We loved everything about Swell Pavones. We had a wonderful 10 days there with little kids. Great location, I loved the groove and laid back athmosphere. Great equipped shared kitchen.

We choose a room without AC, so it was incredibly hot and humid. It was our first stop in Costa Rica, so we didn't realize the degree to how hot it actually gets (we were there in March). Pick AC option if you can afford it.

We had an awesome stay! Location was perfect, quick walk to the surf. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, was an extremely good vibe. Two of our nights they even cooked up family dinners for everyone, and had a campfire going. Additionally, I left my watch in the room by mistake, and they even took the liberty to coordinate mailing it back to me. We can't wait to go back to Pavones, and would stay at Hotel Swell again, for sure!

My room like many in the surf hostels in town did not have air conditioning.

The location was amazing, walking distance from the wave and everything in town. The staff are amazing! They were extremely hospitable and welcoming and I felt they treated me and the other guests as family. I would definitely come back to stay at Hotel Swell Pavones.

Amazing place in amazing Pavones. Owner prepared for us best pasta ever. We had a great time here! We had room nr.1 it was private and calm place. Near was tree with a lot of Ara.

This was an amazing stay! We are two surfers and loved the stay here. The room and location are very nice, but for us the staff and owner are the real selling points. They were very welcoming and accommodating. The owner made tuna for us twice and fixed our flat tire without expecting anything in return. We had a great time here!

hotel swell is in a great location right in the center of town and just a short walk to the beach, the surf break and the river. the rooms are simple with no frills but for the price it was good. however the owner Walter and manager Ruben went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable. Walter had us for dinner and made a delicious fresh seafood pasta and Ruben was extremely friendly and helpful during our stay. I recommend hotel swell!

This place is certainly one of the best bets in Pavones. Staff is extremely friendly and helpfull. The owner maintains the hostel constantly and very passionate. The place is located in the center of Pavones, if this really exists in this tranquil beach village. We stayed with two kids and everyone was super nice to the kids and they felt at home on the first day. We'd definitely come back any time.

The one room was very smelly and moldy, but managed to change rooms after a while. When the hotel is fully booked, it gets a bit crowded, hard to find anywhere to relax when you don’t have your own patio. I missed having some were to do yoga.

Good location if you’re there for surf! The staff is great and makes you feel very welcome, attracts good people who tend to stay longer.

The property is beautiful, well located and very comfortable, but definitely the Best are its owner Walter and the helper, Mari, they live the Pura Vida Vibe and go above and beyond to help you make the most out of your trip. This hostel is the best of Pavones!!!

Would have liked to have known that there was a room with air conditioning available in the same hotel during check-in so I could have had the option to upgrade. Nobody mentioned it and I assumed that it was not an option.

Fantastic communal outdoor kitchen furnished with all the necessities that you might not have brought on vacation. Very accommodating staff. Very competitive room rates.

There was no toilet paper in the room. I’m sure this was an oversight. There is no hot water, and the shower is more like a tap pouring on your head. Luckily the tap water is not cold like in Canada. The room was very musty, maybe even somewhat mouldy. This part is not a criticism of the hotel or location, just a warning that during the rainy season the road gets very rough and a truck 🛻 or SUV 🚙 with a good suspension is recommended. A car might make it but it may sustain some damage.

If you like to surf 🏄‍♀️ the brake here is amazing! And Walter went above the call of duty and even invited me to dinner. If you like a place that is off the beaten trail and want to get away from it all this is the place!

The staff was incredible. For a budget hotel I was actually super comfortable. Locations was PERFECT, rooms where clean, and it was an upgraded hostile like atmosphere. Am definitely staying again since they location was ideal and they allowed my little doggie! Very comfortable low maintenance place!

This place had a very communal vibe. I think the owner and the manager drive that forward. The communal kitchen is where everyone congregates. Was a huge communal fish dinner. Everyone brings something. I was new, I brought beer. Also brought everyone ice cream the next day. I am a new surfer and the other guests helped me figure out the best surfing times and location (an easier spot, still in the main surf zone). I came alone, wanted to meet friends, and did just that. Very, very close to the main surf area. I highly recommend this place.

the place is amazingly located just 1-2 min from a surf spot and close to everything. It has a family atmosphere and everybody is very chill and kind. Rooms are cute. Best place to stay in Pavones.
