Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThere was little or no hot water. Hot water in the shower lasted 30 seconds. The hotel could use a daily shuttle service to Santa Elena, otherwise taxi service costs about $45 a day back and forth.
The meals were excellent.

CanadaIt was very cold at night. The room needs a heater or warmer duvet. The road from town to the lodge was very bumpy. But most of the roads in Costa Rica are.
Best view of the Arenal Volcano. We stayed 3 nights, but 2 would be enough. We visited ecological reserve and Selvatura Park. The host served delicious breakfasts. We also ate dinners at the lodge. It was a very tasty local food with great presentation. The host, Eulogio, recommended a hike to the falls on the property, and we followed his advice. It took us about 1 hour to complete the hike and see the falls.

Costa RicaBreakfast was excellent! Especially the banana pancakes! WOW! Location was pretty far out of town, maybe 15 minutes or so. Grounds looked pretty but it was cold while we were there so we did not explore the farm.

GermanyTips: we drove there from La Fortuna in a car and managed it well (though super slowly) but if you’re driving in the rainy season half of the way will probably require an SUV and even a 4x4. In the dry season a car worked for us. Try the banana pancake, it’s delicious for breakfast.
The staff is super nice and the food delicious. The view is really nice and we dis have a really peaceful stay, we really enjoyed it, it is worth the extra drive from downtown.

United StatesBreakfast was made to order several choices each morning. The staff bent over backwards to accommodate us when we arrived after restaurant was closed. They made us full meals for a family of 4 and was much appreciated. The only thing is I would recommend going in daylight as the roads in this area are difficult in the dark. Perhaps consider 4x4, or at least not a low car.

Costa RicaThe views are amazing. I stayed in #16, the end unit. I woke up to the sunrise over the mountains and a view of Volcano Arenal. The grounds were full of beautifully, bright colored flowers. I took the time to hike their private trail to the waterfall and was rewarded by hummingbirds and other birds. I would definitely recommend this place.

United StatesWeather made power outages and we were cold and damp, even inside rooms, which made for a difficult stay. Lack of hot water sealed the deal for our inability to give Vista Verde Lodge, the highest rating.
Staff was amazing and value for money was good.

CanadaDriving to Montverde is a bit challenging, the roads are not the best and that applied to this lodge as well. It's a rocky road and you can all arrive there by car.
The location was amazing. The lodge was on a private cloud forest with waterfall at the end and it is worth walking there for an hour (you need good shoes for this walk) it is not super easy but it is worth it. Also, if the weather is good you can see the volcano and the lake. it is also very close to the activities around The staff is so friendly; Eulogio is the manager there since 28 years and he so nice, talking to him about Montverde and the lodge was so interesting We order dinner and the food was so good with good price.

MaltaThere is only one proper negative about the place, and that's the road to get there. Honestly I do not recommend driving, the roads in Monteverde are already not great, but the road to reach this place is particularly bad. We drove our rental and had to drive very slowly for about 5 kilometres. It's of no fault of the accommodation but I think any visitor should be made aware of this prior to booking! Be aware the roads to Drake Bay are the only ones worse than Monteverde.
Best coffee of our entire trip The staff were very friendly Great breakfast Fantastic views - we could see some wildlife from our room! There's a cool trail leading down to a waterfall, we recommend a moderate level of fitness for the way back up! There was a dog named Rocky who greeted us when we arrived and spent some time with us every day, he's so friendly! - I miss him! He was the best boy!! We also had a cat visit our room every evening for cuddles! No idea where he came from, but he was very welcome.

PolandLocation is far from the main town, so it is not easy to go out for dinner or other attractions unless you have a car - preferably 4WD.
A unique location in the cloud. Nice area with a view on clould forest (though visibility may be low when cloud gets particularly thick). Nice home-cooked dinner and breakfast, very helpful and friendly owner.

CanadaThis place was amazing. Beautiful location and very kind family. The drive was not bad at all. Many people commented about the road to their location being unsafe or not easy, but all the roads in the area are rough. And the driveway leading to their property is paved. I would highly recommend this place!

SwitzerlandThe drive to the hotel is quite challenging, especially at night when its dark. Highly suggested to have 4wheel drive when you plan to drive yourself.
The hotel is family owned, the people are very friendly and welcoming, they still made us dinner when we arrived late. The view must be stunning, but unfortunately also the next morning, clouds covered the area.

United StatesIt's not so much what I didn't like as much as what I didn't know. My husband and I didn't realize how cool this area can be. I wish I had brought more pants and sweaters. Nevertheless, it's soooo worth it. The flora and fauna will truly blow you away!
If you're interested in hiking through the Cloud Forest and you don't mind staying at a local, rustic lodge, then this is the place for you. Located in the Cloud Forest of Monteverde, this lodge brings you closer to the culture of the area. If you're looking for a US-style hotel, this is not it! If you're looking for a chance to get to know the people of the area and their culture, come to the Vista Verde Lodge. It's a real adventure but soooo worth it. The staff is so friendly and authentic; the meals are fresh and local. No continental-style breakfast but true "pura vida" nourishment. You eat like the locals and Mario is an amazing chef! The owner is a wonderful man with such a sweet spirit! They'll do their best to allow you to take full advantage of the area!

United StatesDon’t book if you don’t have a car, long difficult road from town, apparently expensive if taking taxi. Rather lots of of bugs, but it is right in the jungle with the best view of lake and volcano possible.
outstanding view, wonderful staff, great food, comfortable beds! once you are there within two kilometers all the activities you will need are available and the food at the Lodge is great and very reasonable priced.
