best views of arenal! Run by a Costa Rican man who is absolutely lovely and makes an amazing breakfast. We were upgraded rooms when we arrived for no extra cost which was a great surprise! Raw, real and beautiful costa rica!

CanadaParking at the location was a bit difficult, wouldn't be able to make it up the hill after a heavy downpour but they do have parking available at the bottom of the hill as well if you don't mind a bit of a hike.
Beautiful view, great price. There is wifi and power available as well which was a nice bonus as it wasn't mentioned in their listing. Owner was very friendly!

GermanyA very nice older man welcomed us and prepared an excellent typical breakfast in the morning. The camp site is quite with a fantastic view of volcano and lake. Many birds can be observed in the morning. Steep last meters to reach the camp ground.

I have only positive things to say about this place. First, it was very cheap so we didn’t expect such comfort. We were in a tent but it was more comfortable than most rooms I have been in. I loved that we could hear the birds and other animals at night and in the morning. The view to the volcano is amazing, you just can wake up, open the tent and see it! Finally, the host family is extremely kind and helpful. Breakfast was amazing. Very good value for money.

United StatesThe final stretch of the road up to the property coming from La Fortuna is steep and can get muddy, make sure you have a vehicle with descent clearance and ideally 4WD (we had a rear wheel drive SUV and made it up just fine, though!)
The host was very kind and made our stay excellent. He made breakfast for us each day and it was delicious and very filling. The property was unique with a beautiful view; we stayed in one of the huts and it was very spacious. If you’re an outdoorsy person, this is a great spot at an excellent price.

United KingdomFabulous location. Sadly no volcano view as the weather was bad, but still an amazing place. There are walks from the site that will entertain you with wildlife! We saw a massive green iguana and lots of birds. We spoke and managed on google translate which was perfect - we dont speak spanish. The breakfast was yum and plentiful. Stayed only one night as we moved on. This place isnt for hard to please people as it is basic. We loved it! The rain was loud on tin roof of cabin, so earplugs is a good idea. The drive up needs a 4x4 or a very confident driver. We had a Geely x3, 2wd and we managed. Muchas gracias

CroatiaPersonally I didn’t have any problems, but I recommend renting a car when coming here, because buses are not driving very often so you might end up taking an Uber from La Fortuna if you don’t catch the bus. The place didn’t have hot water in the shower which for me was not a problem, but for some people might be.
Absolute amazing view from the property, it was worth every cent staying here. The hosts were very friendly and the son of the host even drove me to La Fortuna and gave me a lot of tips. I stayed in a cool little cabin with a fan and had a nice view from my bed. Breakfast was very good, nice portion and juice. They also have cute cats and dogs

ItalyIngrid and her husband are awesome. they were extremely helpful and welcoming. They prepared the best breakfasts we had in Costa Rica and we really enjoyed the calmness of the location, watching sunset on the Arenal vulcano. The room is basic but it has it's charme and you can't find a cheaper place where to stay! Best quality-price ration we found in Costa Rica!
