Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesTV's have no live TV. There are Roku's connected to each TV that you can use, but I found the Roku in my room very outdated and in need of some software updates.
All meals at property were affordable and very well prepared. All staff and facilities were amazing. I rented a car and parking on-site was easy. Good location away from the main city center but still accessible easily by car. I had a private room and it was very clean and comfortable. A/C in room and WiFi worked great.

SwitzerlandIn comparison with Jan Thiel Pietermaai, you have less space in the dorms in general and for your stuff especially. Also, checking in and out and booking more nights gets quite complicated, even if you stay longer, they don't live the "customer first" policy.
Wifi is super nice, its quite big, it has a nice pool and the restaurant is great too.

NetherlandsIt's hard to think of something I didn't like about my stay. The one thing I can think of is that it was rather far to walk to Jan Thiel beach and restaurants (20 minute walk). Normally, this wouldn't be a problem but the weather was very hot ;)
What's there to not like? I liked the colorful houses, the relaxed swimming pool, nice staff and the kitchen. A big plus was that is it very easy to rent a cheap car at the reception.

Sint MaartenThe drain in the shower smelled very strongly of septic smell. When we first entered the room the entire room smelled bad. Once we figured out where it was coming from we kept the bathroom door closed. No real window in the bathroom only plastic louvers do you can hear everything going on in other people’s bathrooms when walking in zhe outside hallway.. shower etc.. The room was on the road side and the traffic noise was very noticeable. The ladder up to the mezzanine is very steep and the bed up there is quite close to the opening. Given this is a family room I think they should look into adding a sliding barrier to close off the gap to avoid a child falling. The day we arrived they had an event at the hotel with tables all around the pool and loud music etc. We picked this hotel because it has a decent pool and we just wanted to relax for our 1 afternoon and night stop over in CUR . We were not able to spend the afternoon at the pool due to the event, the pool was open but it would have been very difficult and awkward to get in a bathingsuit and start swimming in front of all the vendors, so we ended up paying 40$ worth in taxis to go to Mambo beach and swim and relax there. We wish the hotel would have mentioned the event before arrival. If we had known we would have spent a bit more. somewhere else and been on the beach directly. Lastly, this hotel is nowhere near a beach or walking distance from one. Some of the reviews said there was a beach nearby. I asked the front desk and they said it’s a 20 min walk! When we arrived the person at the front desk was not the most forthcoming with information, we never got any information about renting any bikes or what the WiFi code was. Later that day and the next morning the other lady was more helpful.
This is a decent budget property, colorful and the family room did the job. Good for a short stay on a budget.

SwitzerlandLocated at a noisy street. The air-conditioning was loud and the 4 person room had a very steep stairs to the second bed. Too small for a family, but great for young travellers.

CanadaThe only real downside is the location. It is on a hill so biking might not be as enjoyable for most (we didn't even bother). Also, it isn't really close to much so you pretty well have to rent a car (which they have available at the hostel but book ahead!).
The pool was awesome! The layout of the hostel was very good and it was great that there was a restaurant/bar and convenience store on location. Front desk staff were always helpful. Our transfer was booked hassle-free.

NetherlandsWe booked a room with pool view, and when we arrived this room was not available. Just the 2/3rd day of our stay. We had to move to another room, that was annoying.
It was a very quiet and beautiful location. Very nearby Jan Thiel beach and restaurants/bars. The staff is very friendly. And the hammocks in front of the room just give you a real holiday feeling.

United KingdomThe internet was super strong in the restaurant area, but didn't reach the room - which was a pain when working remotely.
This hotel is very handy - you can rent bikes (for free) and their own cars directly from the reception! The staff are superb and super friendly.

NetherlandsThe staff didn't seem enthusiastic or approachable, especially for a hostel where you expect interaction between staff and guests. A few of the girls were really nice, other than that not the best impression. In my opinion, renting a bike could be made a lot easier! It's not 'free', instead of having to pay a $100 deposit I would suggest asking guests for creditcard details or to leave their passport at the reception untill return. Ow and after the first 2 days no more hot showers
The hostel is as beautiful as it looks in the pictures! Well taken care of, with cosy seats in front of the houses. Jan Thiel beach is about a 20 min walk away

ColombiaIf your hotel is a bed & BIKE, make sure the bikes are in good shape, all of them need maintenance urgently and the saddles are uncomfortable keeping in mind that people take the bikes in their beach outfits, not in professional clothing.
The rooms are perfect, great beds, good size, delicious shower. Its close to Jan Thiel, but keep in mind that if you take the bikes there’s several steep uphill parts, makes for an exercise in the morning. The staff overall is super nice and the manager Marla very helpfull.
