Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsOverall we really liked it. It was a bit crowded over the weekend so we didn’t find a place at the pool but other days it was no problem.
Very good location, comfortable and clean room, how the hotel was decorated and the fact it was very green. the swimming pool is very nice and you can observe monkeys every day passing by and jumping on the roofs and trees in the hotel. There is also a happy hour from 16 until 18 and cocktails are served at the swimming pool.

United StatesOur room balcony faced the street which allowed us to view people walking by at a distance. Unfortunately, some of the beach vendors vehicles would also use this avenue to transport their goods and equipment in the morning and evening and several had broken mufflers which would create quite a racket in their comings and goings. Wifi was spotty on the balcony, better in the room.
Breakfast is provided and includes a wide variety of choices including fresh pineapple, watermelon and papaya. Service is personalized, the food delicious. the hotel is half way between the national park and downtown area, both walking distance but far enough away from the hustle and bustle. The beach is adjacent to the downtown.

United KingdomWe really enjoyed our stay!
The location is 200m from Manuel Antonia National Park, which you can walk in circa 5 minutes, so an ideal location. The hotel has parking and all the staff are most welcoming, the reception team are excellent with local knowledge of restaurants etc. It’s a 400m walk to the public beach and the restaurants, if you don’t want to drive, there is also an excellent restaurant next door as well. Breakfast was good and the hotel has a pool and lounge area, with pool bar. Would recommend…..

United StatesThere were some gaps around windows and almost a 1/2” gap around the large patio sliding door that let in some bugs. To be fair, bugs are expected and aplenty in the jungle, so this did not take away from our experience.
La Vela is a nice hotel in a fantastic location walking distance to the beach and Manuel Antonio National Park. I wouldn’t consider it a “luxury” hotel, but it’s very comfortable with an awesome bartender by the pool to indulge in some cocktails. The staff were friendly, helpful, and made the experience very enjoyable!

United StatesPool was kind of small, we didn't use it since there were mostly kids swimming in it.
The location was awesome! It was walking distance from Manuel Antonio park and the beach. There are also a few different nearby restaurants that are walking distance and tasty, including a couple with happy hours where you can sit and enjoy the view of the beach. The breakfast was great, good options to choose from for the main course including omelets, gallo pinto (traditional rice/beans/plantain Costa Rican breakfast,) pancakes, and there were several pastries, fruits, yogurts, juices to choose from also, coffee included. The hotel room was clean and cute enough, water got hot, wifi was good. We also appreciated them accommodating our early check-in and giving us a free room upgrade.

United KingdomThe hotel was very good. Regrettably the immediate nature of the road to the front makes it less attractive. However, it is really close to the Antonio Manuel wildlife park and this is a real bonus as well as the main public beach which is really well looked after by the local volunteer beach combers
Breakfast was good with fresh fruit, bread and cereals together with any cooked item we might want. The location is squeezed into an unlikely corner and is rather a surprise once you pass through the reception area. The pool is a welcome addition albeit a little on the small size, but with the surrounding planed area it creates a good central point to this small hotel.
