Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsUnfortunately people “reserve” beds and cabanas putting their towels down. I feel the hotel staff should remind this to the guests at the checkin or when you get the beach towels as its not allowed. The bathroom of the apartment had a bad smell coming through the shower drain at times. Kitchen supplies such as plates, pans and pots are really limited they should definitely provide more.
Location is perfect close to shops, a pharmacy and town. You have amazing restaurants just walking distance. Breakfast is really good. The two private beaches, the beautiful gardens and colonial architecture really make the place magical. The giftshop is great, they have lot of amazing things and its much better there than the ones at Mambo beach. Their babysitter is amazing, just wonderful and kind. We’ll go back to Avila Beach Hotel, we are in love.

United StatesIt was difficult to book an appropriate room for us ahead of time. Although we emailed and called explaining that we were a father/daughter traveling, my father's age, and our needs there was no help in figuring out what room would be most appropriate. We were told we could not guarantee two beds (not everyone is a couple!) and I had no idea that two queens even existed until my father's accident (falling out of bed) happened. Also in the twin room bed the bathroom has that glass door that lacks adequate privacy which is also an issue for non-couples. It turned out we were able to change to an ideal room (two queens, bathroom with privacy, grounds level) and I am so thankful for the staff accommodating us. It would be great to be able to select an appropriate room ahead of time.
Gorgeous facilities. The beach (and snorkeling) is wonderful and the pool immaculate. Loved the restaurants and live music. Appreciate the lengthy breakfast window (goes to 11) and although ours was not included in our booking it was well worth it as the selection was great and it kept us energized for the day. Great to have outside dinning facilities close by as well for variety with a number of wonderful high quality restaurants in walking distance. Easy parking and access to town. The staff was very accommodating. When my father fell out of the twin bed they were very kind in checking in on him and accommodating in upgrading our room to a better/safer bed. The hotel had everything we needed and wanted, it was sometimes hard to motivate to go explore the rest of the island because the hotel and its facilities are so great! Definitely hope to visit again!

NetherlandsWe booked the Blues-wing purposely because it is adults only. Unfortunately it is next to the pool where kids are playing very often, which you will hear every (early) morning. Also the beach right next to the rooms are often full of kids. Not something you would expect when booking "adults only". Secondly the food variety at breakfast is quite good, however there is no diversity, no changes or no special things. Quality is good, however overall not worth it for 20 USD/person/day.
Absolutely beautiful hotel! Everything at the hotel looks really nice, is very well kept and nicely decorated. The staff is very friendly and helpful, providing support to anything you need. Breakfast is high quality, with a nice cooke making any egg-dish you like. There are two beaches, not too big, but also not very crowded. The restaurant on the pier in the middle of the two beaches (Blues) is very nice as well. We stayed at the Blues-wing (adults only), which was extremely nice. A large room, very comfortable bed, beautiful view and a nice balcony overviewing the beach, and a nice sunrise and sunset every day. Price is quite high, however it is worth it. Very recommended!

NetherlandsThe room we stayed in was a bit noisy (we faced the central open area). Although the evening noise did not bother us too much, we noted that the sounds from the neighbours were sometimes a bit bothersome (e.g. someone was on a conference call in the morning which we could hear). As the prices are not cheap I expected a bit more soundproofing.
Nice location, very nice private beach where you can swim and snorkel. Very friendly staff and enough chairs on the beach. What I like about the location is that you have a great view on the ocean (some other hotels nearby have a small beach or terrace on the water, which limits view). Food is nice and convenient, and staff is very friendly. As we left much later than check-out, we were able to use a special shower room in the evening.

United StatesThe big problem on Curacao is the lack of stable satellite and internet connections. The hotel's Wi-Fi was the only place my Verizon-based iPhone and iMac had any internet access at all. Even at the hotel, though, not all connections worked well. My remote Spectrum (cable broadband provider in US) account could not send emails. which created confusion in some business dealings. (I was there 70% vacation and 30% work).
Overall, the Avila is a unique, first-rate experience. Everything is immaculate, the rooms are sparse but comfortable and after a few days I felt very comfortable. The balcony of the room overlooks the Caribbean and the beautiful resort grounds, and I could have spent the whole week and a half hanging out on the balcony and in the hotel's two fine restaurants. I am a late riser, so I did not choose the breakfast option, but I had it twice, and I thought it was excellent. It has the usual US breakfast buffet items plus a few Dutch and Caribbean things to give it a bit of local flair. The beach is world class. The restaurant abuts the beach, and I spent a few hours a day just hanging out at the restaurant, working on my laptop and admiring the incredible view and atmosphere. The two restaurants at the hotel are good, and I could have eaten there every day. The close location to a number of fine seafood places along Penstrasse and only a 20-minute walk to Punda, Willemstad's colorful downtown shopping district, meant I could hang around there and take advantage of the stores and outdoor tourist restaurants there.

United StatesWierd things: No sockets for hairdryers close to any mirror. Only one socket 110v which is located in the bathroom, and no USB chargers at all. So it can be a problem to charge a cellphone or laptop with an American power plug. No mosquito net. It was a real problem despite the fact they treat the territory with some liquid. No iron in the room (you have to ask at the front desk.) Not a big deal, but TV is very small with poor quality of the stream.
The beach is great, but sometimes it's difficult to find the spot (January.) The food is pretty delicious. Live music in the evenings! Willemstad is amazing and romantic.
